It would probably be the greatest marketing bonanza of all time if someone just said, "How about we go as the 'Pigskins' instead?" They wouldn't even need to change their cool colors! It would acknowledge its past (if questionable) history, be extremely football-appropriate and even recall one of the team's best era (I'm hazy on this but didn't the line go by the Hawgs nickname in their glory days?) Not to mention all the promos they could do in concessions and merch sales. My aunt lived in NoVa when I was a kid and gave me a Redskins pompopm hat one xmas I wore every morning like this one for years. It makes no sense at all they don't do something. They def did go by Hogs/Hawgs whatever. I remember dudes w/ pig hats and everything in the John Riggins days. Not sure what that connection is, but yah, that'd be a perfect one. And it's not like they wouldn't still sell the crap outta "vintage" Redskins stuff to the #hardcorefanz. They'd have twice as much merch to peddle.
  2. I am telegraphing the shit out of that circle change.
  3. Ashie62 wrote: Hasn't stopped the Redskins. The Indians at least acknowledge and pretend to give a shit about the criticisms. The Redskins do not.
  4. What a nice, long, money-filled career "Big Pelf" made for himself. Also, keep that man the hell away from this team.
  5. "We hear you about it being racist or whatever, but we still need to sell some shit." -Indians Brass
  6. Ashie62 wrote: rosenthal speculates Justin Turner has been offered 4/64. What a turd Justin Turner was for us. Can't believe how good he's become.
  7. He was listed ~205 lbs when he was drafted in 2013, but now is listed at 250. Seems he's going for a "Prince Fielder with less power" thing.
  8. Jay Bruce is obv more valuable than Espinosa, but the Nats return in this trade seems pretty paltry. How much more can the Mets realistically expect to get for Bruce ya think?
  9. Ashie62 wrote: What could have been. I did not know this, SO MANY QUESTIONS. This would've been the first stadium retro-fitted to be a dome?? "Completion of the dome is hoped for by the start of 1967". If it's behind sked, where go our beloved Mets? Glass dome? WTF? So light comes through and grass still grows? Or turf like the wondrous AstroDome?? If the Mets did throw this crazy casserole dish lid on top of the stadium, how much earlier to do you think Shea would've met the wrecking ball than it did IRL? (I say earlier for sure) If we got a new stadium in 1999 instead of 2009, would it be cooler/lamer than Citi?
  10. Amazin' Avenue's #5—Dominic Smith: His contact ability and defensive abilities seem to draw universal faith. Even with his 14 homers this season, there's still concern over whether his power will emerge. Me and bmfc saw him on the same night and we were both more concerned with the bowling ball he carries around under his shirt. Amazin' Avenue's #4—Desmond Lindsay: Unlike Nimmo, his first two partial seasons in short-season ball have forced the issue a bit, suggesting a quicker climb is in order. Nagging hamstring injuries are the only thing tempering his reviews (and possibly tempering a more rapid advancement). I'm not entirely put-off by a better fielding version of Eric Hosmer, but I was shocked when I saw how much Dom Smith had ballooned up.
  11. So it's safe to assume that BV musta been a pretty ardent Trump backer.
  12. 5 years x $16M (average annual) for the 30-year old Fowler versus 7 x $23M for the 26-year old Heyward. Their career OPS's are 107 and 108 respectively, but damn, who knows at this point? Fangraphs and Steamer projections predict a full role reversal for 2017 (Fowler down, Heyward up). I think I still might bet on Heyward, long term, but what the shit do I know.
  13. Upper tank, so that was no cheap-o, but what a bandbox down the lines!
  14. Health is no given. My Cahn-fidence is currently luke-warm.
  15. Man, some pretty incredible hauls by the White Sox. You can call it a rebuild, I guess, but these dudes are Major League ready or pretty close.
  16. Matt Holliday to the Yankees. He seems like such a perfect Yankee, even more than he was a perfect Cardinal, with his easy, annoying, hateability.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Ian Desmond finally gets his long-term deal, 5 years to the Rox. Not sure what position they intend for him. One of the corner OF spots I'd guess. Damn, that Desmond signing is going to cost the Rockies not just a draft pick but the most costly draft pick you can surrender under the current rules, #11 overall !! That's kind of a weird one. A 30-year old shortstop turned outfielder who they signed to play 1st base for the next 5 years??
  18. WOW, Yoan Moncada + other dudes. That's a heavier toll than Matz + Rosario/Giolito + Robles, I think. Glad he ends up not in the NL East.
  19. Curious, what would you guys reckon is a hypothetical NYM equivalent to Giolito/Robles/lesser stuff? You are encouraged to include TEBOW if deemed necessary.
  20. What's the rumored haul? Gotta be hella steep, a lot more than just Giolito.
  21. MLBTR sez it'll take more than Bruce or Grandy to land the wonder that is Brach Brad. The Orioles have been linked to Mets outfielders Jay Bruce and Curtis Granderson (they’re said to prefer the latter), but neither of those outfielders would be enough to get the O’s to part with Brach. WTF kinda world are we living in
  22. Frayed Knot wrote: Mark Melancon to the Giants on a reported four-year deal (pending physical yadda yadda) Versatile utility man Steve Pearce does the AL East shuffle by going from the O's to the Jays I was kinda hoping the Nats would empty their wallet on Melancon. Hope they're not like "eff it, Chris Sale".

  25. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, I think Sandy might look into buying his kids some new Welingtons this Christmas Not sure what Welington (nickname gotta be "BEEF" right?) will ultimately land, but wonder if Sandy was like "ah, shit", holding Rivera's contract with the still-wet ink. Deep, 15-second Google research tells me that Beef's defense is, to quote the internet, "weak".
