  1. He's got a really high ISO (.219) and a really low BABIP (.230). The singles will come, and his other numbers look fine.
  2. Points for style, points for originality, and most importantly, one run.
  3. I just can't fathom the Angels would part with him at all, and if they did, it would be for the biggest package that one player has netted in the history of the game.
  4. As abhorrent as I find Schilling's posts to be, I'm more troubled by the fact that expressing a political opinion in a forum not directly connected to work can get somebody fired. I have a lot of Facebook friends who would be in trouble if this became the norm, and while Schilling is more of a public figure than most people, I don't see why that matters. (Keep in mind that the people who "make this shit up and then put it out there for idiots like schilling to reshare" are still, at least presumably, employed.)
  5. Walker has never hit lefties that well, so there is room for Herrera in a platoon role if Flores doesn't grab that role early and go with it. Otherwise it will probably take an injury to see much of Herrera, but I bet he will do significantly better than last year if he gets the chance.
  6. I'll be there. It might not receive my full attention for as long as my daughter chooses to remain awake, but I have nine unfilled spots and not a whole lot of money to spend so I can probably afford to wait on the bidding.
  7. Harvey has the biggest reputation, but DeGrom is the ace until somebody pitches better over a full season.
  8. Since Montero is taken: Juan Lagares forces his way into regular playing time. But at whose expense?
  9. I was under the impression that the best bargain pickups don't materialize until after the season starts anyway, but I could be wrong about that. I got a warning today that my registration was about to expire, and I'm thinking I might not be the only one. So you all might want to check to make sure your registration doesn't expire before draft day and before you even realize it.

And it's not just because she's easy on the eyes. Even the way she eats her green meal on Jakku is compelling. If you asked me before the movie, who is worthy of taking over the Falcon, I would have said no one. Never. Impossible. But when she did it, it was seamless. When she called that lightsaber, it made you want to stand up and cheer. This, this, this, and this again. Yeah, I would have come up with something more interesting than "the Death Star, only bigger." Hell, you could argue that swallowing up a star by itself would have been a better weapon. But I thought everything else about the movie was superb.
  11. I'd expect Flores to platoon at second, given that he had an .955 OPS against lefties last year and Walker doesn't hit that well righthanded (.575 last year, .656 overall). Honestly, if Tejada could be moved for a corner infielder with a better bat, I'd do it happily.
  12. I'm a little bit surprised we didn't get in on Justin Ruggiano, whom the Rangers got for less than $2M.

  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'm glad Niese was able to remain a Met long enough to pitch in a World Series for them. That sums it up pretty well. He had good stretches and bad stretches, but overall he was basically OK. Guys who are "OK" tend to be looked on favorably when they play for bad teams, and less favorably when they play for good teams, and I think that was true of Niese. He deserves a lot of credit (and a warm ovation the first time he pitches in Citi) for helping get the team through the lean years, but I also think it was a good time and a good way to move on.
  15. He'll give you an OPS in the mid 700s, which Tejada can't do and Flores has yet to demonstrate he can. Defense is the bigger question mark. It's not a bad pickup unless he turns out to have no range at all.
  16. And yet plan B materialized awfully quickly. I try not to read too much into how things look in the media (or read too much in general where sports is concerned), because that ultimately has no bearing on how things look on the field.
  17. Redundancy isn't necessarily a bad thing. (Well, we did sacrifice some redundancy in the rotation to get redundancy in the infield, but more pitchers are probably coming.) Plus, if you think Herrera could use another year in AAA -- he'll turn 22 in ST and hasn't really done anything yet with his opportunities in the show -- the Walker deal makes a lot of sense. Flores will have to earn his ABs, but I'm OK with that. Given that we have lefty hitters in both corner outfield spots and first base, I think Cuddyer will find a role. Maybe not a $10M role, but we've moved on.
  18. I'm working under the assumption that the Mets would have offered Zobrist four years if it was really Zobrist or dick. And since there are perfectly valid baseball reasons not to go four years on Zobrist, I'm not upset. There's a pretty sizable market at second base, including the incumbent. I'm not panicking. I agree with Ceetar's point that it wasn't just the Cespedes deal that helped down the stretch. Conforto getting his sea legs was a huge upgrade over what we'd had in the outfield to that point as well, as were a healthy Wright and d'Arnaud, and those things all remain in place.
  19. Virtual high fives all around!
  20. And now the party is ON!!!
  21. Is anybody else kind of rooting for the Nats to win today since it looks like that game will be done first?
  22. Credit where credit is due: Bourgeois makes a super over-the-fence catch to rob Murphy.
  23. Just got in. Looks like the party has already started!
  24. Lefties have a .607 OPS against Gilmartin, so it's not like he couldn't be used in a LOOGY situation (with the added bonus that he can get righthanded batters out as well and doesn't need to be micromanaged). Plus, either Matz or Niese will be in the pen if we play games in October. I don't see major grounds for panic here, just don't ever let O'Flaherty face a right-handed batter again and use somebody other than Gilmartin in innings-eating scenarios.
