  1. =Methead post_id=101861 time=1659455335 user_id=61] Juan Soto and Josh Bell to the Padres appears to be done.
  2. =smg58 post_id=101860 time=1659455070 user_id=62] The Orioles trade Jorge Lopez, a closer with a 1.68 ERA under control through 2024, to the Twins for 4 prospects, the highest of which is ranked 22 in the Twins' system. Did they think they were selling high? Also, why didn't the Mets beat that offer?

  4. I hope the A's trade Murphy because Langeliers is on my fantasy team. (So is Murphy, but something tells me Langeliers has the better bat.) I can't see the Mets trading for a catcher that is more than a two-month rental unless they trade Alvarez, but that would mean making one costly trade that necessitates making another one.
  5. The Braves just tied up Austin Riley for 10 and 215. Because that's what teams who don't wish to be laughing stocks do.
  6. I would guess that the Yankees don't wish to part with their SS prospects after not going big in free agency because of them. Oh, the irony. How will their fans take it if Judge bolts for a different city? Or borough?
  7. =Ceetar post_id=101759 time=1659387327 user_id=102]Two years of Montas for only one top-100 guy might actually be a steal.
  8. Taylor Rogers has had a bad July for the Padres, but Hader has had a much worse July for the Brewers. And it's more likely that Rogers' stretch involved bad luck. I love this deal from the Brewers perspective. Prospects don't suck, but the chances of a package of prospects matching what a player like Soto can give you are small. I'm not convinced the Mets are voluntarily out on Soto, but I can't imagine the Nationals want Soto playing fifteen years for a division rival. They already have that with Harper.
  9. He has a criminally low BABIP so far, but everything else is OK so far at AAA. I'm betting he'll be cruising in another week or two.
  10. It's the kind of price where the Mariners will very likely get enough value to justify the expense, but at the same time you're not shaking your head wondering why it didn't cost more.

Yeah Mancini can be a FA at the end of the season, but would holding on to him for another two months be Baltimore's worst move? They love him in Baltimore, too. They can do worse than keep him. Not that I wouldn't be interested in him as a righthanded bat, mind you.
  12. A depth move, but Naquin has had his moments with the bat.
  13. We still don't have a righty bat on the bench.
  14. Lugo was super. Now let's win this.
  15. You say it like there's something wrong with it.
  16. I lived up by Columbia for ten years and I never considered changing subway trains at Times Square to be an "evil," necessary or otherwise. I bet they go to the Museum of Natural History a lot. (And next time we go, I might have to check out Bagel and Co. to get a not-so-random Mets sighting.)
  17. Was very good while he was here, but the sample size was small and Eppler felt he was selling high. Hopefully he's right.
  18. I don't think there's enough time left for him to get to 60, but over 30 seems good.
  19. There is a better chance of his next start moving him forward than killing his season. Granted I'm not sure what to expect when he gets here, but at this point he's very likely to get here.
  20. So doesn't the UMDB rank Mets by body mass index?
  21. I would think that Mr. Colon deserves to be mentioned repeatedly in this thread. And I hope someday Mr. Vogelbach earns that distinction as well.
  22. McNeil has been slumping all month, whether from injury or just slumping, and Showalter decided keeping the righthanded bat in against the lefty Rogers was the best option. You can agree or disagree with it -- personally, I disagree with it strongly -- but I don't think reading a whole lot into it is required. The bigger issue is do we have enough righthanded depth on the bench.
  23. On one hand, Vogelbach hits right-handers more than well enough to justify parting with a AAAA reliever to get him. On the other hand, his approach might not be a good fit for our home park at all. He is actually hitting for a better average then normal this year, at least against righties. So the question is has he made some adjustments to his extremely one-dimensional approach (which would be a good thing), or has he gotten lucky (in which case ceetar is probably right). I'd like to think the team looked into that before pulling the trigger -- I mean, it's not the Wilpons anymore -- but I guess we'll see.
  24. From the owners' perspective, it's not so much whether guys like Soto/Trout/Ohtani add enough wins to justify their salary -- they do -- but whether they put enough people in the stands by themselves to justify their salary. Of course winning in general is the best way to fill your stadium, but the Angels have demonstrated repeatedly that having multiple guys with Hall-of-Fame talent isn't sufficient to build a consistent winner. And since they're dumb enough to repeatedly fail at team building despite having two guys that every GM would love to build around and a budget that shouldn't get in the way, they may well be dumb enough to think moving Trout and Ohtani will make things better for them. As for the price... for Soto or Ohtani, even Alvarez would have to be on the table (and by himself, Alvarez would not come close to being enough). I can't fathom the Nats would ever trade Soto to a division rival, but I have been wrong before.
