    Finally saw this last night...I agree, it was an interesting interpretation of the book. Not a great movie, but interesting and visually beautiful. I love that that this movie had guys in suits and saved the CGI solely for the faces of the monsters. Much more real to me.

    If there is one actress in Hollywood whose presence in a movie makes me instantly not want to see that movie no matter how good it is supposed to be, it's Julia Roberts. Sandra Bullock is a poor man's Julia Roberts.

    This film is set in Austin, TX and the surrounding areas, yet none of the major characters have Texas accents. WTF?

    We ditched Netflix a few months ago. We have a local video store that fits our needs. Cheap fees and daily specials. I also have the Direct TV package with 25ish movie channels, so we try to find something to watch there if we are going to watch TV. Netflix never worked for me. I need to make decisions while holding boxes in my hand. I also need the instant gratification of going home and watching the movie that night.

    How violent is this movie? My special lady friend vetoed renting this over the past weekend claiming that it would be too violent. Is this something I'm going to have to watch without her?

THE STORY OF ANVIL (documentary) Bruno, The Informant!, Inglorious Basterds, Up and Anvil! were the only ones I didn't think were pretty crappy.

    For a 300 million dollar cartoon, I'm glad someone liked it. This movie is the exact reason I have HBO. In 10 to 12 months I will be falling asleep to it on my couch.

My point was more that if you can appriciate Mark Wahlberg, the actor (as one-dimensional as that may or may not be), this was his first role in which he appears as a mediocre actor...which is far more than I would have given him credit for following his Funky Bunch days before seeing him in this film.

    I think it has merit. I've never read the book so I don't know how true to the story it is. I saw half of it a year or two ago and found it to be dated as far as the filming is concerned. It looks like it was made in the 90s. Leo DiCaprio gives a good performance. It features Marky Mark in his first true acting role, which is as good as any he's done. Jim Carroll makes a cameo. I remember really enjoying it when it first came out. Kind of a bummer film, but I would watch it again...and probably will. Edgy doesn't like it.

    Rented it last week. Thought it would be funnier than it was. In my mind it turned out to be a long romantic flick with characters that I didn't really care about. Nice soundtrack, though.

    Even with the Yell-O song, John Hughes films were rich with golden nuggets of great music.

    Planes, Trains and Automobiles is really an underrated movie. There are parts that are hilarious. All of these movies, save Uncle Buck, are OK in my book and I would probably stop on any of them, save Uncle Buck, if I were flipping on a Saturday afternoon. For voting purposes, I went with Breakfast Club. Also, to add to Edgy's Bueller comment: I get lost before that when somehow they manage to get a Cubs game in on that day off.

    I'm hoping Scott can at least bring some respectability back to the franchise, which has been lacking since the second one. Weaver doesn't seem to be involved, so the story has the chance to at least be an original look at the aliens. Still, not expecting too much.

    Haven't seen this...probably won't until it comes out on DVD. But I was in Manitowish Waters over the weekend and drove by the Little Bohemia Lodge. The tiny towns up there are really hyping up the Dillinger connection for tourism.
