  2. Acuna did not swing. Fucking bullshit umps.
  3. Someone tell homeplate blue that the Dodgers don't need extra calls five inches off the plate. My god.
  4. Mets: You're right CF! He has no business batting 5th! We'll bat him 2nd! Updated Lineup 1. Lindor SS 2. Marte DH 3. Soto RF 4. Alonso 1B 5. Nimmo LF 6. Taylor CF 7. Alvarez C 8. Baty 3B 9. Acuna 2B Vientos scratched for "precautionary reasons".
  5. Starling Marte has a .667 OPS over his last three years. 804 PA. He hasn't been good since 2022, and is 36 years old. He really shouldn't be playing regularly, and he certainly shouldn't be hitting 5th.
  6. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=193463 time=1747973851 user_id=68] Batting with RISP is a junk stat. First off, it's not repeatable because clutch hitting is a myth, an old wive's tale. If players could turn it on at will, they'd bat .700 and hit 150 HRs a year. But we've been through this. RISP is also a junk stat because mainly, there's no correlation between RISP and team wins or team runs. In fact, the teams that leave the most runners on base tend to be the best teams because if nothing else, high LOB rates demonstrate an ability to get men on base. A baserunner is not likely to score and this is the most normal thing about baseball: Don't expect your baserunners to come around and score; don't have a shitfit everytime that runner is stranded on second base. The best hitters, the MVP and all-star caliber players, the Hall of Fame bound hitters at their very peak, the batters that strike the most fear into an opposing pitcher's heart are going to make an out about 60% of the time. And then it gets worse as the quality of the hitter decreases.
  7. =kcmets post_id=193452 time=1747938472 user_id=53] I was just sorting the Team RISP for a minute, I know that can be scary, and the Mets have the 7th worst OPS in the NL. The Dodgers are best and their OPS is a whopping .272 points higher. Can one say that considering the two teams have the 'same' record that the Mets are pretty damn lucky so far?
  8. Edgy MD wrote: The offensive drought is real, but I thought the "they" in "What if they all suck" referred specifically to players still in development — young players in their options years and prospects in the high minors. Yes. I've admittedly shifted the definition of "they" with my most recent posts. As for the young guys. Jett Williams. Not sucking in AA. .905 OPS. 4 HR, 139 PA. Drew Gilbert. A/AAA. .808 OPS. 4 HR, 144 PA. Ronny Mauricio. A/AA/AAA. .784 OPS, 2 HR. 47 PA. But has been on fire during his first 3 games at Syracuse. Brandon Sproat. AAA. 6.69 ERA. 1.431 WHIP. Kinda sucky.
  9. The under .700 OPS club now includes 7 players regularly starting. 1. Brett Baty .692 2. Mark Vientos .674 3. Brandon Nimmo .674 4. Francisco Alvarez .661 5. Tyrone Taylor .657 6. Luisangel Acuna .642 7. Starling Marte .628 911 plate appearances.
  10. Lefty Specialist wrote: That being said, Soto's going to start hearing boos. And the boos are going to get louder unless he plays better and harder. Lindor heard them. Beltran heard them. Hell, even Piazza heard them. So buckle up and buckle down, Juan. Embarrassing. Mets fans suck.
  11. I didn't think the hitting could get worse.
  12. My thinking is this. Jose Siri plays regularly. He was the larger half of the centerfield platoon. Is your point that Jose Siri hasn't played regularly after breaking his leg? Then sure. We agree on that. Siri is one of six players who were expected to be starters or platoon starters, who have performed miserably over the first 48 games of the season. That sample size is 741 plate appearances collectively. And I argue, that 741 plate appearances is a fairly significant sample size. If you think Jose Siri should be left out of this discussion because his contribution of 24 PAs is too insignificant to be part of that discussion, then I don't know that I'd fight you vehemently on that. I think you throw his stats in with the others, but I can also understand leaving them out.
  13. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=193267 time=1747770673 user_id=68] =Centerfield post_id=193257 time=1747764653 user_id=65] The rest of the guys have been awful. None of these losers have an OPS above .700: Nimmo, Vientos, Taylor, Marte, Acuna, and Siri. And they all play fairly regularly. 741 plate appearances between the six of them.
  14. Or put another way, the David Stearns challenge game. Last winter, Mets fans were like "Hey, let's take a flyer on Walker Buehler". And Stearns was like "No bitches. You'll get Clay Holmes and Frankie Montas and Griffin Canning and you'll fucking love it." Montas has been hurt. But Holmes and Canning have been excellent. Tonight's matchup: Buehler. 6 Starts. 4-1. 4.28 ERA. 1.22 WHIP. Missed time with shoulder bursitis. Holmes. 9 Starts. 5-2. 3.14 ERA. 1.25 WHIP.
  15. So at the 48 game mark, there is a legitimate chance that they do, in fact, all suck. Or most of them anyway. There are four Mets position players performing at or better than expectations. Alonso (.964 OPS), McNeil (.852), Lindor (.810) and Luis Torrens (.747). Every other hitter is performing below expectations. Soto doesn't suck. But an .815 OPS is more than a 100 points less than we were hoping for. Winker wasn't terrible, but his .738 OPS is less than we were hoping for. Alvarez and Baty round out the "not terrible but not good" crew with OPS of .703 and 702 respectively. The rest of the guys have been awful. None of these losers have an OPS above .700: Nimmo, Vientos, Taylor, Marte, Acuna, and Siri. And they all play fairly regularly. 741 plate appearances between the six of them.
  16. This is a real prolonged suck. Reminds me of May 2024.
  17. Terrible call. Especially given the one Senga didn't get.
  18. Baty completely cold again. Will never understand sitting guys when they get hot.
  19. These games are painful to watch.
  20. That would be a huge lift if he's healthy and effective. I'm getting way ahead of myself here. But I feel like a huge part of how we do in October will depend on the performance of our left-handed reliever.
  21. If Rose never gambled on baseball, he would've been a first ballot inductee. The "rape" or "pedophilia" would've then occurred while Rose was already in the Hall. Then what? Then nothing. The crime was discovered after the induction. It sucks that there's a rapist in the HOF, but you can't really undo something that was already been done. That's a completely different story than honoring a guy after you're aware of the crime. Kevin Spacey has an Academy Award. You can't take away the award, even though we found out later he's a pedophile. But you don't learn that he preyed on minor boys, then advocate that he should be further honored. And I don't understand "rape" and "pedophilia" being in quotes. Having sex with 14 year old girls is rape. In fact, statutory rape. And if your only defense is "I thought she was 16", then that's about as clear cut as it gets. You think Rose will get inducted? The voters have still kept Bonds and Clemens out of the Hall. And, as I see it, both Bonds and Clemens had better careers than Rose. And their "transgressions" were not as serious as Rose's. I don't think Rose will get inducted. But with the crazy state of the world, I have no idea what will happen anymore. My issue is not whether or not he gets inducted. It's fucking batshit crazy that there's even a discussion. Pete Rose was a married man in his 30's who preyed on teenage girls. His best defense. The scenario where he looks the best as he possibly can, is one where he legitimately thought the girls were 16 and not 14. He's a fucking scumbag among scumbags. The fact that anyone talks about his gambling as his crime is crazy to me. This fucked up world where claims of pedophilia fly left and right, and actual pedophiles get large groups of people advocating that they be exalted.
  22. If we don't get great starting pitching, we have no chance.
