  1. Does that mean he'll only hear half the boos?
  2. Since we're talking about young SS on old franchises, would the Red Sox listen if someone inquired about Xander Bogaerts? I know he didn't light up Fenway last year, but still very young and as far as I know still very prospect-y. I suppose our young pitching might interest them.
  3. Voted like because he makes the team better. Don't love because I would have hoped for an option to make us more better, and because I am worried that this is the only "big" bat they are bringing in.
  4. It was Schulman and Aaron Boone; I heard them earlier in the game in the car. They're actually pretty good.
  5. Bottom of the fifth, Infante leads off with a hit; he was the first batter faced by Bumgardner. Do you bunt Escobar there? Yost did, no one in the booth questioned it, despite it only being the fifth inning. I don't like it...I know it's Bumgardner, but maybe your best chance to get to him is before you let him get in a groove.
  6. Ceetar wrote: This broadcast, from Harold and Joe to Erin, is atrocious. I feel like Harold Reynolds is on a mission to make me stupider about baseball pitch by pitch. Tom Verducci, who I used to like or at least respect as a writer, brings zero to the table. Buck is by far the best of the 3-man booth and that says a lot because normally I can't stand him. And Erin, oh Erin. Sending it down to her for a "report" that tells us, hey, first row seats are being scalped for a lot of money! just illustrates why it is so unnecessary to have "sideline" guys (or gals) at a baseball game. The FX pregame is a clusterbomb as well. They did Burkhart no favors putting him up on set with the douchetastic crew of Kapler, Swisher, Ortiz and Thomas. Lose Kapler and Swisher and it might be watchable.
  7. Well to be fair, it was Gordon who spit the bit in game 5. With a 2 run lead in the 8th he gave up a leadoff HR to Ortiz, then a walk and a single to put runners on 1st and 3rd with nobody out. Rivera was called on for a 6-out save and gave up a sac fly to tie it.
  8. G-Fafif wrote: Lyle Spencer used to cover baseball for the Pest. Every column was a ludicrous trade proposal designed to benefit his childhood team, the Dodgers. He eventually returned to the West Coast, where he truly belonged.
  9. Goodness, someone is still paying Lyle Spencer to write about baseball?

  11. I sense misdirection, and think it is a batting quetstion. Two starts might get him to a plate appearance threshhold. So I'll guess worst batting average in a Met career, minimum 100 PAs? Or something like that
  12. With what has happened recently, it's easy to forget how colossally bad the contract for Gary Matthews Jr. was. Off the top of my head: Matthews Vaughn Pujols Hamilton Wilson Brian Fuentes The Vaughn deal looks like a steal compared to some of the others. I'm sure there are some stretching back that I can't think of. Not ten. Anybody who wants to add a few more on to complete this top ten feel free.

  14. I know they "take it one game at a time" blah blah blah, but this is an awful tough loss to bounce back from. I don't know how Ausmus has any confidence going to his pen at this point. Hope Price and Porcello can go 9, I guess.
  15. DELMON YOUNG! is alive and well. In the two 8th innings of this series, the O's have scored 12 runs in an inning and a third.
  16. RBI hit by Pearce off Joba, then Soria walks Hardy to load the bases. Never mind the Tiger bullpen being ineffective, can they get anybody out?
  17. And Joba the Fatt allows two baserunners in the 8th bringing the tying run to the plate.
  18. The Fordham Flash showing his clutchiness with an extra-innings triple.
  19. Few managers think outside the box regarding their pitching. Maybe LaRussa if he was still around? A related question: is there a lineup out there today that's lefty or righty dominant enough that you would consider doing it?
  20. Bud Black will return for his ninth season as Padres manager, despite just two winning seasons in his first 8. His only hint of the postseason came in his first year, when the Padres lost that famous Matt Holliday slide game in a play-in at Coors Field. Also lost the NL West title on the final day of the 2010 season. But his record over the last four years has been positively Terry-esque (71, 76, 76, 77 wins), making it at least somewhat surprising that he was brought back.
  21. If I had to guess, I say he probably goes Carlyle there. I don't think even Terry would go to a starter on 1 days rest. Then he'd probably go get Carlyle after pitching to Moss and begin the domino effect where we'd be out of effective pitchers by the time we got to the 10th, never mind the 12th inning. Of course the correct answer is you leave your ace in with a lead and only 88 pitches under his belt.
  22. The larger roster problem I had in 2006 is that they did not allow roster adjustments after the game 1 rainout, despite eliminating the travel day between games 2 and 3, meaning there'd be games in five consecutive days. I don't remember the specific pitcher who may have been let off that I would have liked added (maybe it was El Duque) but it did bother me at the time. Then Cliff re-aggravated his ankle early in game one and we didn't see him again till the ninth inning of game 7, so we played basically the whole series a player short.

I don't remember the cap he's wearing there, though.
