  4. To A-Rod, the Yanks, Joe Torre and Captain Clutch, as they used to sing on the Magic Garden: See ya, see ya, Glad that you could stay a while, da dum, Glad that we could say "Good morning" to ya, Hope you'll have a shiny day. Later

  6. I was out and couldn't get to a tv for most of the game or a PC at all. Winning the series was good. Who they won it against mede it even better. and I betcha' that the names of the winning pitchers in games 1 and 3 will be the answer to a trivia question not too far in the future. Later
  7. Error by A-Rod sets it up for I-Rod to drive in the fourth run for Detroit. 4-0 Tiggers. Later
  8. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Weird to me that Sheffield's in there today instead of Giambi. And I still can't get over A-Rod batting 8th. Nutty. Leo Durocher, when he was managing the Cubs, moved a young outfielder named Adolfo Phillips to the number 8 spot in the order. He yold him "you're my second cleanup hitter". Phillips went on to have his best year of his career. Later

  10. ="Frayed Knot"]And then there are those six words have Yanqui fans everywhere running for all the good luck charms they can find in an attempt to revive the seemingly lost 'Aura and Mystique': JARET WRIGHT TO SAVE YOUR SEASON May the life preserver he throws them be pure concrete. Later
  11. Valadius wrote: Ernie Harwell in the booth! I never really listened to him before. I now feel I missed a lot. He is a good listen. You can tell his radio days - he gives score and hitter updates frequently. You couldn't ask for more. And he was right when he asked if Joe Morgan had seen Steve Dalkowski. We should all have his mental faculties at his age. Later
  12. The second baseman is out with a broken finger and Scuttaro played short for the injured Crosby. The ESPN announcer (Gary Thorne) said neither may return for the next round. If Marco's as good as he looked in this series, maybe he can play both positions at the same time. Incidentally, I liked him when he was a Met. Can't explain it. I just did. Later
  13. Jason Tyner as a DH? In a web sports column yesterday, writer Tom Verducci from SI.com wrote something like "Jason Tyner, who has as many major league home runs as I have....." Good line. And true. But, we all know how much stronger the American League teams are. Right? Later
  14. If it isn't raining, maybe Beltran will be able to see he is in an away city, and remember how well he hits in those places. All I want is one of those so-called "Quality Starts" from Trax - 6+ IP and 3 ER or less. If he can deliver that, the Mets have a very good chance of not having to see what Perez could do in game 4. Edgy DC wrote: I'm pretty sure Seo had TJ surgery, and lost velocity That "new" 94 MPH figure after his surgery stuck in my mind. But you could be right. It could have been TJ surgery. If it was, never mind. Later
  16. sharpie wrote: I think we can prolly get by with Perez for 4 innings or so and then ride the Oliver/Bradford/Felciano/Hernandez/Mota/Heilman/Wagner train the rest of the way. If Perez is pitching well for 4 innings, it would indicate he has command of his pitches and he can pitch longer. If he is having problems, we'll see it way before then. When he's hot, he's hot. When he's not, he's not. Later

Edgy DC wrote: ="MFS62"]="metirish"]Hey maybe Pedro gets those extra mph back that he lost over the last few years... That has reportedly happened a lot after rotator cuff surgery. Later Are there any examples? One immediately comes to mind. When the Mets signed Jae Seo, he threw a 91-92 MPH fastball. After his surgery, I read stories that his fastball was clocked at 94 MPH. And the article indicated that it was not uncommon. It went on to say that before the injury, the pain caused by the deteriorating cuff may have kept the pitcher from "letting it all hang out". After surgery, with the pain gone, they were able to do it. The new, freer motion obviously helped, too. They mentioned a few other pitchers, but I have forgotten who they were. Later
  19. Edgy DC wrote:"Why do they call it 'bunting'? It doesn't bunt. It doesn't do anything. It just hangs there."Bunting refers to the light weight cloth from which flags and other draped things are made. It has become a generic description of those things.Later
