  1. If all they're asking for is Anderson Hernandez, I can't sign fast enough. Hell, I'll throw in Keppinger too so Buster Olney can accuse me of overpaying. On Edit: (Link to now moot article removed)
  2. According to the article, to clear salary for Manny.
  3. I like rumors. I don't like when rumors are reported as facts or relied upon later for criticism along the lines of "Well we could have had [big star] for Heilman last winter and we didn't pull the trigger!"
  4. The News says this deal is not likely: Although there were preliminary conversations between the Mets and Orioles about a deal that would send Benson to Baltimore for reliever Jorge Julio, it now appears several other teams could offer a more attractive package in exchange for the Mets righthander, and Minaya is expected to gauge his best move next week.
  5. By the way, I just want to point out that the title of the thread makes it seem the deal is far more likely than the headline of the article. And the headline of the article probably makes the deal seem more likely than it really is.
  6. That's weird that Wagner, a lefty, would wear his watch on his left wrist.
  7. I just wanted to say that since I am against including Heilman in a trade for Manny, I also think trading Heilman for Toby Hall is not such a good idea.
  8. It's almost 3 p.m. How come we haven't signed a player today?
  9. Holy crap! The Mets are interested in Manny?
  10. Fantastic 62.
  11. Sorry. I was going with the guys from the 25-Man thread. Fortunado, along with Yates, are due back from injury I believe. I have no idea what the deal with Royce Ring is.
  12. Valadius wrote: Should we keep this going as a Bullpen - 2006 thread or let it die now that the need's been addressed? I done started another thread already.
  13. With Wagner in place, I have these guys making up the remainder of the pen: Heilman Shades Takatsu Zambrano (technically) Bell Hamulack We need a LOOGY, and it would be nice to have an 8th inning guy leading to Wagner in the ninth, but if we went to war today, I could live with this. Do we bring back Looper? How about Bert? Is this the season age catches up to him?
  14. Wow.
  15. Ichiro's play reminded me of Ozzie Smith's catch where he reached out with his barehand when the ball took a funny bounce. Ichiro climbed the wall, realized the ball was coming at an odd angle, and adjusted. Simply amazing. Edgy is absolutely right, it's one thing to dive into the stands...it's another thing to adjust in the middle of what already would have been a spectacular play.
  16. Yancy: I guess it wasn't "street Spanish." The Sharks think Delgado is a major sellout.
  17. http://www.mbtn.net/rey/
  18. Wow...great analysis Rotty.
  19. Of course, I want it to be understood that no endorsement of this deal that I give in this or any other thread should be construed as some sort of relinquishment of my right to bitch and moan should Delgado suck next year. If Carlos sucks, I knew this would happen and this is why you don't throw away good young prospects for expensive, aging DH-types.
  20. I think his point is that unlike Benny, Jacobs' late season success has less of a chance to be a fluke since there is some history for it...whereas Benny's power surge seemingly came from nowhere. Again, I distinguish guys like Jacobs from other "prospects" simply because he was able to have some success at the major league level, albeit for a short time. I'm sad to see him go because he had such a fluid swing, the ball jumped off his bat, and because he was such a likeable player. In other words, he looked like he was going to be a star. But I still stand behind this deal because in the best case scenario where everything breaks right, Jacobs would be Carlos Delgado, and with an aging staff, I'll take the sure thing over the promising young guy.
  21. I wonder how Oprah feels about people with no talent like Tyra Banks getting their own talk show. Does she feel like it makes her look better in comparison? Or does she get insulted that people like Tyra think her job is so easy that she could do it. I think Oprah should model the next Victoria's Secret catalog just to make a point. (Yes, I am condoning lingerie pics of Oprah Winfrey)
  22. We have a few changes to the lineup. Cameron moves to San Diego, and Jacobs is out, replaced by Carlos Delgado. 1) Reyes, ss 2) Beltran, cf 3) Wright, 3b 4) Delgado, 1b 5) Floyd, lf 6) Diaz, rf 7) Castro, c 8) Matsui, 2b 9) Martinez, p
  23. Who do we have left to trade for Castillo? Anderson Hernandez? Keppinger? I like Castillo a lot...he's only 30 and gets on base all the freakin' time, but if Omar even thinks about moving some of our pitching for Castillo I'll...I'll be really angry and huff around for a while.
