  1. You hold out for the right deals, and if that means July 31 instead of today, fine. I think you can get part of next year's bullpen for a few of the two-month rentals (meaning AAA relievers who look promising), and that would be more than good enough. Bruce is playing well enough to bring back more than that, as is Duda (which I can't believe people don't see), and it's always a sellers market for relievers this time of year. But you don't need to do anything today.
  2. That was mean. Accurate, but mean. Phelps has another year, but he's also not that good. It's a seller's market for relievers. It would render our pen utterly useless for the rest of the season, but I think you have to see what Reed can get you.
  3. I'd love to get Miguel Andujar (third baseman with a .313/.345/.503 line at Trenton and Scranton this year). Duda would be a .904-OPS lefty masher going into THAT park. I think there's room for a deal.

While he wasn't out as long as Wheeler, expecting him to avoid bumps in the road turned out to be overly optimistic. I think he will be fine long-term, but unfortunately I can't make any promises for the rest of this season.
  5. I'm going with full blown optimism, because why not? As far as the questions: Conforto, Cespedes, deGrom, deGrom, Cespedes
  6. Neil Ramirez doesn't even deserve a couple of weeks in Vegas. Hell, a couple of weeks in Binghamton might be too good for him.
  7. You sign him to a minor league deal, then give him a couple of weeks in Vegas to see if he can right his ship. Worst case scenario: we lose nothing, and he gets a couple of weeks in Vegas.
  8. Unlucky, but lucky enough to get to the show and hang around for a while. And it takes a good pitcher to be allowed to have a losing streak that long. I rooted for him on a team where I didn't really like anybody else. Rest in peace.
  9. Eh, he overreacted, and what's going on inside the foul lines isn't keeping people's attention. Maybe there was a lapse in diplomacy somewhere, but Cabrera's performance at short is such that he's more likely to draw interest from a contender looking for a second baseman. And his agent should know that, even if he doesn't. This will blow over, and Cabrera wasn't a good bet to still be a Met in August anyway.
  10. If it's the ball, I see no reason why MLB wouldn't just say so. (I also see no reason why anybody would think they were improving the game by doing this, but whatever.) I also don't see why they wouldn't know if something was being done differently. I'm more concerned that a few people found a way to cheat and not get caught, and just like in the 90s, once other players could see that they gained an edge without any obvious consequences, the temptation to indulge when millions of dollars are at stake became too much to resist.
  11. G-Fafif wrote: So many places to mention Cabrera's thumb has him back on the DL. You can't convince me that Reyes at shortstop instead of Rosario gives the Mets the best chance of winning games right now.
  12. I think the Mets pressed their luck with him when they sent him back to Vegas to stretch out after a pretty good year for us in the pen. He hasn't been right since, but he's a lefty with a pulse so he'll get his share of chances to redeem himself.
  13. There was a point in the season when I had 8 pitchers on the DL and another one suspended. But until yesterday I had spent the last two weeks in first place. As Joe Walsh once said, I can't complain but sometimes I still do.
  14. I would think that, after Cespedes and arguably Thor as well, that they would just give Cabrera the ten days and not risk him making it worse by trying to play through it.
  15. Conlon rebounded from two bad starts in dramatic fashion yesterday, posting one hit, one walk, and 9 strikeouts over seven shutout innings against New Hampshire. His current stat line stands at a 3.31 ERA and a 1.13 WHIP, with 35 Ks in 32.2 IP.
  16. Centerfield wrote: And the guy who had the actual Dillon Gee was not all that rich to begin with. Which describes the Mets right now (and then, too.)
  17. In the case of both Cespedes and Syndegaard, you have to trust your doctors, and if that is all Alderson or Collins is guilty of, then you can't blame the situation on them. But if somebody rushed them back against the recommendation of the Mets' doctors, that would be a very different story.
  18. Neil Walker the Met was at least as good last year as Daniel Murphy the Met had ever been in the regular season. Murphy would have cost us a significant long-term commitment. Walker cost us Jon Niese. It's fair to ask what we missed regarding both Murphy and Justin Turner, but I'm not sure how much of that is on the GM as opposed to the staff. The next inning Dilson Herrera plays for the Reds will be his first. His .584 OPS at AAA won't earn him a quick promotion, either. And as bad as the Mets hitting has been, how much worse would it be without Bruce? He did singlehandedly win a game for us last week.
  19. Conlon sports a 2.12 ERA, an 0.882 WHIP, and a 16/2 K/BB ratio after 3 games and 17 IP for Bingo. His strikeouts are up, but he uncharacteristically allowed a home run in his first two games. His most recent start (6 shutout innings with 3 hits, 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts) was a solid as it gets, though.
  20. Anybody Know who Rougned's Odor is? He took over Initech's "team" and just started a whole bunch of auctions. I'm all for not competing on any of his initial bids.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Boyish face, but massive hands. Not very presidential, in other words. Minor league depth. Gets a call-up in September, and records one meaningful out in a pivotal extra-inning game.
  22. Has a future as a bullpen arm. Gets a 3.45 ERA in half a season with the Mets.
  23. I'm still bullish. I'll say .270/.340/.410 over 400 ABs. Gets steadily more playing time as the season moves on.
  24. I don't think I'd offer him more than a no-promises minor league deal. If he takes it, fine. If he doesn't, fine.
  25. If we need to switch days, the one day I know for certain is bad for me is the 29th.
