I usually prefer your cards with action shots, Grimmy-- a la that '78 Dickey-- but the Ike is pristine. I dunno. The card's not centered and the top corners are dinged and rounded. It's not minty.
  2. Almost 500 feet wide -- still nothing larger: Anyone ever seen this one?

It's no beard off of Jerry's chin. The Mets only had the best record in the NL during the remaining 2008 that Jerry inherited from Wee Willie. Don't blame Jerry for the Mets failure to make the playoffs that season. The games in April count just as much as the ones in September. For all of the criticism that Jerry gets around here, a lot of it deserved, it'd be nice for someone to acknowledge his deft touch over the team during his interim tenure. He didn't bunt in 2008 either. And while Jerry may have bumbled through the last two seasons, I think it's also accurate to say that he didn't have all of the horses he would need to satisfy the high expectations thrust upon him.

I get the impression that the Wilpons gave us a scoreboard grudgingly, the same way that they gave us a Mets HOF a year later. The Mets' scoreboard portion of the scoreboard looks like an afterthought -- an excuse to sell more ad space. I wonder if the Wilpons lose any sleep at night over the fact that there's a portion of their scoreboard that isn't generating ad revenue? Seriously? I'm not high on the Wilpons either but they didn't "grudgingly" include the scoreboard. .... Generally speaking, the Citi Field boards themselves are middle-of-the-pack. Not fantastic, but not awful. The out-of-town scoreboard would be among the best in the league if it could be seen properly at night. I know that they didn't give us a scoreboard grudgingly. I was being sarcastic. You didn't know that? You couldn't tell? Really now? So which is your least favorite of the modern scoreboards?
  6. No surprises here.

Two of my favorite scoreboards no longer exist, but were unveiled within one season of each other: Shea Stadium's scoreboard (through the '70's) and the Astrodome scoreboard. The modern scoreboards are technologically superior. But they're all so redundant looking. Seen one, seen 'em all, for the most part. One of these decades, some baseball owner is going to build a retro cookie cutter doughnut stadium, just to be different. One of my modern favorites is the scoreboard at The Rogers Centre, which is essentially nothing more than a gigantic screen. But it's sleek and uncluttered. I like the Royals scoreboard, too. (I know, not modern) And I like the way that the Yankees distanced their scoreboard advertising from the scoreboard itself. 15. The top 50 Mets pitching WAR seasons, all-time, in chronological order. Despite missing the last month of this season, Johan's 2010 ranks as 34th best Met season ever, displacing Jesse Orosco's fabulous 1983 campaign from the Mets top 50. R.A. Dickey misses the top 50 by a few knuckles, checking in at 56th all time best Met pitching WAR. 17. It's very likely that Heyman has a reliable insider source within the Mets organization. Like him or not, over the past few seasons, Heyman's been the most accurate member of the media at predicting Mets developments before they happened.

And walking away from CASABLANCA is inexusable. Flawed plots do not bother me overmuch. Or rather, if i like a film, i'll excuse logical plot flaws. And if i don't like a film, i can pick its plot apart with disgust. But plots are just story-telling mechanics, and they can work better or worse, but are generally not a cause for my liking or not liking a movie, which has so many other story-telling tools at its disposal. Dick Crazy sez it was Cleopatra with a gun in a lover's quarrel. Cleopatra with a gun? How's that for a plot flaw?
  19. More missing Mets from the 10th Inning: During the Joe Torre segment, the producers used video from every major league team Torre was ever asscociated with (Braves -- as player and manager; Cards -- as player and manager; Yankees (obviously) as manager) except the Mets.

  21. Thanks Vic. I may have to watch Vertigo this weekend. It's not as if there's any baseball being played that's interesting me. I don't mind the moroseness of Vertigo so much. I just remember the plot as being flawed. But I'm the guy that walks away from Casablanca because Paul Henreid as Laszlo, an enemy of the Third Reich, is allowed to exist in Vichy France with all of the apparent freedom of the King of Siam. Duck Soup's one of my all time faves -- a desert island movie.
