  1. Adam Rubin chatting RIGHT NOW: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chats
  2. metirish wrote: Dana Brown...a guy by all accounts will interview for the GM the Mets announce....heyman calls him a guru of scouting...WTF? I googled him and got this.....looks like a guru to me Can't imagine Ross Perot screwing up the payroll.
  3. metirish wrote: Oh what bullshit.....all of it...and WTF does this mean? But Jackson also believes there should be a second Hall of Fame for the real Hall of Famers. In other words, he believes there are too many ballplayers enshrined in Cooperstown, men who were too mortal on the playing field to be sculpted into bronze baseball gods. and beating Lee tonight would not serve as a tie-breaker down the line.....fuck sake man, he's not pitched bigger games in the past?.....oh and the needles, let's not forget those.... If Reggie, with his .262 career average, and the career leader in times struck out, is advocating for a second HOF with "real" Hall of Famers, i hope he'd advocate to keep himself out of it.
  4. These morons aren't even happy when they're winning: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4sYObMxN8k&feature=player_embedded#! Oh, this is glorious. Some highlights: - Douche in road Phils jersey asking to be punched in the face at :12. Sure enough, someone eventually obliges. - Smartest guys in the vid are the two seen at :14, wearing their leather football helmets to the game. - Love the guy at :25, who has apparently picked up his little girl and carried her closer to the fight, I guess to get a better view? - Security guy with a grey white guy fro? Security guy with a grey white guy fro. (1:34)
  5. If that is the case, who "wins" in this? I would think K-Rod if the contract stays in place. I can't imagine the Mets' only goal in this was to keep the balance of his unpaid 2010 contract.
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Bunting with a runner on 2nd and 3-run lead with Ian Kinsler up? .... Really Ron Washington? Mom, he's doing it again!
  7. I didn't stay up to watch. Sadly, at 5-0 I thought it was 50-50 the yanks would win. I've seen this script too often. I'm out. I'll watch the NLCS.
  8. I give the copywriter credit, they really channeled their inner O'Connor to get that flap copy in the right voice.
  9. I've coached little league for four years, and I've never seen any kids 'squabble' over wearing #2. And this is in the middle of MFY territory!
  10. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I've only seen a few photos of Logan White, but in each one he looks like he just woke up after spending the night on a park bench. That's 'cuz he can't sleep, what with having to avoid Carousel and all.
  11. The Captain: The Journey of Derek Jeter Ian O'Connor (Author) Oh, mother of God. And how about this flap copy: Every spring, Little Leaguers across the country squabble over the right to wear his number: 2. Derek Jeter is their hero. He walks in the footsteps of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio, and Mantle, and someday his shadow will loom just as large. Yet he has never been the best player in baseball. In fact, he hasnt always been the best player on his team. But what he does have is an intangible grace that makes him the faceand the heroof the modern Yankee dynasty, and of Americas game. In The Captain, Ian OConnor draws on unique access to Jeter and more than 200 new interviews to reveal how a biracial kid from Michigan became New Yorks most beloved sports figure and the face of the steroid-free athlete. OConnor takes us behind the scenes of a legendary baseball life and career, from Jeters early struggles in the minor leagues, when homesickness and errors threatened a stillborn career, to the heady days of Yankee superiority and nightlife, to the battles with former best friend A-Rod. All along the way, Jeter has made his Hall of Fame destiny look easy. But behind that leadership and heros grace there are hidden struggles and complexities that have never been explored, until now. As Derek Jeter closes in on 3,000 hits, something no Yankee has ever achieved, The Captain offers an incisive, exhilarating, and revealing new look at one of the games greatest players at the apex of his career. Fire Joe Morgan gang, where are you in our time of need?
  12. Blue Jays - Tony Pena Brewers - Willie Randolph Cardinals - Tiny Larussa Cubs - Mike Quade Mariners - Bobby Valentine Marlins - Bob Brenly Mets - Wally Backman Pirates - Eric Wedge Rangers (why?) - Ron Washington Yankees - Joe Girardi
  13. Voted Giants, though with no conviction. They're not the Phillies is enough reason for me.
  14. As v. Cubs (turn of 30s???)
  15. Which stadium did the Beatles choose...twice?
  16. While I do agree that a guy like Alderson can be the baseball voice of the organization, and the kind of guy who would command a certain degree of respect from the Wilpons, I can't say I'm doing cartwheels. His best As teams were more than 20 years ago, and they were tainted by both the steroid scandal (looking the other way, Sandy?) and underachieved mightily in two of their three world series. So yeah, he may be the best guy available, but I'd hardly call him a can't-miss.
  17. You know, now that I think about it, in 2005, the Angels played a game 4 in YS on a Sunday night, then flew cross country for game 5 in Anaheim on Monday, then had to fly to Chicago to play game one of the LCS on Tuesday night. I'm sure rain was the cause of that bunching of games, but that's going overboard the other way to cave in to TV, I'm sure.
  18. Hate the day off here. Am I wrong in thinking that they did not have these travel days before? Never mind that it screws up the rotation for the winning team in the ALCS, but I thought the idea was to speed up the playoffs? Was also surprised to not see more being made of Washington's positively-Jerry-like bullpen usage in game three.
  19. These Phillies really give me a late-90s Yankee vibe, and I really don't want to live through that again.
  20. Attended Game 6 (section 3 of upper deck); and the Benny game (loge box in RF near the auxiliary scoreboard). It felt louder at the Benny game, but i think that was because I was seated lower. Both games were ridiculously loud, though.
  21. My second favorite day at Shea, following game 6.
  22. Has Muffy permanently put away his outfield glove? Because I could see him being part of the mix as a jack-of-all-trades guy. And yeah his defense in LF left something to be desired, but we all saw that Duda and Carter each had their deficiencies as well.
  23. If an NFL or NBA official f**ed up that bad, he'd be nowhere near the field in the next game. Why can't MLB do that?
  24. seawolf17 wrote: I'm still pissed that Willie used Floyd to pinch-hit in that spot. If I ran into Willie on the street, the first thing I'd say would be "Really? Cliff? Ugh." I was more thinking that Cliff got hurt in like the second inning of game 1, and we played a man short the whole series. Plus, if you remember, game 1 had been rained out, eliminating the off day between games 2 and 3...and MLB would not let either team adjust their roster to account for the off day. Both teams would likely have tried to add another pitcher. ***Or what Edgy said.
  25. We couldn't replace Cliff Floyd...or activate El Duque. Not that I'm bitter or anything.
