  1. Finally saw this last night...I agree, it was an interesting interpretation of the book. Not a great movie, but interesting and visually beautiful. I love that that this movie had guys in suits and saved the CGI solely for the faces of the monsters. Much more real to me.
  2. Page's best work IMO (and most "bitchy") is in this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0424136/
  3. If there is one actress in Hollywood whose presence in a movie makes me instantly not want to see that movie no matter how good it is supposed to be, it's Julia Roberts. Sandra Bullock is a poor man's Julia Roberts.
  4. This film is set in Austin, TX and the surrounding areas, yet none of the major characters have Texas accents. WTF?
  5. Our Local Elitist Prick Video store uses your phone # as your member #. It's fairly easy to remember.
  6. We ditched Netflix a few months ago. We have a local video store that fits our needs. Cheap fees and daily specials. I also have the Direct TV package with 25ish movie channels, so we try to find something to watch there if we are going to watch TV. Netflix never worked for me. I need to make decisions while holding boxes in my hand. I also need the instant gratification of going home and watching the movie that night.
  7. How violent is this movie? My special lady friend vetoed renting this over the past weekend claiming that it would be too violent. Is this something I'm going to have to watch without her?
  8. I've only seen 18 of these movies: ADVENTURELAND ANGELS & DEMONS BRUNO EXTRACT FRIDAY THE 13TH THE HANGOVER I LOVE YOU, MAN THE INFORMANT! INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS OBSERVE AND REPORT PAPER HEART PAUL BLART MALL COP STAR TREK SUNSHINE CLEANING XMEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE YEAR ONE UP (ani) ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL (documentary) Bruno, The Informant!, Inglorious Basterds, Up and Anvil! were the only ones I didn't think were pretty crappy.
  9. Requiem for a Dream Gladiator Vanilla Sky Kill Bill: Vol. 1 & 2 Shaun of the Dead The Devil's Rejects The Departed Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan Superbad The Dark Knight
  10. For a 300 million dollar cartoon, I'm glad someone liked it. This movie is the exact reason I have HBO. In 10 to 12 months I will be falling asleep to it on my couch.
  11. Sold. I've moved him up from 1 to 5.
  12. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I haven't even looked at the numbers but I can tell you right now that Parnell belongs higher than several guys on your list (Sullivan, Misch, Takahashi, Redding), simply as a function of being there all year. I disagree. 88.1 IP of a 78 ERA+ (Parnell) is worth less to me than: Misch - 59 IP of a 100 ERA+ Redding - 120 IP of an 81 ERA+ Sullivan - 157 PA of a 92 OPS+ I could probably be talked into moving Takahashi down on my list as he had only 27.1 IP of a 139 ERA+, but Parnell was the crappiest pitcher that was there all year.
  13. 30 David Wright 29 Johan Santana 28 Luis Castillo 27 Daniel Murphy 26 Pedro Feliciano 25 Francisco Rodriguez 24 Carlos Beltran 23 Brian Stokes 22 Angel Pagan 21 Jeff Fracoeur 20 Gary Sheffield 19 Fernando Tatis 18 Fernando Nieve 17 Nelson Figueroa 16 Patrick Misch 15 Sean Green 14 Mike Pelfrey 13 Omir Santos 12 John Maine 11 Ken Takahashi 10 Elmer Dessens 9 Alex Cora 8 Ryan Church 7 Carlos Delgado 6 Jose Reyes 5 Bobby Parnell 4 Tim Redding 3 Cory Sullivan 2 Livan Hernandez 1 Anderson Hernandez Schneider, Perez and Putz will get nothing and like it. edit - Parnell moved from 1 to 5
  14. From wikipedia: Jon Favreau as Barry Mclean: Favreau jested that he had trouble getting into character. He had "never played a character with a small penis before."
  15. I found this to be a pile of poo.
  16. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: "Boogie Nights" is holding for you on Line 1, TM. It sounds pissed. I'm not convinced his performance in "Boogie Nights" is anywhere near stellar. It was decent, but certainly not anything a heaping handful of other actors his age could have done given the script and direction. My point was more that if you can appriciate Mark Wahlberg, the actor (as one-dimensional as that may or may not be), this was his first role in which he appears as a mediocre actor...which is far more than I would have given him credit for following his Funky Bunch days before seeing him in this film.
  17. I think it has merit. I've never read the book so I don't know how true to the story it is. I saw half of it a year or two ago and found it to be dated as far as the filming is concerned. It looks like it was made in the 90s. Leo DiCaprio gives a good performance. It features Marky Mark in his first true acting role, which is as good as any he's done. Jim Carroll makes a cameo. I remember really enjoying it when it first came out. Kind of a bummer film, but I would watch it again...and probably will. Edgy doesn't like it.
  18. Rented it last week. Thought it would be funnier than it was. In my mind it turned out to be a long romantic flick with characters that I didn't really care about. Nice soundtrack, though.
  19. Even with the Yell-O song, John Hughes films were rich with golden nuggets of great music.
  20. Planes, Trains and Automobiles is really an underrated movie. There are parts that are hilarious. All of these movies, save Uncle Buck, are OK in my book and I would probably stop on any of them, save Uncle Buck, if I were flipping on a Saturday afternoon. For voting purposes, I went with Breakfast Club. Also, to add to Edgy's Bueller comment: I get lost before that when somehow they manage to get a Cubs game in on that day off.
  21. I'm hoping Scott can at least bring some respectability back to the franchise, which has been lacking since the second one. Weaver doesn't seem to be involved, so the story has the chance to at least be an original look at the aliens. Still, not expecting too much.
  22. Ridley Scott to make Alien prequel. http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2009/08/03/ridley-scott-to-direct-%E2%80%98alien%E2%80%99-prequel/
  23. Haven't seen this...probably won't until it comes out on DVD. But I was in Manitowish Waters over the weekend and drove by the Little Bohemia Lodge. The tiny towns up there are really hyping up the Dillinger connection for tourism.
  24. Fell aspleep to it last night. I'll pop it back in tonight and try again.
  25. I apologize, I was thinking of Let's Rock Again! The Future Is Unwritten is now on my list.
