  1. Again, where the fuck is Terry? Don't let the challenge happen. The glove came off. Fucking unbelievable.
  2. Meatloaf is an absolute gold mine when it comes to lyrics. And maybe you can cry all night But that'll never change the way I feel The snow is really piling up outside I wish you wouldn't make me leave here So he tells the girl he doesn't love her. Then tells her that her incessant whining isn't going to change anything. Then he plops down on her couch to watch TV and says "Wait, you want me to leave? Look at the fucking snow!"
  3. (Btw, one need look no further than this thread to remember that the word "fan" derives from "fanatic". Wow, we are all fucking nuts.)
  4. Hitting .512 over his last 10, with 4 HR's. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?player_id=624424#/career/R/hitting/2016/ALL Call him up. Stick him in CF. Let's go on our run.

But, again, KC started so much further back, so far back that this 9-straight/13-of-16 run of theirs was needed just to bring them up to where we are now coming off a 6-8 stretch over the past two weeks. Put another way, the Royals need to essentially duplicate what they've just done over the last few weeks to really jump into the thick of the race, we just need to do it once (and not shit the bed during the 'non-streak' games). Tough, but possible. Gotta at least split these last two. And if by chance somehow they sweep the Cards...

  7. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: No. No, he won't. Oh come on. He's only mostly dead. Lucas Dudas season could be finished, after a flare up in his lower back last week necessitated a shutdown in his rehab from a stress fracture. The Mets first baseman was subsequently examined by Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles and told to rest for another 30 days. That article was written August 3. 30 days makes September 2. Since I'm realistic, I'll give him Labor Day weekend to BBQ and rest too. That takes us to Sept. 6 when he resumes baseball activities. September 13 he starts rehab games as a DH. By September 20 he's playing full games. Makes his return September 23. Leads us to the post-season. We go 12-0 in October.
  8. I can't remember enjoying a game this much. Got on the board early, responded even after St. Louis tied it. Every time they scored we had an answer. Good defense, strong bullpen work, hitting with scoring position, hitting the other way, hitting the other way with men in scoring position. It was like the anti 2016 Mets. Our ace takes the mound tonight with a chance to pull to 2.5 games with over a month left. After the year we've had, I'll take that. Wonder if Duda can be ready for the post-season.
  9. You know, I would totally invest in Brian Company.
  10. Big one. We are in the wild card chase folks. If only for one night.
  11. Wow. Bruce looks lost. Come on Jeurys. Need this one.
  12. That was actually strike 5. Fuck this ump.
  13. Henderson? really? Why are we not going to Robles here? Don't agree with this move.
  14. I hate to belabor a point here but how is Collins not arguing that Cespedes strikeout? You have to create a fuss there. Ask for help. That was a key at bat. Fuck Terry.
  15. Gsellman has another 5 scoreless in him tonight. Hopefully that is the last we have seen of Jon Niese as a Met. I'm ready for Ynoa and Gsellman to take us to the playoffs.
  16. Mark my words. When we are all sharing a drink at the ticker tape parade, we will say to each other "I can't believe I'm saying this, but we would not be World Champions without Jonathon Niese." Run to the title starts tonight.
  17. Benjamin Grimm wrote: The "How Gaunt is Doc Today?" saga continues with another front page in the Daily News. I'm hoping that none of these ghastly covers ends up winning the 2016 Tabloid Cover Derby. I have a feeling that this year's Derby won't be very fun.
  18. 25-13 seems like a tall order for this team. I guess we'll find out a lot over these next 3 games.
  19. I mean, look at the unique set of circumstances required to make that happen: 1. Bench player gets hot 2. Rest of the lineup goes cold 3. Manager refuses to start said bench player
  20. Has a bench player ever won player of the Month before? No way right?
  21. Also, we walked by the Baseball Town Motel and shuddered.
  22. Thanks for all the recommendations guys. Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express* It's about 10 minutes from downtown. New and clean, very nice staff. Free breakfast! Friday night we went to Ommegang Brewery**. Drank the Rare Vos and the Nirvana (IPA). My dad liked the Rare Vos. Saturday we spent the whole day at the HoF and Museum (did not realize these are technically two different entities), then hit the batting cages downtown. Afterwards we walked over to Doubleday Field.*** It was pretty cool. A bunch of Expos fans were playing a group of Baltimore fans. So funny. They hate the Nats. While they warmed up they let Ryan and I play catch on the field. Dinner was at Bocca Osteria. Italian place. I think this is the best food we had in town. Full bar. On Sunday, I took my parents golfing at Otesaga Hotel**** Super-pricey but it was a beautiful course. Be prepared to lose lots of balls on hole 18. Lunch was at Mel's at 22. Good sandwich place. Tater tots. Didn't get a chance to visit Council Rock, and wished we had time to check out Glimmerglass lake. The activities look fun. I think we'll go back in a few years when the kids are older and can appreciate some of the older exhibits at the Museum. *recommended by seawolf. **recommended by JCL, then seconded by LWFS and Lefty Specialist ***recommended by Lefty Specialist ****recommended by Ashie62
  23. Optimism reason # (whatever) That other 2015 WS team looked even more dead than we did in early August -- 7 games below .500 on Aug 5th, dropped to 4th place, as many as 11 games back in the AL Central -- and for many of the same reasons: lots of injuries, pitching not as good as in the past, etc. And while they're still a seemingly insurmountable 8 games back in the Central, their current 8-game winning streak* and 13 wins in their last 15 has them within 3.5 games of WC #2. Now of course we're currently just 1/4 of the way into a theoretical 8-game winning streak and even further from a 13-of-15-like run, but we're also not starting from as far behind as the Royals did and are essentially in the same spot that they're just now getting to. Grasping at straws? Sure, especially seeing as how they've shown no signs of being capable of anything like it recently, but it is a reminder of what a hot week or more can accomplish. * Runs allowed during their run: 4, 1, 1, 1, 1, 4, 0, 1 We don't even need 8 (though it certainly would be nice). Three straight wins against St. Louis would make things really interesting with plenty of time left in the season. Got Yo back. That helps. When is Jay Bruce due to arrive from Cincinnati? This is like the longest flight ever.
  24. They're also fucking stupid and lazy. Just saw the highlights. This team is an embarrassment. You have to fire the manager.
  25. Just ate at Ommegang. Thanks for the rec guys! And by "ate" I mean "drank".
