  2. Two more home runs last night, and a shout out: From # 8 on BAs hot sheet. No. 8 REESE HAVENS, 2B METS Team: Double-A Binghamton (Eastern) Age: 23 Why He's Here: .360/.560/.840 (9-for-25), 3 HR, 1 2B, 1 3B, 6 RBIs, 6 R, 5 BB, 6 SO The Scoop: As discouraging as it was to see Havens miss yet more time with injury this seasonin this case a strained obliquehe's proven to be worth the wait. He homered twice off Orioles righthander Chorye Spoone and once off Indians reliever Bryan Price this week, while continuing to show a discerning batting eye. That's not an anomaly. Power and patience have been Havens' strong suitshe has walked in 12 percent of his minor league plate appearances while boasting a .199 isolated power. For a middle infielder in the New York-Penn, Florida State and Eastern leagues, that's pretty darn good. Taken four picks after Ike Davis in the 2008 draft, Havens just might join Ike on the right side of the Mets infield later this season. Later

    GMJ GONE

I'll try to answer some of the questions in this thread: Why a catcher? Because I heard that Blanco is slightly banged up. Why Santos from Binghamton? Because there are only two catchers on the Buffalo team, Thole and JR House. And Thole is day to day from a concussion from a batter's backswing. Why not Feliciano? Because the only other centerfielder on the Buffalo team (at least, the only other one you'd want to see play there), Pridie, is on the DL. I hope that when Pridie returns, and Blanco feels a little bit better, we'll see Santos go back down and Feliciano brought up. But, since Pridie is on the 40 man roster, who knows? Later

This is so sweet I think I just got a cavity. Not as sweet as winning the the NY Lottery. Man, I'm sick of hearing that commercial. Later

Actually, I think his earning power has just gone up tremendously. Everybody loves how he handled the situation with such class. I think this is going to translate into endorsements and will serve him well in future contract negotiations. I told my husband last night that his agent must be in heaven right now, because this kid is totally marketable. Plus, baseball fans have long memories of weird stuff like this. I'd bet Harvey Haddix is still remembered for his 13 inning "non-perfect game" over 50 years ago more than some of the pitchers who pitched a perfecto since then. Later

  7. IIRC, when owner Joan Payson was told that the Mets had scored 19 runs in that game, she asked, "Did they win?" Later
  8. Fman99 wrote: Nice work JoePet. I like the idea of the dunking booth for Ollie. But I'd fill it with partially hardened concrete instead of water. And its a great way to scout the potential relief pitchers in the stands.(# 6) LAter
  9. How do you know you're having a bad year? When you give up 3 ER in 4 IP and LOWER your ERA. (Like he did last night) Later
  10. Not a big shocker. When I last saw the NL leaders in the offensive categories (about a week ago) there were only a few Mets sprinkled in there in triples, stolen bases and IIRC Wright was 5th in RBI. No leaders in any category. If out of town fans compare those to the All Star ballot, there's no compelling arguement that would make them vote for a Met player. Later
  11. Hopefully, this won't be the only time Mets fans will catch a glimpse of J. Feliciano playing in the outfield this year. Later
  12. Last night, he went 3-4 with 3R, 3 RBI and 2 HR. He's now hitting .351. Later
  13. "Bidding against themselves" for Ollie and Cora. Later
  14. Day game today in Buffalo. Dillon Gee against some guy named Strassburg. Last night's game had a 2 hour rain delay. The announcers were saying that by the time it ended, the fans might as well wait around for the start of today's game. Later
  15. To NL fans on the East Coast, he was like world peace. He was the ideal that we heard about, but never got to experience as much as we would have liked. Later
  16. Game: Sitting in the Polo Grounds, maybe even the first weekend home stand. I recall I turned to the guy behind me (who had binoculars) to ask who was coming in from the bullpen. He said "Santa Claus". When I turned back to face the field, snow flurries were falling. First overall: Listening to the radio to find out who the Mets drafted in the expansion/creation draft. Later
  17. The Mets can solve the Ollie situation and while they're at it, earn the undying gratitude of an entire nation. They can solve both problems by stuffing Ollie Perez in the leaking oil pipe in the gulf. Don't worry about how big the pipe is, I'm sure Ollie's ego is big enough to fill it. Later
  18. Rivals.com (via Yahoo Sports) is predicting the Mets will take a kid named Covey, a righthanded high school pitcher from Pasadena California. Later
  19. The worst part was that GMJ got a pinch hit. Now Manuel will lobby to keep him around. The rest of the game? It was one of those things to be forgotten. Later
  20. Feliciano is now hitting .404. Later
  21. Sutter, who is in the HOF. And Lee, who should be. Later
  22. They didn't call Carlton "Lefty" for nuthin'. And I voted for Koosman, just because he was Jerry Koosman. Later
  23. If I wanted one pitcher, to win one game, I voted Gibson. Later
