  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: On May 31, Steven Matz had a chance to lock down his first Schaefer Player (and Pitcher) of the Month award. When he took the mound in the top of the 6th, he had thrown five scoreless innings and looked to be on his way to earning between 3 and 5 Schaefer points, if not more. But things unraveled, and Matz had to settle for 1.97 points. That would have been enough to clinch the title for May, except that Noah Syndergaard had a rare relief appearance during that final game of the month, and scoreless inning earned him 0.69 points, enough to put him over the top with just a little to spare. And so Steven Matz continues to trail Alay Soler by 1.
  3. In light of the Wright news. Assuming Duda will be back at the end of July, that's 6 more weeks of baseball to bridge. Loney started off nice, but has come down to a sub .700 OPS. My plan would be: 1B: Wilmer (and Loney spell him) 2B: Herrera 3B: Walker SS: Cabrera C: TdA and Rivera. KJ around as super-sub. If Conforto can get healthy and squared away, that should be enough to get it done.
  4. Per twitter. Timetable TBD.
  5. That's interesting to know. I agree. I have never seen Wilmer hit a ball the other way with authority, but I always figured it was about mindset, and not anything mechanically. I noticed during his hot streak in 2014 that all of his HR's are hit to LF. In about the same place too.
  6. Couple of random thoughts: 1. Loved Curtis Granderson's opposite field hit. I think it was my favorite of the night. 2. I would not want to try to catch Yoenis Cespedes's line drives. I think it would scare the shit out of me. I've always felt LF was harder to play than CF, and Starling Marte demonstrated that last night. That screaming sinking line drive was fucking crazy. Kudos to him for making a dive when every instinct I have would be to run away. 3. Can we just stop using Familia with big leads? I feel like every time this happens we hear "And now you have to be concerned about his pitch count. Terry wanted him to get work, but he's getting more than he bargained for..."
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: The problem with Wilmer's swing is that he's never going to hit with any authority to the opposite field. Pokes and the odd piece o' luck are great, but that's about all he's going to get in that direction. How can you tell that? Something about his swing?
  8. I keep looking for him every time they say "Jaso".
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Way to go the other way tonight, FWilmer. Can I say what a thing of beauty it was to watch these opposite field hits? I know it's not as easy as some would make it seem, but man, take the ball the other way boys. You'll score 11 runs every game.
  10. Lagares scratched. Thumb. Walker likely not available.
  11. Um. 2/3 of the Mets lineup yesterday combined for 5 HR's on the year.
  12. Five HR's? For the year? Dilson hit 8 HR's in just the month of May alone. What loser hits 5 HR's for the year?
  13. Hey Dilson, .372 over your last ten? How adorable. Try .459 bitches! And my OPS in June? 1.350. If anyone should be getting the call, it's me!
  14. Hey guys. Just checking in. Ya know, just keeping it real over here in the big LV. Couldn't help but notice that your second baseman is now hurt. Been hurt for a couple of days. Probably not in the lineup tonight. Just wondering if we're still sticking to that "Position changes are very hard" line of thinking. Also read that David might opt for neck surgery which might end his season. Was also wondering if that might change your thinking on what to do with Walker after he gets back. Anyway, I'll just be here. Hitting .372 over my last 10. OPS-ing 1.036 in June. I'm sure you guys are fine offensively, but you know, if you need something, I'm just a short phone call away.
  15. He's only 23. Was hurt last year. Maybe he's just coming into his own? I'd be down with giving him a shot. Like FK says. Seven weeks. Mike, go down to LV. Get some strippers and some blow and come back refreshed.
  16. More encouraging news on Juan. Gaining strength in his hand, hopes to swing a bat in a few days. https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/juan-lagares-is-gaining-strength-hopes-to-swing-a-bat-soon/183048162 This is good. Hopefully he gets there soon. There should be some sort of list where a team can put players that are hurt on the side and call up someone to take their place so that they don't have to play a man down. Maybe they can propose something like this at the next CBA.
  17. But that's the thing, these injuries were absolutely foreseeable, and that's why you get him. And it's not true that we wouldn't have wanted those results so far. They're not very good, but they're better than the ones we got (from Campbell) by 70 points in OPS!
  18. Hopefully. I remember advocating for Kelly Johnson's return last winter. Would have been nice to just re-sign him and keep our Akeel.
  19. Certainly seems like the Mets have been unlucky. But even if you adjust for luck, where would they fall? 25? 24? That's still not good. And we are in June so this is not a small sample size. I keep wondering about this BABIP. We keep saying it has to get better and that we are unlucky. But we also have 2 hitters (Granderson and Conforto) that are completely incapable of doing anything but pull the ball. So if all of the infielders are on one side, and the hitter keeps hitting to that side, then we should expect the BABIP to remain low, no? (At least for those 2 guys anyway)
  20. It seems impossible but the offense is as bad as it was in the first part of 2015 again. As of today, the Mets are 28th out of 30 teams in runs scored. Everything was fine in April (they were 10th) but since May they have scored fewer runs than Atlanta. I remember looking at the Mets numbers with RISP and thinking this can't possibly go on. And I was absolutely right. Eventually they stopped putting runners in scoring position. Sure, there are injuries, but even with that it seems like we should be better than 28th. Looking at the stats, Cespedes and Walker are actually having good years. Conforto, I know, has been slumping, but overall he's got an OPS of .778 and that's not terrible. Loney, in a short time, has been better than expected. The obvious culprit is the catcher position, 3 guys with sub .600 OPS. Cabrera, after starting hot, has cooled significantly and has a .689 OPS. And Curtis Granderson is hitting .204 in June. Lost more than 100 pts off of his 2015 OPS. The problem is you can't really upgrade the catcher, because you can't block d'Arnaud. You can't trade for a 3B, because we expect Wright to come back. And Lucas, you have to figure, will be close to 100% when healed. I don't know. I'm out of ideas. I campaigned for Dilson, but Flores is hitting well since he's gotten the starting role.
  21. What a fucking steaming pile of horseshit of a game. At least we have Campbell for game 2.
  22. OMG you assholes. Are you seriously getting shut out by Jon Fucking Niese? Score some runs you dickheads.
  23. And your 26th man for game 2 of the DH is...Eric Campbell.
