  1. When he came up the first time, the announcers on the radio were saying that he's a good hitter, and mentioned the grandslam he hit earlier this year (off Jose Lima). Later
  2. KC wrote: If ya ever wanna have fun with "die hard" Yankee fans who were around in the 70's - get 'em going with a "Munson was just an alright player" and you'll really see some heads spin. You're right. And if you need some statistical backup, the closest major leaguer with whom he can be compared was journeyman first baseman Bruce Bochte (not Bruce Bochy the catcher/ manager). For about the same number of career at-bats, the numbers are quite close in most categories. Then, ask the Yankee fan if Bruce Bochte belongs in the Hall of Fame. (WARNING: You might then have to duck) Later
  3. In a related item, I heard that The Hagerstown Suns web site is reporting that the Suns have signed an agreement with the Washington Nationals to serve as their lower A farm team. Where does this leave the Mets? What locations are open? The Nationals are leaving Savannah, GA. Edgy, have you read/heard anything about this? Later
  4. Too late. I didn't see an "other" option, so I voted for Glavine. Later
  5. Woodward deserves at least a sip for that outstanding defensive play. Later
  6. Better choice. Later
  7. Edgy DC wrote: I'd far prefer Castro in the outfield with Floyd DHing. Castro is slower than most known mollusks. Do you think Floyd is that bad? Later
  8. Green played a lot of first base when he was recovering from a bad arm. But I'm not sure how he compares defensively with Delgado. Carlos certainly has morre experience at the position. Later
  9. ]Hernandez (if he makes the squad): Neutral (but could make a game-breaking play either way). That was funny. I'd rank Floyd as neutral. When (and if) healthy, he's about on a par with most other left fielders. Later
  10. I never heard Gaspar (he's the only other Met I saw mentioned in that article) being called pee-pee. Where did that come from? Later
  11. Woodward gets a sip for that acrobatic fielding play. Later
  12. Glavine 4.5 AHernandez 2 Wagner 1 Tucker 1 Milledge 1 Woodward .5 Later

  14. If Glavine had lost the game 2-0 or 2-1, he could have strangled the life out of Willie and a jury of Mets fans would have found him not guilty on grounds of Justifiable Homicide. Later
  15. Whether or not they will break the record can depend on how strictly the fire laws are enforced. Old Yankee Stadium (before rennovation) had a listed seating capacity of 67,000 but they often crammed as many as 73,000 in there. And the capacity at old Municipal Stadium (Cleveland) had a listed capacity of (IIRC) 70,000 yet they often drew as many as 80,000 for games in their hey day. And even with a seating capacity of 45,000 at the new Mets ballpark, a full house every night would break this year's attendance figures with 3.6+ million. Later

  17. OHernandez 5 Delgado 3 Mota 1 Lo Duca 0.5 Beltran 0.5 Later
  18. I think I read that the New Orleans team played at least some of their home games in the Dome. Those games produced some interesting stats because I believe one of the foul lines was kinda' short. Does anyone know if that place has been repaired since Katrina? Later
  19. Check two posts up. Looks like I was worrying about the right thing. Later
  20. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Deals need to be made by Sept. 30, or else Bud assigns them. There is prescedent for this. He put a minor league team in Milwaukee. Later
  21. ScarletKnight41 wrote: Ricky Ledee is a waste of a roster space. Even with an expanded roster. Ricky Ledee is a waste of Oxygen. Later
  22. Ok, who among you had the under on "Anderson Hernandez - 1 career RBI"? Be honest. Later
  23. ScarletKnight41 wrote: 2-0 Fish on a Wes Helms homer. I even hat guys who used to be Braves. Later
  24. Sorry. when I think of the Braves, I tend to get serious. Later
  25. I just heard on the radio that the senior Senor Franco will start at third base. I hope Glavine will pitch those righty batters outside. Later
