  1. Which reminds me... Does Daniel Murphy need a nickname? Murph is taken, and should be retired. I've heard "The Irish Hammer", but I don't think he has exhibited enough power to earn that one. B'sides, isn't that Bushmills? Sooo, what would you nickname him? Inquiring minds, etc.... EDIT: Mods, please feel free to split this into a separate thread if you feel it warrants it. Later
  2. They finished in sixth place. Can't be done any more, since there are only four teams in a division. Later
  3. About the answer. Is this something that when we hear it, we'll slap ourselves in the forehead and say,"Shit, how could I not know that?" Or is this something really obscure? Later
  4. ="Kong76":5qjhe3un]I didn't click on the link, so I don't know if I'm repeating here ... They said on the broadcast today that the game will set a college attendance record previously set with a similar game in San Diego when they opened. It's another good opp for NY's to check out the new ballpark. Who really cares if a Hoyanomoiya throws the first pitch or a Johnny?[/quote:5qjhe3un] Nobody really cares (actually, John Franco will throw out the first ceremonial pitch). But if St. Johns is the home team, then their pitcher would be the one throwing the first game pitch, since the Hoyas would be up to bat first. So, this seemed to be an error by the News editorial writer. That's all. Later Kong76 Mar 28 2009 04:33 PM I misunderstood, I thought the beef was Queens based St. Johns wasn't the home team. I'm sorry, I just avoid the News and Post most days so I by- passed the link and probably should have just clammed up. holychicken Mar 30 2009 09:31 AM I went to the game. Was upset that a guy from Georgetown (which was the "home" team. . .at least they batted in the bottom half of the frame) hit a homerun and the apple didn't come up. I booed. While booing, I figured I was doing my part to help prep the stadium for the boo-birds who will inevitably turn on K-Rod the first time he does not convert a save. Edgy DC Mar 30 2009 09:49 AM It should be a rule that aluminum bats are unallowed in pro ball parks. how underwhelming was the ping? holychicken Mar 30 2009 10:05 AM It was as underwhelming as "Touch, a boutique for female fans, by alyssa milano" was lame.
  5. Looks like they're trying to either find a permanent position for Malo or see if he can fill a utility role. Later
  6. Tomorrow, the new park will host an exhibition game between St. Johns and Georgetown. Since the game is in queens, I'd guess that St. Johns will be the home team. If so, the editorial from today's Daily News doesn't make sense: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinions/2009/03/28/2009-03-28_insidethepark_homer_mets_new_stadium_is_.html The home team bats second. How will the Georgetown pitcher throw the first pitch? Something seems wrong. Anyone know if, since its an exhibition game, the Hoyas will be the home team? Later

  8. ="Benjamin Grimm":3uuccp5b]Are you implying that the "trainer" was a "boyfriend?" Time for another press conference![/quote:3uuccp5b] No! We're talking the stories about Mike on steroids here. Nothing else intended. Mike is married to a hottie. Those rumors about his sexuality were answered IMO. (Or should I say they have been put to bed?) If one of the kids grows up to have a biblical-scale case of bacne, does that help clear Pops? Benjamin Grimm Mar 27 2009 01:54 PM
  9. Back to Piazza. IIRC he had a "personal trainer" living with him in Spring Training a few years ago. He said the guy prepared meatless meals and "protein shakes". Y'mean that was just a sham? A coverup? Horrors! Later
  10. Gardenhire's 'stache wasn't that bad. Maybe because the color was lighter than the others. Later

  16. They got tossed out of a game by Lee (the anti-Mets bully) Weyer? Later
  17. The different way the ball sounds coming off the bat when you hear it on radio or tv. This has nothing to do with smaller parks; the mic being closer to the action. The ball just has a different sound, like an exasperated sigh, waiting for the real games to start. Later

  19. Watching ESPN and they said that Arthur Richman has died. Can't find a link yet. Later
  20. I worked with a guy who was a long time friend of MArty Appell. Marty worked in the YAnkee PR office for many years. My friend told me that not all the members on those "great" Yankee teams were great. Marty told my friend that Horace Clarke had severe shortcomings. Later
