=Ceetar post_id=9375 time=1557251131 user_id=102] Not sure how to do 'first game against the Mets' split, but here's the combined pitching record for the first start against the Mets that occurs within a pitcher's first three career starts Since 2015: 7-17 (pitcher's have a 5-10 record) and a 4.976 ERA

    It was an 8:05 start.

=Gwreck post_id=8944 time=1556821768 user_id=56] First time since 1983 that a MLB pitcher wins a 1-0 game with a CG shutout and hits a solo homer.

Way to go, O'Rourke. Now someone get that man a real uni number.

And the pool is left speechless by Vargas' performance.

I'll go with Ramos. I don't know jack about the subtleties of catching, but the odds of DeGrom, Syndergaard, Wheeler, and Familia all crapping out at once randomly are slim, and the catcher is the one common thread. And he's been killing us with his bat. And he's slow even by catcher's standards.

=seawolf17 post_id=8558 time=1556547429 user_id=91] =G-Fafif post_id=8553 time=1556546209 user_id=55] I learned from the Athletic's Tim Britton that the Reds have never had a Cy Young winner, which makes sense if you stop to think about it, but still. Closest to hardware? No. 41 in strike-sundered 1981.

-> d'Arnaud looks d'one. -> Nido is not the answer. -> Mesoraco didn't suck in 2018. He wasn't bad at all as deGrom's caddy. -> DeGrom looks like he can use a good caddy again. So, is there any reason not to end the silly Mes-Mets lovers' spat and give Devin a shot as Ramos' backup?

=Fman99 post_id=8061 time=1556107617 user_id=86] Any interest in a CPF meetup on Sat, August 3rd in Pittsburgh? My wife and daughter are camping all weekend with the Girl Scouts, so I was thinking my son and I might drive out for that game (it's a 7 PM start, fireworks night). I have heard only great things about that stadium and Fboy has never been to a Mets road game before.

In an Alonso-less world we'd be talking about Smith as this year's ROY. We need to find a spot for him in the lineup until he proves that he's last year's Smith and not the one we'd been counting on when he was coming up through the minors. Somewhere. I don't care if we sit Rosario and put Smith at short. OK. Maybe that's a little extreme. But put him in left for sure. Unless he's Murph-level bad, I'd much rather see an OF of Smitty-Nimmo-Conforto than anything involving Brox or Lagares, at least against righties. My eyeball metric has always had Nimmo as a decent CF.

Maybe in a walk year. But if you're JdG and you're set for five years, you'd want to deal with possible injuries sooner rather than later.

I've spent way too much of the spring on airplanes and in hotel rooms already, so I'm figuring to stay around Cleveland for the next few weeks and take advantage of district tickets (general admission and a free beer for $15, natch). At the very least, though, I'm planning to come back to NYC to root for the Tribe against the MFYs on 8/18 and then root for the Mets against the Tribe on 8/20.

=smg58 post_id=7830 time=1555855554 user_id=62] So are MRIs that expensive to billionaires that have a nine-figure investment they might want to protect? If you were that concerned the other day, just do it. If it tells you what you already think you know, then what harm was done?

Why would we want to pick up a guy in the eighth year of the contract now known as the "Phillie Folly", since he's 33 and hasn't had an OPS above .750 since 2018?

I've completely assimilated JD Davis and Keon Broxton, because they were never really big names anyplace else. Pete Alonso is still Peter and still a hot prospect. Canó is a Yankee who is wearing blue and orange for some weird reason (unlike Granderson, who was a Met the day he showed up in Queens). There are no middle relievers on the team yet. Drew Wilson? Justin Peterson? Vaguely familiar names. I think they're in Binghamton.
  17. Chad ochoseis
    Nice glove there by Cano.
  18. Chad ochoseis
    Relax up there, Pete.

Fudge. Bad luck more than bad baserunning.
  20. Chad ochoseis
Odorizzi looking very beatable all of a sudden.

Everyone who bet that DeGrom gets knocked out after three and Nimmo homers, collect your winnings now.

Lefty Specialist wrote: This bullpen is not as good as advertised. This team is 5-1, but it's an ugly 5-1. Diaz and Familia are as good as it gets so far. The rest of them, well, middle relievers are still largely interchangeable parts. If the biggest worries on this team are Lugo, Gsellman, Avilas, and Wilson, I'll sign up for that.

=Ceetar post_id=6079 time=1554237286 user_id=102] Well Nimmo is leading off playing LF, so he's not eligible to pinch hit.

Edgy MD wrote: Which means he's got to flip the script, and put thwacking the ball ahead of being the cagey on-base guy for a bit. From the few at-bats I've seen, it looks like he's taken this advice too much to heart. He's chasing after crap pitches with weak swings. Very un-Nimmo like. But, yeah...two hits tonight when he pinch hits for Vargas leading off the eighth and we bat around and score five. Vargas is in the middle of a shutout, but he's thrown 102 pitches and Mickey doesn't want to push him too hard in his first appearance. You heard it here first.

And the Phanatic wore sneakers with Bryce Harper's image. Credit where due. It was a cute idea. I'm in the phase where I miss baseball enough to load up on MLB.tv. I watched bits and pieces of the Braves-Phils and rooted for them both to lose. Didn't happen. In the AL Central, the odds-on favorite Tribe has scored two runs in 18 innings, one on a Hanley Ramirez home run and the other on a single, two wild pitches, and a sac fly. Corey Kluber may become this year's Jacob DeGrom.
