  1. I haven't been following the rotation enough but I can't understand why it was necessary to start Houser when we've recently added Scott and Megill to the rotation and haven't lost any starters. I get load management. But Houser is a walking L. It's depressing to be worse than the five games below .500 mark we were at to start the season. At this point the only hope for our offense is that Vientos keeps it up and we get some other help from the farm. For the guys that we have, this is what they are.
  2. Didn't watch the game but it seems like they put up more of a fight. But still lost. Every day just enough to lose.

And I could be talked into keeping a hitter or two as well. I think overall I am on board with Stearns' big picture plan. But I find this year's team to be one of the most frustrating teams to watch. And we've had some bad teams in recent history. It's more than just being bad. It's that: 1. Our pitchers walk everyone. League leading 207. 16 more walks than second place. It's a stupid number of walks. 2. Which leads to a staff ranked 23rd in WHIP. Basically, tons of baserunners for the opposition. 3. On the other hand, our guys don't walk. (147th. Tied for 19th) 4. Don't really get on base (18th in MLB) 5. And aren't really good at hitting in general (23rd in OPS) 6. Also, we don't field so good (21st in Fielding %) Overall, a very bad team.

Yeah, don't fire them pitchers. The Mets are 14th in MLB in team ERA. Which I guess is technically above average, but not great. If you look at WHIP, they drop down to 22nd. Which might suggest that we've been a little lucky that the opposition hasn't scored more than they have.
  5. The bats better show up tonight if we're going to have any chance.
  6. Fire everyone. What a shit season.
  7. Switching to Knicks Pacers. Enough misery for one night.
  8. I say we give him a bat and see what we got. Can't be worse than what's out there.
  9. Christian Scott vs. Jesus Luzardo. Luzardo hasn't been great this year (0-3, 5.97 ERA) but has been ok in the past. His WHIP is 1.33, which is not terrible. Similar to Manaea. Better than Quintana. The high ERA comes from two bad starts against the Braves and Yankees. He's given up 2 ER three times and 3 ER once in his other four starts. Odds that he will pitch a no-hitter tonight. About 50/50.
  10. I don't remember if I voted in this poll, but if it were late in the offseason, I would have guessed third. I'd still guess third now. I think they'll eventually overtake Washington. I know the Mets may well benefit from the third WC team, but I still think it was a stupid idea to add it. A .500 team should never make the playoffs.
  11. Blow up the team. Whatever. I can't take watching this anymore.
  12. Bad throw costs us a run. Walk leads to another one. Anemic offense. It's the same thing every night.
  13. To FK's point. If they needed Tuesday to be a day game because the teams were traveling all the way to Philadelphia, why is today not a day game when the Mets need to trek to Miami? Not that I want this to be a day game. Just illustrating how little sense this makes.
  14. I'm also looking forward to Alvarez coming back. But he had a .652 OPS prior to getting hurt. So it's not like he was providing big production. I do think he will be better than that once he comes back.
  15. Honestly I'd sign on for 5 DHs at this point if it meant scoring runs.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: But the key is to stop taking the ones that you have out while they are pitching well. I know this isn't exactly the place to hold this conversation, but I feel like this ship has sailed. Everyone believes you should pull the pitcher before he starts to struggle. And the more they subscribe to this theory, the more pitchers will be unfamiliar with extending their outings.
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: NYM pitchers: 8 walks plus a HBP (w/bags loaded natch) Nola: three times went to a three-ball count Nuff said This is part of the reason this team is so unwatchable. The opposition scores in the most aggravating way possible, and our guys don't score at all. Hell, most of the time they don't even threaten.
  18. The Mets don't hit and the pitching staff walks everyone. I feel like Stearns was trying to get us to hate this team so we won't mind when he blows it up.
