  1. The Astros employ Clemens. Go Sox. How funny is it that so many ex-Yank pitchers are in this series? How pissed would we be if Game 1 featured Al Leiter vs. Pedro Astacio? With Matt Ginter and Scott Erickson* also set to pitch? *The funny thing was, despite all the pitchers we've adquired over the past few years, other than Leiter, I couldn't think of a single starter we had let go. I actually had to look up the rotations on Yancy's page to get Astacio and Ginter. Amazing how soon we forget. I mean, when's that last time you thought about Raul Gonzalez. Remember when we wondered if he might be good enough to play everyday? And with Erickson, I don't have any memory of his ever being on the Mets. I'm not sure this even happened.
  2. Let's wipe the slate clean...let's get another guy in here. More blown saves seem a small price to pay... There you have it. Braden Looper...all my fault. Sorry guys.
  3. I liked the LA Woman Mets of 1999. And for the record, any team that uses Journey as a theme song deserves to lose.
  4. NO. Even if the same exact situation presented itself in Game 6, I would pitch to Pujols again. I would just, you know, try to pitch to him better.
  5. The nominations are in for worst advice ever: spursfan2020: guys, i dont wanna screw this up.. should i keep on my rally cap? CjW 2k5: Take it off Spursfan. Save that mojo for the World Series!!!! CjW was tempting the fates all throughout the thread...posting pics of champagne, numerous references to "Lights Out Lidge". If he were here, he would be banned by now.
  6. One thing I wanted to say about this series, was that I was impressed by the Angels fans for not booing Guerrero. After each groundout, I was waiting for them to come raining down. Good for the Angels fans. Maybe some of us can learn something from this...
  7. The amazing thing about that was how the park when silent before Pujols' HR. Amazing. One of the greatest baseball moments I've ever seen.
  8. People complain more because the baseline play occurred in Game 5 where the Yanks were threatening to come back. The second base play resulted in tack-on runs in a game most MFY fans had written off as a loss. Of course, you're absolutely right...and that play at second base was by far the more questionable call. I mean, considering the "neighborhood" standard normally applied around second base (esp. on DP's where there is actually an advantage to be gained) it's that much more surprising. But to recognize that, MFY fans would need to be intelligent and, well.... This is what's so cool about baseball. I've been watching this game for 20+ years...and in the span of a month or two, I've seen three plays (the Cameron transfer ruled no catch, the Cano 2nd base play, and the Pierzynski/Paul 3rd Strike) that I have never seen before.
  9. Doug Eddings, the ALCS umpire, regrets not making a stronger call. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2190652 I don't know if anyone saw the interview, but Eddings seems like a genuinely nice guy....certainly nicer than the director of umpiring or whatever bigwig that was sitting out there with him. I feel bad for the guy...and I say it's about time MLB requires umps to signal or call "No Catch".
  10. Seawolf. Just noticed the profile pic. LOL.
  11. Good point. Paul flipped the ball back immediately and trotted off. I think the rest of the Angels took their cue from Paul. There's blame to be had on both sides...Eddings for the confusing call/signals and Paul for not making doubly-triply sure. On anything close, I've noticed that Piazza holds up his glove waiting for confirmation from the ump. If Paul had done that, all of this could have been avoided. I think maybe we need a rule change where we have a signal/call where the ump rules strike three but it is VERY CLEAR that the batter is not out.
  12. Holy crap. Never knew that. Thanks FK.
  13. Hey Chien-Ming. Your partners Crockett and Tubbs have been looking everywhere for you.
  14. Ticket sales? Since when do the fans matter?
  15. I had a similar idea for a post after watching last night's game. I hope you guys won't mind the repetitive nature of it: 2001 Yankees.....110 million dollars 2002 Yankees.....140 million dollars 2003 Yankees....170 million dollars 2004 Yankees...185 million dollars 2005 Yankees...208 million dollars Five years, $813 million dollars, zero World Championships....priceless. There are some things money can't buy. But that doesn't stop some people from wasting hundreds of millions trying.
  16. I like 2©. Let's face it, in some games there just aren't 10 points to be given out. I don't like the idea of giving someone 3 points just because he pitched a scoreless inning in mop-up duty of a 10-0 loss. To Edgy: Stop poking me.
  17. Me last night when the Astros were batting against Smoltz in the first inning: "Go Astros!" Me last night five minutes later when I realized Clemens was pitching: "Fuck! Never mind...forget what I said before...Go Braves!"
  18. I agree with Elster. Boo Willets Point! Boo!
  19. Of course the Mets would screw it up and sign Terrence Hatcher. Stupid Mets.
  20. Epstein said after the game that Buckner never crossed his mind. Not once. Epstein is a friggin' liar. I was surprised to see Iguchi had hit 15 hr's this year for the Sox. I feel like he actually became what we were hoping Matsui would be. We got the wrong Japanese.
  21. I watched the games. I remember thinking what a shame it was that so many kids were missing Fonzie's grand slam.
  22. What about Bob? BRaissman@edit.nydailynews.com
  23. Thank you Yancy. Whether we do this or not next year will probably come down to whether you agree to go through all this work again. I, for one, hope you will. I'm sorry I didn't vote much in games that made me want to spit. I'll do better next year. That's going to be one of my resolutions for 2006.
  24. 6-2 now as the BoSox attempt to make a game of it.
  25. If every inning were equal, you'd want your top five pitchers to eat up as many of them as possible. Every starter pitches at least twice as many innings as a closer. Gotta go with number 6.
