  1. Albert Pujols' real name is Joe Hardy, and the clock has just struck midnight. You asked for varying degrees of realism, and this was as much of a variance as I could come up with. Later
  2. Willie has been resting at least one regular per game over the past few weeks, so we haven't seen the real Mets. Try as hard as I can, that doesn't reassure me. Later
  3. The 20 year old first baseman seems to be on the rise. Individual Batting Stats Pos AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS OBP SLG OPS SH SF IBB GIDP HBP 1B .287 137 491 69 141 27 1 17 88 51 107 2 1 .379 .450 .829 0 6 5 13 25 Those 25 HBP intrigue me. Sounds like a hard nosed kid who will "Take one for the team". I'm just going to have to be careful when I spell his last name. Later
  4. From that list, I'd have to say my all time Met from the DR is Jose Reyes. And my all-time fave from all of baseball was Juan Marichal. He was called the "Dominican Dandy", hence the words in the questions. NOTE: when I looked at the list, I thought there was a dupe (same player, two cities). Then I remembered the other Pedro Martinez. Good job. Thanks Yancy. Later
  5. ]San Fran lost their 5th straight and have now been eliminated from both the NLWest & the WC This is going to deprive all those who care about Barry (one way or another) of the opportunity to see him in what might have been his last post season. Later

  10. 50 years ago this week, the first player born in the Dominican Republic made the major leagues. It was Ozzie Virgil, with the New York Giants. Who is your all-time favorite Dominican Dandy (any team)? Who is your all-time favorite Dominican Dandy Met? Later
  11. Edgy DC wrote: This perhaps is where the leather-eared scouts were ahead of the numbers. If you saw him often enough, you knew he was more than capable of a breakout year. In fact I'd say that athletic-type players improve like they play, in big bursts, relative to refined-skill-type players. On the other hand, if you saw him play often enough last year, you were convinced that he decided whether or not to swing before the pitcher threw the ball --- that he had not a clue what a strike looked like --- and that he still reverts to that when he's not going so well. Edgy. There were posts about two ballplayers just before yours- Ryan Howard and Jose Reyes. Which player were you talking about ? It might be said for both. Later
  12. I'd sure like to see Willie start the regular lineup in a few consecutive games, so they can get comfortable again in their regular positions in the lineup. Later
  13. Nobody mentioned the Billy Traber sighting? Later
  14. Edgy DC wrote: So, pretend (and forfend) that a starter sudenly becomes unavailable. Which Post-Pirate is higher on your depth chart right now... Williams or Perez? We already have williams. His name is Darrin Oliver. Given that choice as a post season starter (I'd refer Maine to both), I'd pick Perez. His stuff is better. Later
  15. Reed had a better arm than McElroy, so he got to play right. LAter
  16. How many posts between levels? * It gets steeper as you go. Attaining quality is never easy young Skywalker. Seems to me the changes should be coming less frequently if that is true.My player has changed three times within my last 100 or so posts. It that a Jamie in the system? (Jamie Quirk seemed like a nice guy; too nice to be burdened by the negative connotation of his last name)Later
  17. As Edgy said, it still is. Later
  18. Willie says Lastings may make the post season roster - and some other neat stuff. Looks like Swugger may do the Zephyrs games. http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060924&content_id=1679622&vkey=news_nym&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym Later
  19. There was an article in the Daily News about a week ago that said that neither the Mets nor the Yankees will "have any interest" in Zito when he becomes a free agent at the end of this year. Take that for what its worth. Maybe they're trying to drive the price down, but with Boras as his agent. methinks it won't work. His performance has been declining the past two years. But a good post season will drive that price back up. Later
  20. Who names their kid Boof? Yeah I know, the Bonsers Later
  21. The Atlanta Braves have been officially eliminated from the playoffs. Kudos to the end of a great run. It was a run of continued excellence that may never be equalled. BUT Come on all you Mets fans Munchkins, sing along with me. Ding Dong! The Bitch is dead. Which old Bitch? The Atlanta Bitch! Ding Dong! The Wicked Bitch is dead. No more theyre in our heads, No more fear, of the team of Ted. Ding dong, the Wicked Bitch is dead. Theyve gone where the losers go, Below - below - below. Yo-ho, let's open up and tell Chipper hes out. Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low. Let them know The Chopping Bitch is dead! (I know someone elase posted something like this earlier, but now its official) Later
  22. Willets Point wrote: We should make a top ten list of Clemen's best last games ever. Let's let the fans of some other team do that. But that was funny Later
  23. Please refresh my menory - what are the "130" and "110" records that were mentioned? Later

  25. Speaking of the AL Wild Card, the Red Sox were officially eliminated from that race this week. The team suffered a lot of key injuries this year. And they seemed not to have capable backups for the injured players in their organization/ on their roster. I can imagine their fans relating that to management's indecision over rehiring Theo and the time they lost by not having him for a major portion of the off season when many deals/ signings were happening. In fact, they may call what's happened this year "The Curse of the Epstino". (sorry for that) Later
