Vic, of all the reserves who will be in camp, I think Easley is the one who will be on the 25 man squad come opening day. He is the most versatile of all the players trying for a spot in camp. He hits right handed, with decent speed and power, and can play both infield and outfield defense fairly well. He could provide a good platoon with Valentin at second or with Green in right. If Anderson Hernandez makes the team, it would be as a regular if Valentin couldn't play, IMO. Later

The announcers were gushing about how good Anderson Hernandez has looked. They said he may have been hurt by seeing how Jose Reyes has developed power at such a young age, and had been trying to do the same. But they said that the power will come, and that he should just keep doing what he has been doing (putting the ball in play). Also - that extra inning game went 18 innings. Alberto Castillo caught all 18, and then caught the 9 inning game the next day. Anyone know if he has been signed by a ML team this year? There has to be a place for a very good defensive catcher like him on some major league roster. Later

Someone called up Steve Somers on WFAN last night with a suggestion that they hold the 2008 Home Run Derby at Shea the night before the ASG. It would make it part of a "New York" event and show some props to the about-to-be-replaced Shea. Thoughts about the idea? Later

Relax, KC. The Colliseum construction is being delayed because they're reviewing the plans. It seems someone noticed that the left field line is going to be very short (about 250 feet). So they'd have to erect a high screen if they didn't change the plans. Later

Since we're in a UMDB state of mind, is there a way to get at Mets players by birth date? Later

I'm just waiting for the related story - that Omar has been having dinner with the parents of the best 14 year old outfield prospect in Ghana for the last two years. Later

Some news about an invitee: ]William Collazo pitched 4 perfect innings, allowed his first run in the 6th, after 21.2 scoreless innings, and helped the Gigantes de Carolina win 10-2 over the Lobos de Arecibo in the PR Winter League championship best of 9 series. Later

]Auburn Mets (New York-Pennsylvania League, D) Wow! That was a memory jogger. For you younger folks, minor league levels used to be AAA, AA, A, B, C and D.(No rookie leagues) Maybe someone complained that it was harmful to the self esteem of citizens of cities that were considered "D" cities. So the level structure was changed to what it is today. Later

I think I read that Sosa signed a contract that guarantees him a spot on the 25 man roster. Can anyone confirm that? Later

Seems to me that there are currently a lot of sportswriters employed by some of the local papers who are impersonating sports writers. Later

From today's NY Post: Today in Venezuela, the Mets will see Victor Zambrano throw for the second time, according to agent Peter Greenberg. The Mets are one of five or six teams, according to Greenberg, who are interested in Zambrano and the pitcher - who had Tommy John surgery last May 15 - could possibly have a decision later this week.

Hey, I have a rule. With all the spouses, parents and parents-to-be here (see self-promotion forum) , and with folks with multiple screen names, how about a rule of one vote per household? Later

]Her most spectacular trick is to segue from a piercing baby-voiced cry into a light operatic coloratura and back, maintaining perfect intonation as she pirouettes around high C. That brought back painful memories of the old Ed Sullivan TV show. Before he actually booked "pop" singers and saw how successful that was, he used to book opera singers and have them attempt popular songs of the day. They never could break from the operatic mold and ended up both ruining the songs and looking foolish while doing it. Sounds like they shudda' had Kristin back then.Later
