  1. The efforts here are terrific. But I still don't get a lot of this thread. Why would the Egyptians build a sacred monument in Jeff Wilpon's image?
  2. Vic Sage wrote: Hitters: Pitchers: Every starter not named Harvey and Niese, and every reliever other than Atchison (and, to a lesser extent, Rice, Parnell and Lyon). Especially damaging are: * Gee - meeting my low expectations for him; * Hafner, Laffey - what you see...; * Burke, Edgin - Both terrible, but I still have some hope for them; * Hawkins - Put the old boy out of his misery already. I commend you, and everybody else in this forum who can even identify those pitchers by name. Because I'm watchin' Met games this year and I'm going to myself: "Who the fuck is this guy? Who the fuck is that guy? like every third inning. There's one pitcher who even looks like Jeff Reardon and I know that can''t be 'cause Reardon'd be like 50 years old and not even the Mets could be so hard up for pitching. Ya gotta have patience. This is a lost season. This is the year when you can waste three innings on the Shake Shack line. Not that there'd be enough attendance to make that line last as long. But a Shack Burger's better than a Cowgill at bat, sez me.

  4. Dennis Cook was the last Marlin to wear #42.
  5. I'll post the remaining player in about 10 or 15 minutes. OK?
  6. Well, I screwed up this quiz because I, once again, (I've done this before) forgot that Jose Lima was a Met. So there's one more, a total of four.
  7. When MLB retired Jackie Robinson's uniform #42 on April 15, 1997, 12 players who were then currently wearing #42 were grandfathered in as exceptions to the uni # retirement. Of those 12, [crossout]three[/crossout] four either played for, or would play for the Mets. Who are those [crossout]three[/crossout] four? One guess per post.
  8. Tuesday is Turn Back The Clock, and Rockies are going to go all the back to Game #1, which means this: And...sadly, this I'm a little surprised that the Mets are participating in a Turn Back the Clock game with retro uniforms. That'll cost eff n jeff an extra couple of grand.
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Ugh, 100% of the cards from the metallic ink era. This. I hate doing this for the '90's expansion teams. So many of those cards feature cluttered designs and aren't even readable. In these posts, I dig seeing the cards I collected as a kid, not only for sentimental reasons, but because I can read those cards.
  10. And...sadly, this Criticism of the Mets 1993-1994 unis generally comes in two flavors: the first complaint focuses on the break in tradition: the Mets didn't wear tails/underscores/flourishes for 30 years so why start now (then)? This one's at least easy to understand, putting aside whether or not you'd agree with it. The second complaint -- that the unis are (were) ugly is harder to digest. It's a classic, understated baseball design. It's simple and not garish. If the Mets began their inaugural season with that design, no one would have called the logo ugly.

  13. It's not nearly as much fun as doing this for a team that's been around at least as long as the Mets have.
  14. Zvon wrote: Maybe it's for the best. Remember, these are the Mets. He probably woulda ended up overthrwowing too many pitches in the freezing cold and then probably ruined his career.
  15. I had the vinyl and CD, but I never really examined the cover. Who is the babe? Phillis Diller? The babe is actress Glynis John, a play on words on Glyn Johns, Led Zep's recording engineer. The album cover was based on this photo:
  16. Betcha Zvon ain't got no Byrd Homer image.

  18. Zvon wrote: I SEE IT! Ya know that night when we were talking about some not seeing Korman? The next day I looked at the thread and I could not see the ones I posted the night before. They all said "image". Wacky stuff. I fixed the problem of the missing image. What I did was to upload the images to a flickr page I maintain. I'm posting the Kormans from that flickr page.
