I can go on and on about the things I disagree with the Mets about. But this just boggles my mind. We are playing a tough division rival in a lost season. All we can hope for is that the young players develop. What are we doing pulling our young pitcher after 79 pitches the minute things get tough. So basically we are reinforcing the early hook. And then we bitch when the pitchers can’t go deep. This organization really outthinks themselves like all the fucking time.

The Mets record might have something to do with this feeling like a short break too.

This was laughable when posted. But it’s down to a much more attainable 49-15 now.

I listened to the podcast where Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman had Steve Cohen on. He basically said that if he fires Stearns this early into his tenure, he's afraid he will be labeled as reactionary and that can deter good talent from coming here in the future. I don't know if that's true, or if it's an excuse, but it sounds logical to me.

It’s his upside. That he has the profile of someone who could be a star. Unfortunately he just hasn’t lived up to it. I wonder how much of that is him and how much of this failure can be attributed to whatever bullshit philosophy has been instituted by this front office that fucked up everyone. I mean. Right now Bo Bichette looks like a failed prospect.

Of course. Where you are in terms of competing has to be a factor in any trade. Though is any team far from competing in this 12 team playoff format? I just think it’s silly to have an “untouchables” category. Every player can be moved for the right price. And I don’t mean to be critical of Andres. The phrase is tossed around a lot and I get what he means. But it bothers me because the term doesn’t mean what he intends. Maybe there are some untouchables. Rookie Wright, or Straw or Doc or even Pete Alonso might have been that for me. But a corner OF with a .729 OPS who’s projection is less than superstar is not someone in that conversation. Not for me.

To illustrate this. Brett Baty has a career OPS of .653. His best asset is his versatility. Luis Guillorme, a clearly superior defender, has a career OPS of .652. If you’re basing your decision on results only, you’d be foolish to keep Baty over Vientos.

As far as speed goes, it’s much harder to find a guy that will give you an .800 OPS against LHP than speed. So if you can find a guy that will do that, and he is cheap and under control that player is an asset. Good glove pinch runners are a dime a dozen. Baty still has upside. And the first round profile. Which is why we have hope for him. But if you’re looking at results only, you can find guys like Baty everywhere you look. Utility players that can’t hit.

And if everyone is available for the right price, it doesn't make sense to have an entire category of "Untouchables". If the Rays offer Junior Caminero are you really going to say "I'm sorry, Francisco Lindor is untouchable". Of course not. It's just degrees of value. As for Benge, like everyone else, I'm hoping he becomes great. And I'm encouraged by his progression. But he's not great yet, nor can we assume he will ever get there. Nick Markakis would be a great outcome for him. Benge's value, at this point, comes from the fact that he's young, controllable with upside. If an elite player becomes available, and Benge is the asking price, you have to listen. Do I want to trade him? Absolutely not. But if he's the centerpiece of a trade for a superstar, then you trade him for the right price. Preston Wilson for Mike Piazza. Carlos Gomez for Johan Santana.

Not nearly as bad as I would have guessed. I am certainly holding him to a different standard because of his build.

I don’t know. He seems freakishly slow. The problem is I can figure out if I’m biased against him because his frame suggests he should be faster. He’s a fit slim young athlete. How is it possible he’s so slow. Someone compared him to Wilmer. That makes sense. It’s like their feet don’t work right.

I would put every Met in the category “Go for the right price”. I don’t get Carson Benge being an untouchable. He’s promising yes, but he’s a corner OF with a .729 OPS. There are lots of players I’d trade for Carson Benge.

.779 career against LHP is good. Again, that number with power is a nice bat to have off your bench. Baty comes nothing close to that. (.686 and .537). And I get that Vientos does nothing well except hit LHP. He can’t run, he can’t field, he can’t even not waste challenges. But if you configure your bench well, you can carry him on a good team. I mean, having looked up horrible splits, I’m not sure Baty is preferable despite the defensive versatility. In my opinion, a good bench looks like this. 1. Backup C. 2. Backup OF. Preferably with speed so he can be your pinch runner. 3. Backup IF. Preferably with the ability to play SS. 4. Big bat off the bench. One of those guys has to give you a .750 OPS against RHP, another that gives you .750 OPS against LHP. And you hope your DH can play the field occasionally so you can give guys a day off from fielding.
  14. Centerfield
As far as the fielding. You’ll have four bench guys. One is your backup C. One is your fourth OF. That leaves two additional players. If one is your backup infielder, another can just be a bat. You also hope your DH is capable of putting on a glove and not just being a DH. Polanco fits that description. I think I’d be fine with Vientos and Baty being the primary RH and LH pinch hitters.
  15. Centerfield
He has an .855 OPS against lefties. Has enough power to hit a late game HR. There’s room on a good team for a bat like that.

It is an abomination. I don’t argue that at all. But part of the reason the Mets are so terrible is the inability to convert that free baserunner.
  17. Centerfield
In a different season this would’ve been a brutal loss. In 2026 it’s just another game.
  18. Centerfield
Thornton doesn’t have the best numbers at AAA. But maybe he can be a serviceable back end starter? Would help a lot toward next year.
  19. Centerfield
That’s not what I read. Throws 100. Good slider. Lacks command and other secondaries. The Mets are hoping to hone his command and add to the arsenal. The ceiling is front line starter. The floor being high leverage reliever. Of course you never know. But it’s nice to have upside. Of course for any of this to happen the Mets need to figure out how to stop ruining every pitcher in their organization.

    Holy shit that was pathetic.

Mets on Wednesday: WE ARE BRINGING THE HAMMER DOWN! Mets on Friday: WE HAVE PUT THE HAMMER AWAY. WITHOUT USING IT. MAYBE FOR GOOD.

I would love to have watched this game. I wonder if fans of minor league teams care about wins and losses like MLB fans. can you imagine if the Mets were on the verge of losing a game they led 16-0? (and yes I remember the game they got blown out 16-12 after leading 9-4)
  23. Centerfield
I get that we are disappointed in Mark. But a lefty masher who can play the corners in a pinch is a good guy to have on the team. I think you keep him for 2027 unless someone gives you something of value. I would not nontender or dump.
  24. Centerfield
    Impressive. All TTs accounted for!
  25. Centerfield
Tony Tarasco did indeed play for the Mets! And put up decent numbers. 1. 2. Tony Tarasco 3. Tyrone Taylor 4. Taylor Teagarden 5. Tim Teufel Ridiculous that Taylor Teagarden is guessed that quickly. But again, the guy who guessed him did run a site called Ultimate Mets Database.
