  2. The atdhe.net feed was good for me. Watched until the 5th. Then it was the radio and bed for me. Am I to understand that the feed was taken down at some point?
  3. But by then it will be even apparent to even those looking at it through the darkest Yankee-colored glasses.
  4. They gave both Posada and Rivera multi-year deals at around the age Jeter is now. Those deals were quite rich, to the point that no other team would have come close to what the Yankees paid (well, maybe someone would have paid Mariano, but he never had any desire to hit the open market). It would not shock me to see him get a 4 year, 75-80 mill. contract. I expect his next contract negotiation (when he's 40 or 41) will be the one that is problematic to both sides. By then his offense and defense will have worn down to the point that as much as he might be an organizational icon, running him out there every day will harm both the player's legacy and the everyday product.
  5. While some Mets people have a soft spot for Wally Backman, it will be a major upset if Alderson, the Harvard and Dartmouth educated former Marine, accedes to the wishes of incumbent Mets people and hires Backman. Read more: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/baseball/mlb/10/26/mets.hire.alderson/#ixzz13ZdYgxgU Who will be his guy? Hale? Mazzilli? Clint Hurdle?!? Didn't someone post in the last day or so (not sure which thread) a Heymann tweet that Alderson had submitted a list of managerial candidates and that Backman was high on the list?
  6. And less bitterly, Gil's 2 with the Dodgers. Good job, G!!
  7. Let's look at the AL East this year as a counterpoint though: The Yanks and Rays would have had to go all out to win that final weekend. Let's assume the Yankees had won the division on the final day. That would put the Rays into the wild card playoff. Meanwhile the "second" wild card team this year would have been the Red Sox... who by the final weekend had sewn up their spot in the WC play-in game. So, Boston would have adjusted their rotation ahead of time so that their # 1 pitcher (I guess either Lester or Bucholz) would have been ready for the play-in game (and beyond should they advance). meanwhile the Rays we'll assume have gone all-out and maybe have to use James Shields in a winner take all one-game playoff. Seems a little unfair to Tampa. (I do realize that in many seasons the second WC would not be locked in, and they'd have to go all out.)
  8. Edgy DC wrote: If the season is to truncated, I'd prefer it be done by adding more doubleheaders. Agreed, and they could even be of the day/night variety to satisfy the teams that would gripe about the loss of a game gate.
  9. That might work for the wild card, but in the other series, would you make the lesser division winner only get 2 home games?

  11. Beltran's bigger crime in that AB was looking at a fat first pitch. It was like he went up there thinking I'm taking a pitch no matter what, and fell behind.
  12. Did you also shake hands with Kenny 'The Snake' Stabler on the right?
  13. Unable to watch...how bad was Sanchez that he was lifted in a 2-2 game?
  14. G-Fafif wrote: as a friend in the newspaper business pointed out, he was among the first to break the News's picket line, against Tribune, during the contentious strike of 1990-91.) Two things about Bondy. The first week I entered the corporate world in 1990 was when that strike began. I got off the 5 train at Union Square and heard a guy railing about the evil newspapers. The man looked like he hadn;t bathed or shaved in months (remember, this was about 36 hours after the strike began). It was Bondy. The other thing? I always wondered by Peter Vecsey referred to him as "Ding Dong" Bondy. now I know.

  19. Reading Jeff''s note struck me...how much power/influence does Saul Katz wield in situations like this?
  20. Lee v. Halladay, game one at CBP Wednesday night?
  21. My dad taught me that no real Brooklyn Dodger fan would ever root for the Yankees. So there's a lot of bull spit in there. Then again, he was 8 when the team left for LA. So maybe he's embellishing his Dodger fandom as well.
  22. Reading off the espn game cast, three runs scored on 2 walks, 2 singles, and an error by Francoeur ("A superior defender"--Ron Darling).
  23. Maybe 3 straight wins in the Stadium was too much to ask? 3-0 deficit for Texas bottom 2.
  24. Lotta chatter on my FB page from MFY fans that Ron Darling has been insufferably anti-Yankee. anybody who has been watching can confirm this?
  25. ^^^ In the gif, Check out fat guy in the quintuple-X World Series Shirt just randomly screaming out "F**k you, F**k you"
