  1. Teams are asking about Yoenis. Do I see a classic Wilpon salary dump here with maybe, an unremarkable minor league reliever thrown the Mets way?
  2. Hard to answer because "Fiddler", whether in story, on film or in theater, has been given different endings. Also, who is "the fellow?'
  3. Can't pin the roster down just yet, not only because it's December and the Mets'll likely make more moves, but because of the new 26 man roster rules that go into effect beginning next season. As part of those new roster rules, MLB will set a cap on the number of pitchers a team can carry on the 26 man roster -- a number yet to be determined. That number might be 12. Also, teams are going to have to designate players as either pitchers or non-pitchers: Furthermore, the number of pitchers a club can carry on the active roster will be capped (maximum number TBD). To adhere to that rule, clubs will have to designate each player as either a pitcher or a position player prior to each player's first day on the active roster for a given season. That designation cannot change for the remainder of the season. Position players will not be allowed to pitch except in the following scenarios: • They are designated as a "Two-Way Player." A player can only qualify for this designation if he accrues at least 20 Major League innings pitched and at least 20 Major League games started as a position player or designated hitter (with at least three plate appearances in each of those games) in the current or prior season. • A game goes into extra innings. • A player's team is losing or winning by more than six runs when he enters as a pitcher. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/26th-manhttp://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/26th-man
  4. What's the deal with the Daily News using the Mets logo to fill in some empty space? Like or no like? I don't.
  5. Jon Matlack. Winner! Winner! Meatball Dinner! More WAR. Mike Piazza led the Mets in single-season WAR just once (2001). Musta got punished for his D. 7. Jacob deGrom has led the Mets in single-season WAR four of the last five seasons. Through Tom Seaver's first 10 full seasons as a Met, 1967-1976, (Arcane trivia: Seaver's Mets full season streak ended in '77 when he was traded in mid-season to the Reds) only one other Met has led the Mets in single-season WAR besides Seaver. This Met did it twice. Who is that Met? No two-in-a-rowing allowed. QUIZ DIFFICULTY LEVEL: EEZY PEEZY
  8. Those were a thing 15 or 20 years ago. Here's an all Piazza nesting doll set. [FIMG=444]https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/yvIAAOSw~IFbt7jw/s-l300.jpg[/FIMG] Here's another: [FIMG=444]https://i.etsystatic.com/15058766/r/il/2d1e2c/1509311884/il_1588xN.1509311884_qm6s.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=444]https://i.etsystatic.com/15058766/r/il/bc7c39/1556778507/il_794xN.1556778507_m68w.jpg[/FIMG] I have one of those and it's right near my desk so I can grab it pretty easily without moving too much. In my set, the nesting Mets are in home pinstripes -- not the black uniform pinstripes with the 3D black --- and they are -- from biggest to smallest: Mike Piazza John Olerud Todd Hundley Manny Alexander (yes! - Manny Alexander) and Rickey Henderson an historically imposible set at least in the sense that those five Mets never, collectively, played together on the Mets as teammates. What uniforms are your Endicott Mets wearing?
  9. What is your obsession with Plawecki's sex toys? Me? Obsessed? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49214236671_c3f100b165_c.jpg> That issue is almost as good as the one on Doc Gooden's favorite lubricants. You like the Sex issues? We have more.
  10. You know people get killed being thrown or falling from horses? Like, a LOT. (Something like 1 serious, life-threatening injury every 300 hours riding.) Never mind fractures, ligament tears and crush injuries. I'm all about employee rights in the face of unreasonable employer demands... but this isn't that. Sure, maybe he did something super dangerous, but that seems less likely on his own ranch. "Does it?" -Jayson Williams, Madison Bumgarner, Jeff Kent, Jason Pierre-Paul, and various others Horses are inherently dangerous, especially because they can be unpredictable. They're enormously powerful beasts and they can easily --and I really mean easily-- kill a person with just one kick. And if they don't kill you with that kick, they can destroy your bones as easy as you and I can snap apart a set of chopsticks. I just thought of this, too: not only is Yoenis obligated to provide the Mets with his medical records unconditionally under his regular MLB contract, as I already said, -- but in addition, there's surely a clause in the insurance contract the Mets took out on Cespedes that's been kicking in -- obligating Cespedes to also provide the insurer with his medical records as well. Yoenis had to sign that insurance contract, or else the Mets wouldn't have given him the underlying contract in the first place. Or if Yoenis didn't sign that insurance agreement, that's likely because there would already be a clause in his regular MLB contract obligating him to provide his medical records to an insurer in connection with any insurance agreement related to his MLB contract. An insurer isn't gonna pay out for injuries without examining the relevant medical records. That's just crazy talk -- that Cespedes would sign a $110M contract that the owners would then insure, but neither the owners or the insurer should be allowed access to Cespedes's medical records.

  13. people too busy insinuating that Cespedes wasn't trying to get back in 2019 because he's lazy, despite not being paid all year. Ohferrchrissakes! Yoenis is a sweet little angel who could not have possibly breached his contract because Mets can do no wrong ever. And Fred Willpon didnt screw Yoenis out of contract money because Mets owners can do no wrong ever, either. This is a crazy clash of unbelievable events that is likely to alter the space time continuum just like The Doc always sez. Fasten your seatbelts. no, fuck that. This is Cespedes money and he shouldn't have to give it up for a fucking accident. This is literally "you got cancer so we're canceling your insurance" territory. Sure, if they think he was doing stunt jumps in a thunderstorm or playing Misery with a friend, I get it. Hell, if they do HAVE medical evidence that it was more than just what he said, it was probably voluntarily given to them by Cespedes under the guise of them helping him heal and rehab. This is mildly better than voiding a contract for "going to the wrong doctors" but damn, it's a slippery slope to teams voiding your contract for simply getting hurt in any way off the field. Or using the wrong trainer. Or hell, the trainer said take it easy and you did an extra rep and strained your hamstring. oops, voided. Whlie we're at it, his money shouldn't count against the CBT, there shouldn't be a CBT, and the Mets shouldn't care about the CBT. He's obligated to provide the Mets with his medical records, probably whenever the Mets want them. You think the Mets are gonna pay Yoenis a king's fortune to play a sport and not know his state of health? What's the matter with you?
  14. Edgy MD wrote: Well, the Mets probably have a co-plaintiff in the insurance carrier, and those guys investigate the hell out of multi-million-dollar payoffs. They probably have strong medical evidence that Yoenis could not have possibly reinjured himself the way he claims he did. Not likely that the Mets have eyewitness evidence.

  16. =Ceetar post_id=28396 time=1576268136 user_id=102] I don't understand why the both of you insist on characterizing positive about the Mets moves and prospects as having anything to do with the Wilpons,
  17. the Mets could absolutely win the World Series before Cohen (assuming it happens) takes over. The odds of it happening might be greater than the Wheeler, Cole, or Strasburg winning a Cy Young. So biggest story? not a damn chance. I see. The Mets might "absolutely" win the WS real soon. So therefore, the Wilpons relinquishing the Mets won't be one of the biggest stories in franchise history. Hey Centerfield: does any of that make any sense you, 'cause to me, it doesn't. Look, "on paper" the Mets were in the hunt last year. Nationals 90 Phillies 86 Mets 85 Braves 84 And that'e precisely the half-assed, half measure Wilpon approach. To be in the hunt rather than to project as a first place team. Because by your own numbers, the Mets were, on paper, a third place team much closer to fourth place than to first place.
  18. What is your obsession with Plawecki's sex toys? Me? Obsessed? https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49214236671_c3f100b165_c.jpg>
  19. fuck off. I defend the Mets as a good team and fun and I try to temper to the nonsense that everything they do is wrong, bad and not enough. That's bullshit. The Mets are in a VERY good position right now, and I find the nonsense here and elsewhere trying to tell me the real joy is in some fictional 2025 wet dream. A coupl' a things. First off, the Mets are not in a 'VERY good position". They have a good team. I'll grant you that because I happen to agree. But being a good team doesn't necessarily put the Mets in a good position these days because they play in a division that, right now, appears to be brutally competitive. In today's NL East, a "good" team could very well finish in fourth place. Granted, no one knows what's gonna happen. Anything could happen and anything will happen because hardly anything in sports ever goes according to script. There'll be WS contenders that are out of it by August and underdogs playing out of their minds and a coupl'a new star players that nobody saw coming. It happens every year. But hoping for the unexpected or to get lucky or to play over your head or to hope that Porcello rediscovers his Cy Young groove (he won't - just like Mo Vaughn didn't rediscover his old MVP groove and Michael Cuddyer - a zillion miles from Coors Field and coming off a season long injury at age 35 -- didn't win a batting title at Citi Field) is not a reasonable strategy for a NY team. You can only go by what's "on paper". And right now, on paper, I'm not even sure the Mets look like a Wild Card team. The strategy shouldn't be to maintain last year's status quo or to field a "good" team. Not in this division. I'm happy for you that you can enjoy the Mets with an almost child-like innocence. And that's not an insult. Sometimes I wish i could, as well. But that doesn't mean that none of us grumpy beaten-down cynics can't talk about Steven Cohen, which to any other hard core Mets fan, is shaping up as one of the biggest stories in franchise history. We're gonna talk about everything Mets. The good, the bad, the ugly and the big black dildo in Kevin Plawecki's old locker. You need to get over it already.

  21. Edgy MD wrote: Images? Even for billionaires, there are good investments and bad ones. This investment is in fact good for their image, no? That they're willing to spend money necessary to compete? It's much more than simply calculating how much the Yankees can afford to spend. It's that the Yankees stand to gain more from a WS win, or a nice playoff run. And they'll benefit more from the same playoff run that any other team can theoretically have. In other words, a playoff run, or WS win is worth more to the Yankees than to most other teams. Funny how the Mets play in the exact same city yet can't leverage those features. What poetic justice that they're gonna lose their team because as far as Katz's kids are concerned, Jeff Wilpon is the douchebag dick that every baseball insider already knows he is.
  22. =Ceetar post_id=28303 time=1576180018 user_id=102] Steamer thinks so. 0.8 for Vargas, 1.1 for Wacha, 1.8 for Porcello. fWAR.
