  2. Back in the 60's, there was folk (Leadbelly), Pseudo-folk (Chad Mitchell Trio), protest (The Weavers, Dylan, Ochs) and there was one group I really liked who were good at all three, The Limelighters. A friend and I went to see Ochs perform in Washington D.C. (Should there be a second period there?) We were in the Army, and to say our clothing and haircuts made us stand out in the crowd was an understatement. I hadn't heard about this movie, but now will try to find it. Later
  3. Two hits, including a double, for your kid. He also had two errors. I chalk it up to the jitters. (One was listed as a missed catch) Later
  4. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/31736/in-depth-depos-state-of-the-farm Very encouraging. Later
  5. Buffalo lost in extra innings. I listened to the end of the game. Bottom of the 11th, one out, runners on first and second. The ball is hit back to Mike O'Connor on one quick hop and he THROWS TO FIRST. The announcers couldn't believe it, a sure 1-6-3 DP and he's out of the inning. Instead, he walks the next guy to load the bases, followed by a grounds rule double (credited as a single because the batter stopped before touching second). Game over, thank you for coming. Yuchhh. F-Mart had two hits and played right field, so his legs must be feeling ok again. Later

  7. I'd prefer that neither of them have a starting role in CF on the 2012 Mets. I hope the Mets can upgrade at the position. But a lot of players will be auditioning for spots on next year's club. Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. We've seen Pagan make the same mistakes in the field and on the bases over and over. It may not be insanity, but he sure is "baseball dumb". So let's give Pridie (or someone else) a chance. My position is more anti-Pagan than it is pro-Pridie. That's all. Later

Who is to say that if Pridie had been in the majors as long as Pagan has, that he would or wouldn't have developed into the hitter that Pagan has? Bill James has said that it takes at least 500 major league at bats to see what kind of player you have. Pridie has fewer than 150. Later
  9. Pagan is Pridie, with more major league at bats. I'd rather Pridie be given those at bats going forward. At least he might not do dumb things in the field and on the bases. And if he does them, he might not do them again. Not to say either of them is an every day major league centerfielder. But until one can be acquired or developed from within, why not Pridie? Later
  10. What kind of miracle can a burger perform for $45? Later
  11. Ashie62 wrote: Fmart..mild arthritis in right knee. http://www.metsblog.com/2010/11/30/fernando-martinez-mild-arthritis-in-the-knee/ I guess I can give them a pass on that one since it is old news. Never saw that before. Thanks, Later
  12. Ashie62 wrote: If Fernando Martinez has been diagnosed with arthritis can he even be an everyday player? I've noticed that Martinez has been DH-ing lately. But the Bisons' announcers haven't told us anything about that. Is it really arthritis? Edgy is right. The grass at Citi can't be any harder than the grass at Coca-Cola Field (the Buffalo Stadium). Let's get him up here and find out what he can do. He's 22 years old now, and tempis fugit. Later
  13. That was funny. As an extra added bonus, I hadn't thought about Wes Covington for years. Later
  14. Couldn't pin the loss on Mariano, but that's ok. They still lost. And a few kudos for ex-Met Marco Scuttaro, who went 4-4. Later
  15. Ashie62 wrote: Would you tell us how you really feel? I'm more concerned about how Murphy feels than how I do. Any new word on the severity of the injury? EDIT: just saw magadan's post that DAn will be DL'd. Later
  16. After he pumped his fist in the air when he threw out the final runner, someone should have run out of the stands and hit Chipper in the groin with a fire axe. Bush league smirking mother-fucker. Murphy was spiked just above the knee, but I don't know if it just a gash or something more serious. Later
  17. That numbers thing bothers me. (Great pics, BTW). What if a player IS wearing the same number as a current Yank all the way up throught the organization and they retire that player's number before the player makes the majors? (I can think of a lot of things that can make Jeter eligible for that happeneing in only a few years, one being struck by a meteorite, another flying his private plane into a building near the East river.) And what if they have two prospects wearing the same number who both make the majors? Who gets to keep it? Silly. Later
  18. Larry and McCann are both out. How can they let a career-long virulent Met killer like Uggla drive in two runs? I just got home and didn't hear the game. Could they have pitched around him? I know, they would have lost 2-1. But still .... Later
  19. That made me check back to the 1912 Pirates, who were led by all-time single season triples leader J. Owen (Chief) Wilson, who had 36. They had 129 triples and 39 homers. I'm guessing your "dead ball era" will have many more teams who did that back then. Later
  20. Beltran. And the number will be the answer to a trivia question many years from now. Later
  21. Baseball has been very clear in its no gambling/ associating with gamblers stance since the 1919 Black Sox Scandal. That said, that stance didn't seem to bother MLB when Del Webb and Dan Topping owned the Yankees. Their other buisness was building gambling casinos in Las Vegas. I was hoping that one day we would see this kind of story about Jeter. Sigh. Later
  22. That's like something a twelve year old would do to his seven year old brother's pee wee team to show them what NOT to do when playing infield. Later
  23. Derek Jeter doesn't make the ads around his better. Later
  24. I've read about that prediction of an arm injury for Wheeler before. (subscription site) It stems from his motion, in which his pitching arm and his glove arm both have the elbow higher than the hands. It is called the "inverted W". I don't know why it isn't just called the M. Mark Prior is the latest example of pitchers using that motion experiencing serious arm injuries. Later
  25. I saw the Binghamton team play when they had Otero, Vina and Veras on the team. It also had Butch Huskey. He looked as tall as the other three combined. Later
