  1. Christ. Hope no one bought tickets thinking Harvey was starting.
  2. Edgy DC wrote: Purely speculation but I'd guess there's probably about 26 teams interested in Davis and maybe twenty fewer in Duda. I'd probably agree...I would think the return would be greater for Davis, too.
  3. Umm, about that cap....
  4. How many of the voters, do you suppose, base their vote more on the 'traditional' stats as opposed to the "sabermetric" stats as posted by BML? I still think most guys just look at wins, era, Ks, and the eye test. I can't imagine Bill Madden casting his vote with Base-Out Runs Saved being the deciding factor, but I could be wrong.
  5. Ruben Tejada SS Daniel Murphy 2B David Wright 3B Ike Davis 1B Mike Baxter RF Jason Bay LF Andres Torres CF Josh Thole C R.A. Dickey RHP Native NYC'er in Right Field. Let's defy the baseball lords and wear a first-responder cap out on the field, Mike.
  6. Candy Man needs a better fitting hat. And did Wayne Garret start channeling Glen Frey when he went to Montreal?

Rollover? - No. Currently suck? - Yes And while the Yanx are playing those teams the Rays & O's will be playing each other. And, no, none of that is a guarantee, but it is an advantage. The Twins rolling over and dying for the Yankees is as much a certainty as death, taxes, and a Lindsey Lohan relapse.
  8. What's more offensive, all the ads or Alex Cora?
  9. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Anybody know why Joan Payson didn't officially retire #24? Was she waiting for Mays' induction into the HOF? Payson didn't wait for Casey to be voted into the HOF before retiring #37. And the Payson family still owned the team in '79, when Mays was voted, and then inducted into Cooperstown. Did Joan's daughters bumble it up for Joan? (And Willie). Was that around the time that Bowie Kuhn banned him for his casino work? [Nope, I checked, that was in 1983 and was reinstated in 1985]. So not sure what ol' Joan was doing. But maybe the ban had something to do with the Wilpons not officially retiring it?
  10. Poking around with my fantasy roster and I caught this tidbit: (Shin-Soo) Choo is unlikely to agree to a contract extension with the Indians and will likely be shopped during the offseason, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports. Any interest?
  11. I'm getting a creepy "Anthony Hopkins in the movie Magic" vibe from Met hand puppet guy.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: And inning 2 features 2 hits, a walk, a stolen base ... and, of course, no runs. Technically only one hit, but yup, this is our team.
  13. Would you let a woman who wears that blouse craft your wedding?
  14. Off-off-off-off-off Broadway cast of Grease sells Nissans, and after umpteen airings of it last night Mrs. Solo is ready to riot.
  15. Ceetar wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Glad to have him on board. Now all I have to do is find out who Jamie Kennedy is. he was the rules of horror movie "stay a virgin" guy in Scream. Is he still in show business?
  16. Regarding Wally, much as I loved the guy and I would really like to see a ML team give him a shot, I worry that he will wear out his welcome pretty fast and in 2 years we'd be back looking to fill the position again. Finding the next Maddon would be great. I'd like to hire a guy who we're not having a "watch" for in the middle of his second season, whoever that might be.
  17. I don't know the answer to this, but can a AA city "move up" to AAA? Why does it simply have to be an existing AAA city?
  18. I got nothing. Props for the diabolical, well-thought out, and crazy difficult trivia test.
  19. Not sure where Edgy's managerial strategy thread from early season is, but anyhow, with 2 outs and nobody on in the ninth, down two runs, and you have basically committed to PHing your next two batters with the lefties on your bench, don't you go Baxter first, then Jordanny? Me, I put Mr. 5-walks-in-5-PAs up there first, then go with the guy with the flair for the dramatic HR. Probably nitpicking Terry here, but I was sure thinking this while watching.
  20. Swan Swan H wrote: There will be no peace on this board until we can come to a consensus on this critical issue: Is it far fetched or far-fetched? And is it ever just fetched? Why is it always far fetched (or far-fetched)?
  21. I am totally stealing "that's blinkin' fertilizer."
  22. I went to the Rockland Boulders game last night in their relatively new ballpark. Not a bad little place to watch a game. Mrs. Solo got an email alert to a special deal: 4 tix, 4 hot dogs, 4 sodas, and 1 popcorn (only 1?) for $30. Oh, and we were in the second row behind the dugout. Very cool, and a bonus Gustavo Chacin sighting! But I have no idea wtf the trip to Fargo is all about.
  23. Looks like I'll be going on Sunday with soon-to-be-teen-girl Solo. I believe we have Caesar's Gold seats, though I don't have the physical tix in my hands just yet to know exactly where. Those going for the Mr. Met Dash, enjoy. We did it a few years back and the kids loved it.
  24. That program, from 8/19/73, was one day before my first-ever Mets game at Shea.
