  3. During the last 13 games the Mets have amassed the following offensive stats: Batting Avg = .240 On-Base %= .321 Slugging % = .344 OPS.......... = .665 Runs/Game= 2.77 Yes, those are pretty offensive. Later
  4. New Orleans and Savannah could make for a pretty good start to a restaurant tour. Later
  5. ="Yancy Street Gang"]Young? I don't get called that very often anymore. Its a relative term. More on this tomorrow. Stay tuned. Later

If they are in the World Series I have two options: 1) Root for the earthquake, then the do-over with a replacement team. 2) Root for the Jets, and get ready for basketball season. wiseass young whippersnappers Later

  8. I root for any NL team in the World Series, even the Braves. Back to the Yanks. During last night's game, John Sterling said "Robinson Cano is the best ninth place hitter in the history of the game". Georgie's Girl added "He's the second leadoff hitter in this lineup". Later

  10. Three names come to mind: Nolan Ryan Moe Drabowsky Howard Ehmke All three had unexpectedly great post season pitching performances. Drabowsky and Ryan came out of the bullpen and Ehmke (1929) (at the end of his career) was a surprise starter for the Phillies who pitched an 11 (or was it 14?) strikeout victory. Will John Maine or Aaron Heilman be added to that list? Later
  11. Just took a glance at the Suns' roster. From the scouting reports, it looks like the first player from that team to make the majors will probably be wunderkind outfielder Fernando Martinez. Later

  13. Hold off on any talk of a jinx. We still don't know how Jose will perform in the post season. For all we know, an ESPN mag cover could turn out to be the Anti-SI. Later
  14. ElDuque, Glavine and Traschell are three veteran (every time I hear that word I think of Murph) pitchers who can deliver quality starts in the post season. Later
  15. Speaking of leaving a message - I read in the Daily News this morning that when the Mets got to the visiting clubhouse at the Ted last night, they found that someone had written "Welcome to the 2006 Eastern Division Champs" on the chalk board. Classy move. Later
  16. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Call the Mariners and ask them. I doubt that they'll be able to answer your question, but why not try? I sent an email to a friend (a big Mariners fan) in Seattle to ask if it was explained in the papers out there. I'll post any info learned. If that fails, I may call them. Later
  17. LOL! Good catch. Edited. Now, back to the question... Later
  18. A while ago, in one of the roster threads, there was a discussion about some of the terminology used to describe a transaction. I think it was about the difference between a balllplayer being "assigned" versus "Optioned". Earlier this week I saw this in the transactions section of my local paper: "The Seattle Mariners selected RHP Jorge Campillo from Triple-A Tacoma and placed RHP Cha Seung Baek on the 60-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right triceps." I've never seen that term (selected) used before other than in regards to the draft. Usually the transaction wire/ mlb.com will say something like "Purchased the contract of..... " when a team adds a minor leaguer to the 40 man roster. Anyone else notice this? read any details about it? Why do you think it was worded this way? I won't be able to schedule that seminar someone suggested if I can't find out. Later
  19. How would you rate this documentary about a middle school class in rural Tennessee that wanted to learn more about the Holocaust? If you missed it, it is often shown on HBO. Later
  20. I never thought I'd be rooting for that team from LA to win. But I am, for them to win just enough to bounce both Houston and Philly from the playoffs. The prospect of facing either of those two teams scares the crap out of me. I'd rather take my chances facing either LA or the Padres. Later

  23. No, those four dingers tied it. They won on a walkoff homer by Nomar in a later inning. Later
  24. Yancy Street Gang wrote: If a team is clicking, and feeling good about itself, why would it be impossible for that to carry over from one day to the next? If you could figure out the answer to that , you could make a lot of money a a sports psychologist. A LOT of money. Later
  25. Alex, I'll take Ballplayers for $200 Answer: Chipper Jones Question: What ballplayer do you want to humiliate so badly that he'll want to change his kid's name? Now I'll take Fast Food Restaurants for $100 Answer: Hooters Question: Where does Chipper go to find girlfriends? Now I'll take Major League Teams for (looks like its the Daily double) $1000.
