Postseason Rosters Card Quiz
batmagadanleadoff replied to stevejrogers's topic in New York Mets Talk
I'm guessing Jim Gosger. Guessing, cause I'm not sure if he was on the post-season roster. I know he didn't have a card in '74. In fact, he's Toppless as a Met altogether, despite playing for the Mets in three different seasons. -

Topps 1986 Mets Archives Collection Box

More stuff about the 1986 Topps Mets. The fringiest '86 Mets pitcher to appear in the '86 Topps set was Ed Lynch, who pitched 1.2 innings for the '86 Mets, before succumbing to an injury and then, a trade to the Cubs. The fringiest '86 Mets non-pitcher to appear in the '86 Topps set was Danny Heep (227 PA's - not exactly fringy). The other Topps MIA's among the '86 Mets --in addition to already noted Tim Corcoran, Barry Lyons, Ed Hearn, Stan Jefferson, Rick Anderson, John Gibbons & John Mitchell -- are Kevin Elster, Dave Magadan and Randy Myers, who all made their MLB debuts in '86, and surprisingly, late-season acquisition Lee Mazzilli, who, you'da figured, still had enough name in the game to merit inclusion in the Traded set 1986 Mets in Traded set: [fimg=433]http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMTUz/z/1VQAAOxywh1TFh0-/$_57.JPG[/fimg] -

Meanwhile, don't look now but if the season ended today, the Mets would be hosting the Rockies in the single elimination Wild Card play-in game.

The Poor Man's Rick Reed gots his Mojo working. Maybe it's Dillon who deserves his own thread. Series in review: Gee continues the run April, 27, 2014 By Mark Simon | ESPNNewYork.com The Mets won two of three from the Marlins to make it six wins in the past eight games and close their 10-game homestand 6-4. Dillon Gee's win in the series finale marked the first time in his career that he finished a start with at least eight scoreless innings. Opponents are now hitting .193 against Gee this season. He has a 0.86 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in his past three starts, in which hes allowed only two extra-base hits. Its part of a great run by Mets starters, who had a 2.49 ERA on the 10-game homestand. Gees changeup and slider were at their best on Sunday. He threw them a combined 27 times, netting 20 strikes and 10 outs (including five strikeouts) without yielding a baserunner. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/85313/series-in-review-gee-continues-the-run Gee ranks (NL) Hits per9 inn. - 6th IP - 5th GS - 2nd Batters faced - 9th Sit. Jays Dickey delivers on bobblehead day Jays pitcher shuts down Red Sox ORONTO R.A. Dickey, on his bobblehead day, outduelled Jon Lester and Brett Lawrie provided the early offence as the Toronto Blue Jays ended a four-game slide with a 7-1 win Sunday over the Boston Red Sox. On a weekend where racism in sports made headlines thanks to Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, the Jays made Major League Baseball history with a record six Dominicans in the starting lineup: Jose Reyes, Melky Cabrera, Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Juan Francisco and Moises Sierra. But a Canadian and American took the early leading roles for Toronto (12-13) in front of an announced sellout of 45,260 before the Jays put the game away with two runs in the seventh and three in the eighth. Lawrie, a native of Langley, B.C., who entered the game hitting .165 but leading the team in RBIs, drove in two runs with a homer and double to increase his RBI total to 20. Dickey, a native of Nashville, scattered five hits over 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run and striking out six. Relievers Steve Delabar and Esmil Rogers closed out the game for Toronto, which outhit Boston 9-6. Lester (2-4) deserved better from his seven innings. He gave up four runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking none. He threw 120 pitches, 80 for strikes, as Boston (12-14) was denied its first sweep of Toronto since June 10-12, 2011. The Boston left-hander came into the game with a 15-7 career mark against Toronto, having held the Jays to a .199 batting average. It was the first win for Dickey (2-3) since April 5 and came after three starts in which he went 0-2 with 13 walks in 13 1/3 innings. Walks have been a thorn in the Jays side. Toronto pitchers had issued 108 free passes going into play Sunday, second-worst in the majors. But Dickey was in control of his knuckleball Sunday. He threw 95 pitches, including 62 strikes. And he didnt issue a walk, after coming into the game tied for the major-league lead with 18 free passes from his first five starts. The former Cy Young Award-winner has received next to no run support this season. In his six starts, Dickey has got just seven runs from his offence. After the Jays went ahead 2-1 in the third, Dickey and Lester took turns mowing down the opposition. Dickey retired 10 straight before hitting Will Middlebrooks to open the seventh. Xander Bogaerts doubled one out later, sending Middlebrooks to third and Dickey to the dugout to warm applause for his efforts. Delabar dispatched the next two batters to end the threat. Toronto increased its lead to 4-1 in the seventh on back-to-back doubles by Encarnacion and Lawrie and an RBI groundout by Sierra. Lester had retired 10 straight prior to the inning. Reyes scored on an RBI single by Bautista who extended his on-base streak to 25 games in the eighth before Encarnacion drove in two more with another double. Dickey retired his first five hitters before giving up a run on three straight singles with the RBI going to Jackie Bradley Jr. Lawrie tied it up with one swing of the bat in the bottom of the second, depositing a 3-2 Lester delivery into left-centre for his sixth homer and just 16th hit of the season. 28 starts, 175 IP, 11-8, 3.48 ERA, 16 HR allowed, 118 K, 28 BB, and a whole lotta jiggly fun oShTJ90fC34 Think he'll be fine, and carry his weight. When informed that the Mets will be at home this fourth of July, 7-time defending champ Joey Chestnut ups his training routine. [fimg=433]http://s3.amazonaws.com/stnd-culture-staging/photos/16841/medium.jpg[/fimg] I'm guessing he'll be able to pound the strike zone with regularity, which will tip the scales in his favor. 12-12, 3.90, 68 hot dogs. gpaOy8b8X6A Did anyone yet mention that Colon could be the Mets best inning-eater? 'Cause I'll go with that one if no one else did. Yes, but those innings always seem to go to his hips. Friend, I don't want to live in a world where the fat jokes decline, regardless of reason. No more Bartolo fat jokes!!!!! Bartolo Colon fat jokes prompt Mets to boycott reporter By Dayn Perry | Baseball Writer April 26, 2014 6:10 pm ET The Mets would like you to stop making Bartolo Colon jokes. It would seem that the Mets have grown weary of "fat jokes" made at the expense of right-hander Bartolo Colon. As Justin Tasch of the New York Daily News writes, the Mets following their 4-3 win over the Marlins on Friday undertook a boycott of sorts: Apparently angry about an article in the New York Post on Friday about Bartolo Colon under the headline “LARDBALL,” the players would not talk to the media until Post writer Mike Puma left the clubhouse. Puma was asked to leave and did so without incident. Within a minute, several Mets appeared in the clubhouse. The team would not comment on the incident. While that headline was almost certainly not Puma's doing, this was his lede from the article in question: If the umpires searched Bartolo Colon's neck for a foreign substance on Thursday, chances are they only would have found peanut butter. Presumably, the Mets have made their point, and relations will continue on a normal basis going forward. As for the Bartolo Colon jokes, well, they're likely to continue apace. Trying to resist one right now, in fact. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24540555/bartolo-colon-fat-jokes-prompt-mets-to-boycott-reporter

metsguyinmichigan wrote: The team spokesman certainly cannot. I suppose a team could include a "no social media" clause in a contract that a player would have to agree to. And probably have a policy saying "no social media" while on the clock, such as it is for a baseball player. But I don't think a team could create an enforceable rule preventing a player, on his own time, from posting on Twitter or Facebook. Would be like a policy preventing a player from writing a book or something. I'd bet that a team could impose all of those bans, so long as they don't violate the CBA. Teams may choose not to, for fear of, I dunno, alienating potential free agents. But that's another story. I know that teams already ban managers from writing books about the team, at least while the manager's still managing. This has been SOP for many years. Perhaps teams ban their active players from writing team or season accounts as well, without explicit permission from the team (i.e., a waiver of the ban depending on the circumstances). Preventing someone from writing a book as a condition of employment is not unusual. Public figures do this all the time with their domestic help, underlings and other slaves. I don't know what the CBA says about social media, but players aren't free to do whatever they want when the game's over. There are road curfews and off-limit joints and restricted activity clauses in their contracts that might prevent a player from riding a motorcycle or playing touch football, even in January, just to give a few examples.

In fact, if Fernandez pitched, I'd even pay to see that Mets game in person.
