  1. Until the case is formally heard in the new venue, I'm not sure if the amount they are going for is going to be any less. Later
  2. The goal is to have guys feel good about themselves when theyre done, he said. I think the most important thing is to throw strikes and make the hitters comfortable. Theres a certain speed you have to deliver the ball at. Its a fine line. But you want to help guys feel confident. So, if he doesn't deliver the ball the way they like it, does he get a Mulligan? 3. His last three eighth inning appearances have sure given the fans a thrill. Later
  4. Hoorayy! According to Inside Pitch (subscription service), Satin has been promoted to Buffalo. Later

Dear Lance Blankenship Fan, Upon reading that post, it seems that the poster was thanking you for your explanation and was laughing about your comment to ignore the factor. I did not detect any malice or sarcasm, nor do I think any was intended. Sincerely, Abby

Net games back is something I've concentrated on in past years. It's the nunber of games you are in back of everybody. ... the fourth-place Mets are still 6.0 games back of Philadelphia, but a net 14.0 games in back of everbody (Phily, Atlanta, and Florida), and their climb is much steeper, because even if they win while the Phillies are losing, Atlanta and Florida will have to lose also, and that's further challenging because sometimes they will be playing each other, or the Phillies and they can't both lose on such days. Thanks. Got it! Now I can gladly ignore the 1.75 factor. Later

Benjamin Grimm wrote: I can't speak to the multiplier, but as for net games, I think that's something that Edgy came up with. Look at it this way, it's one thing to be 5 games behind and in second place, but it's another thing entirely to be 5 games behind and in fourth place; you have three teams to pass instead of one, and even if the first place team falters, there are two other teams better positioned to take advantage of that. The Net GB attempts to address that. Thanks. Being behind multiple teams - makes sense some adjustment factor might be required. I'm still not sure if the 1.75 factor has to be changed depending on how many teams you trail. Later

I'm optimistic they'll stay in the hunt for the wild card. Can you please explain the use of the multiplier and the "net games" term? Why isn't the games behind figure sufficient? Remember, I'm still trying to figure out all the new stats. Later

Didn't the 1969 team come from 9 games back in August to win it all? I voted 9.5 games, but anything's possible. Later
  10. As per ESPN.com: Buffalo center fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis underwent season-ending shoulder surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder to repair the labrum. Later
  11. And while Izzy is closing, Parnell has slid quite comfortably into the "scare the crap out of the fans in the eighth inning" bullpen spot. Later

  13. It must be his age (26 yrs old) that is keeping that on-base streak going. Every decent Mets prospect aged 25 and younger is injured. Later
  14. There have been two other guys named Freese who played infield in the major leagues. This guy on the Cards isn't related to either of them (as per Baseball-Reference. com) Later

Beltran, lf Maybe you're onto something. If a player suffers from multiple personality disorder, can they bat more than once in the lineup? Hey, Commish, we need a ruling here. (Maybe they can fake some medical records here) Later
  16. Ashie62 wrote: Is there anyone who would take Bay's friggin contract?...no prospects in return even.. If they would try to unload Bay's contract (who wouldn't?) they're currently in the position of the poker player who is down a lot of money. Does he keep playing, hoping to get some return back? Or does he stop, and cut his losses now? Later

  18. An entire team was taken away from me. The loss of one player wouldn't have the same effect. Later
  19. He doesn't seem to be progressing over last year, when he showed an excellent approach at the plate - Wait deep into the count, the hit the ball where its pitched. He seems to be doing the same things this year, without the results of last year. Maybe he will follow in the footsteps of a similar major league catcher who taught that approach to others - Charlie Lau. Its tough to evavuate his defensive progress, since he's been catching a knuckleballer. Later
  20. Pfuck him, he's a Phillie. Once he steps onto the field in that uniform, heartwarming don't mean shit. Later
  21. When asked to name the best ever PTBNL, Buster Olney said "Jessee Orosco is the first who comes to mind". I'll take one of those, please. Later

  23. Beato has shown the stuff. But IIRC earlier in the year there were several quotes from members of the organization that they are planning to send him to AAA next year (once the Rule V restriction is ended) to complete his Jedi training as a starter. Of course, that may have been before Gee came up and the starting staff settled down. Later

  25. Frayed Knot wrote: IIRC, PtBNLs need to be at a different level than those they're traded for - meaning that neither is a ML player at this moment. Except when a player is on the DL. So, it is still possible at least one of the players may be a major leaguer. Later
