  1. Ok fine. I had one good day. June 16, 2008. It was against the LA Angels. The Angels are my bitch. I doubled off of Jerod Weaver in the second and came around to score on Schneider's single. A seventh inning rally made it 7-3, but the Angels scored 3 in the bottom of the frame to close to within two. We tacked one on in the ninth and won 9-6.
  2. I'm Marlon Anderson. I did not have a good day in 2008. I now turn things over to Tony Armas Jr.
  3. Mike Francesa and all the other Yankee fans would want nothing more than the Mets to trade Reyes and Wright. Or to at least label them "non-clutch".

Next year's payroll stands at $94 million for the following players: Santana Pelfrey Wagner Schoeneweis Schneider Castro Delgado Castillo Wright Reyes Beltran Chavez Anderson You can figure another ~$7-10 million will go to the players who are still under the Mets control, whether through renewal, arbitration, or contract to avoid arbtration: Maine Niese Feliciano Heilman Sanchez Smith Church Murphy That would put us at $100-$105 million. If they keep the budget they have this year, that's $27 million dollars to find 1-2 starters, a reliever, and left fielder. Plus a backup infelder, perhaps. I would hope that next year's budget would go beyond that, new stadium and all.

CF, what is this "World Series" you speak of and what does it signify? I can find no evidence that the team Johan Santana pitches for has any connection to such an event. Don't worry about it. It's only for teams with a bullpen.

  7. The drawback from these swing and miss guys is that they're less likely to drive a run in from third with one out, but on the plus side, he's much more likely than the average guy to drive in the runner from first with two outs. Some interesting stats on Dunn. We rave about Delgado's MVP-type year (.871 OPS). Dunn beats him in OPS (.898). Dunn also beats Beltran (.876) as well as Ryan Howard (.881). Of all Mets, only David Wright has the edge on him OPS-wise (.924), and David does this by outslugging him. David has fewer HR's but nearly twice as many doubles. ON EDIT: Of course, you have to adjust for park with these numbers, which I don't know how to do, but just being in the mix with our three best players should mean something.
  8. Oh they're playing Philly? I want to change my answer to: Go Brewers, then Fuck You Brewers.
  9. Left Field (along with a starting pitcher if Oliver Perez bolts) is one of the two spots the Mets must absolutely attend to this off-season. I have doubts that Delgado will repeat the success he had this year, and this position is probably our best chance of getting a middle-of-the-order guy. I guess a good place to begin is the free agent crop: Bobby Abreu NYY Moises Alou NYM Garret Anderson* LAA Rocco Baldelli TB Willie Bloomquist SEA Emil Brown OAK Pat Burrell PHI Endy Chavez NYM Adam Dunn ARI Jim Edmonds CHC Cliff Floyd TB Brian Giles* SD Ken Griffey Jr.* CWS Vladimir Guerrero* LAA Raul Ibanez SEA Mark Kotsay ATL Jason Michaels* PIT Greg Norton ATL Jay Payton BAL Scott Podsednik COL Manny Ramirez LAD Juan Rivera LAA (*denotes an option) With the Angels likely to pick up Vlad's option, Manny is obviously the cream of this crop, but he is looking for a multi-year deal at 37.
  10. Fuck you Brewers.
  11. I would add Pelfrey to that list as well.
  12. Kevin Burkhardt reporting that Johan's testicles weigh 40 lbs. each.
  13. I hope Johan gets a good night's sleep tonight and comes ready to pitch tomorrow. (I'm kidding, not even to save this season would I risk that arm.)
  14. Dear Kosuke Fukudome, I apologize for calling you an overrated-suckass-only-got-the-All-Star-nod-over-Beltran-because-of-the-novelty-factor-and-the-fact-you-play-for-the-Cubs-ugly-swinging-loser. I realize now you deserved that place on the All-Star team 100%. In fact, I think the Daily News headline tomorrow should be: FUKUN LUCKY!
  15. I think Gary was right. With Beltran representing the go-ahead run, I thought the Cubs centerfielder was thinking second base all the way.
  16. Did he fuck up the sign to Murphy last night? Or did the kid miss it? If the bunt was off and he kept trying at it, why not go down and just tell him? Nifty slide by Church, but if not for that, he was going to be out by fifty feet. Plus he should have sent Delgado last night. In both cases, it ended up not hurting us, but is it too late to fire coaches? Can Sandy step in for the last series? Can we borrow Manny Acta for a weekend?
  17. ="Frayed Knot"]]David Wright's inability to hit a fly ball last night in the ninth inning has pretty much cost the Mets 17.5 playoff points It cost us a lot more than that considering that a win would have gained us a number of pct points over where we started the day. Add those to the 17 we lost and it's probably closer to double that. To be fair, it's not all on David Wright. Ryan Church blew last night too. Meaning that's only 8.5% points a piece.
  18. marathon, You're distorting what he meant and you know it. Hank meant that the playoff system should be adjusted each season to ensure the Yankees are in them regardless of their regular season record.
  19. I'm ok with Wayne. Not great, a lot better than some of the jokers I hear on XM calling other games. Obviously no one will be Murph, and the Cohen-Rose dynamic was too good to think we can replicate it again. So I can deal with Wayne until we find a way to clone Gary.
  20. Not that this is like anywhere near timely now, but I just wanted to throw my two cents in about how nice it is to have an ace. Remember when we debated whether Leiter was an ace? Santana is a fucking ace. Leiter was just the best pitcher we had.
  21. Six games left and the Mets have a slim lead on a playoff spot. I promise to be optimistic tonight, though it may not last long unless this team starts winning.
  22. Not a lot of interest in this thread.
  23. Santana 5 Church 1 Reyes 1 Murphy 1 Schneider 1 Beltran 1
  24. Martinez 2 Schoeneweis 1 Wright 1
  25. Pelfrey 2 Wright 2 Delgado 1 Rincon .5
