  5. Houston's been lonely in this thread for a few weeks. Let's add the Cubs, Padres, Orioles, Twins, Mariners and Royals to this party.
  6. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Oh, and the Colorado Rockies should have been the Denver Bears. And the Arizona Diamondbacks should have been the Phoenix Firebirds. At least we finally got the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
  7. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Good riddance to an ugly POS park with no fans. F Jeffrey Laurie too. This. It was my least favorite NL stadium. They should re-name it Perpetual Rain Delay Stadium.

  18. Metsblog says: John Franco will throw out the ceremonial first pitch to Mike Piazza during the September 11 remembrance ceremony before the Mets host the Cubs at Citi Field, the team just announced. The team says they will mark the 10th anniversary of September 11 by honoring the memory of those lost and injured, and celebrating the heroes, survivors and rescue and recovery workers before that days game. In addition, the Mets will again pay tribute to New York Citys uniformed service men and women by wearing caps representing their organizations. According to the team, they will be releasing more details of their September 11 remembrance ceremony in the coming days.
  19. Giants vs. Cubs: Carlos Beltran Hears "Boos" From Crowd The transition to San Francisco has not been an easy one for Carlos Beltran since coming over in July. He drew the ire from the Giants faithful for hitting the disabled list with an injured wrist just a few days after joining the team and he has struggled to consistently play well since returning to the field. It hit an all-time high on Wednesday night. After his fourth hitless at-bat of the night, the boo birds came out in pretty strong force at AT&T Park. Going 0-for-4 with six runners left on base is never good for any player, but Beltran has been held to a higher level of scrutiny over the last few weeks. The man who was dubbed the savior of a struggling offense has been anything but that and is now hearing it from the fans. The Giants currently trail the Cubs 5-2 in the eighth inning. A loss would be the team's third straight and would move them to six games back in the NL West.
  20. Andy Martino wrote: A center fielder who hits 12-15 homers, runs the bases well and posts a respectable on-base percentage is more acceptable than a corner outfielder who offers that production. I hate this line of thinking. A centerfielder who can play centerfield is more acceptable than a corner outfielder who cannot. Offensive goals from your outfield should be cumulative, not based on where the guys play defense. Inversely, you should not be considered an asset at any defensive position based on what your offensive stat line reads.

  24. Varlander going for 20 wins before the calendar turns to September is pretty fuckin' cool.
