They were the worst MLB team in 2011 and have been less than average in the past few seasons, but from 1994-2006, they finished either first or second in the NL Central in every season but one. Over that span, the Rangers only finished with more wins than the Astros in one season. Houston (as the Colt .45s and then the Astros) has a better W-L record than their 1962 expansion-mate Mets by 133 games. Two more playoff appearances, too.

I liked it plenty, but I'm not about to go knocking on my neighbor's doors to tell them they've got to go see it. this. i remember a typically vitriolic exchange with willets about grading movies, especially recent movies, with such unequivocally high ratings. Ah, WP. a nemesis to remember. Yeah! I'm not sure why the author of this poll even included it as an option when it is so unequivocally wrong. I still haven't seen it. It will come to cable in about six months...just in time for baseball season, prolly.

  4. I would recommend it. Everything is tongue in cheek...it's actually quite funny, IMO.
  5. I've seen this about 3 times now (I'm watching it this afternoon) and I enjoy it more each time. I like the video game imagery and I even think that Sex Bob Bomb's music kick's ass. Fun shit.
  6. I can't hear Billy Squire's "Rock Me Tonite" without thinking of Aaron Heilman.
  7. Meh. He can say whatever he wants. Were the conditions tough for Riggleman personally? Probably. But, there's been a lot of talk about honor lately, and I think as the leader of a group of men, the last thing you can do is quit on them. This topic has been covered before. I'm fine with him as bench coach if it comes to pass. He's been around baseball long enough that I don't question his smarts. But if Terry gets hit by a bus and Riggleman is promoted to manager, I'll have some concerns. Sandy better have a contract extension ready.
  8. I know I've probably mentioned this here before, but every time I see a game at the BOB since Arizona changed their color scheme, it amazes me that there is really no trace of the ugly teal, purple and gold scheme that they had at inception. I mean, they won a championship in those colors, but it's like every fan burned their teal Johnson, Schilling and Gonzo jerseys the day they switched to the brick red color. Those jerseys were expensive...I'm always looking for hints of teal or purple in the crowd an rarely find them. I find that weird.

Edgy DC wrote: You're a little sensitive to seeing a dude's body. Stay there for a second, I'm going to have him turn a round and bat lefty. You know, for a complete representation. I've got no problem with seeing a dude's body...but seeing Jose posing on the cover of a mag is kind of like seeing a co-worker or a next door neighbor do it. You know, someone you see all the time with their clothes on and don't really expect to see them with their clothes off.
  10. Check out some of these threads, Ceets. http://archives.cranepoolforum.net/index.php?ThisForumID=18&ThisMonth=2007-1 We haven't done it in a year or two.
  11. Not for nothing, but I'm still a little weary of Riggleman and the way he left DC. I'm not sure I want a guy who quit on his team because of a personal disagreement over his contract having any influence on this team.
  12. Pujols is still a whiny little bitch. http://espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs/2011/story/_/id/7061313/albert-pujols-pans-mlb-late-afternoon-start-times

I don't care who the closer is...especially since we have candidates within the organization. The way Alderson has addressed the issue of blown saves I would say he thinks having a good one is very important. I think having a shortstop/lead off man is very important. I think having a catcher and centerfielder that excel at either offense or defense is important. I think having another reliable starting pitcher is important. Alderson has already given us what he believes our budget to be for next season and signing an established closer would be the last thing I'm looking to spend the limited money on. Closer by committee is fine by me. I think that if other postitions aren't addressed first, there won't be many games to save. And, hey, if we really need an established one, there's usually one available via mid-season trade.

  15. I'm in.
  16. I think I got a Steve Trout in every other pack I opened.
  17. Tropicana Field is even ugly on MLB Gameday.
  18. I consider Topps' designs from 1983 to 1987 to be pretty unforgettable images of my youth. I remember cutting the tops with the team name off of the 1986 cards and taping new one's on if a player was traded mid-season. Horrible to a card collector, but lots of fun for me. Besides...doubles? I had doubles.
  19. I'm not sure how you don't walk Fielder there. Kirk looks like a moron now. 4-0 Brewers at the top of 8.
  20. Brewers load the bases with no one out in the fourth, but only get one run on a sac fly. 1-0 Beermakers.
  21. Wisconsin has become a sports mecca this weekend. ESPN is in town for the college football game, there are Brewer playoff games and the undefeated Packers play tomorrow. My downtown is an ugly mess of clashing red, white, blue, green and gold being worn by fans. Yuck.
  22. What happened to Murphy's face?
  23. What'd I miss? I was playing cards and drinking beer with Rickey, Bobby Bo and Keith in the clubhouse.
