  1. Luis Aparicio just got in before they cared (or knew) about OBP. Later
  2. It seems that Lucas is becoming a little more comfortable with speaking to the press. When he first came up you couldn't drag words out of his mouth with a tractor. Now he is talking more, and some of what he says is kind of funny. Later

  4. I guess back in Boston, they didn't know that Spahn would make the HOF one day. If they had, they might have actually taken his picture instead of using an artist's drawing. Later
  5. Without pitching an inning, its a tough call as to whether he beats out Aaron Ledesma. But Ledesma went on to hit .296 for his major league career, mostly with other clubs. Later

There is? Then in a few short years they'll be naming the award after Juan. Later
  7. If someone were to offer Werth a contract to become a sportscaster, starting immediately, I wouldn't object. Later
  8. He pitched a scoreless inning for St Lucie today. Later
  9. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: They should even things out a bit-- have the Braves spend a compulsory night at a Buckhead club, carrying large man-bags, until 2 or 3. They couldn't get out of there until 2 or 3 anyhow, because of the huge traffic jams in Buckhead. Later

    Argo (2012)

Yeah, I was really impressed by the horse's speed in Toy Story. What is the takeoff speed of a 747? I'd really like to be that guy who readily quotes the exact speed to all the other viewers during that scene. http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/performance/q0088.shtml Later
  11. This might not have been mentioned (or noticed) before, But even if it has, it is worth repeating. The MFYs end their season with a three game series against the HOUSTON FUCKING ASTROS! At least we might be able to see Texan Roger Clemens fellatiate both Jeter and Mariano before the final game. Later
  12. Unless the Mets have a heckuva inning, he won't have a chance to score a run in this game. Later
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Hey, Bryce. Smart thinking there. Another assist by Lagares, too. An old baseball axiom is that you shouldn't make the first or the last out of an inning at third. (I wouldn't want to make any out there). So, thank you for trying for third ... PUNK! Is that #12 for Lagares? Later
  14. He finished his first year in the organization last night. The GCL team didn't make the playoffs. Still a kid, he's got to cut down on his strikeouts to move up. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=RF&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=610141 Later
  15. Oops. I'll delete it. Thanks. Later
  16. If you were having deja vu, you were right. Didn't see the same thing earlier in this thread. Duly deleted. Later
  17. Rose, checking Carter's pocket and asking, "You got any loose change? I gotta' call my bookie". Later

Didn't hear it, so I'll guess the Bonds guys. (one guess per post?) Later
  19. I'm pretty sure Vic was named by his parents when he was born. Why did he have to be named later? Shouldn't it be "Player to be Identified Later"? Later
  20. sharpie wrote: My guess on the team would be the post-Heyward Braves. Well then let's do it. Anyone they get back from the Braves will be a future Hall of Famer. Just go on a Braves fan site if you don't believe me. Later
  21. A memorable song from the show Bye Bye Birdie is the opening number - the telephone song, in which all the kids are on their phones talking to each other. I get the image of all the GMs this time of year scanning the waiver wire and doing the same thing. Later
  22. Edgy MD wrote: Let's focus on the positive. Let me know if you find anything. Part of a Jim Bowden article on ESPN. Hidden benefit If you are looking for one silver lining in all of this, its this: Had the Mets finished strong in September, they might have been tempted to go make a rash free-agent signing this winter. Assuming Harvey has TJ, it will remove any temptation the Mets might have had to go for broke in 2014. And thats good, because this years free-agent class led by Robinson Cano, Jacoby Ellsbury and Shin-Soo Choo is somewhat lackluster. Harveys injury will allow the Mets to take a step back and let some of their youngsters develop, and they can really get a feel for the likes of dArnaud, Flores, Ike Davis and Juan Lagares, to see if those are the kind of young position players they can built around. This is obviously a tough blow for the Mets franchise. But when you consider the high success rate of Tommy John surgery and the Mets long-term outlook, this isnt a major setback in terms of World Series potential. If Harvey does the smart thing and has surgery it will certainly take a toll on the Mets win total in 2014, but it wont seriously hinder their hopes for contending in 2015, which was the most realistic scenario all along. 23. If Recker has been moved to NY, it must have been a late flight. He played in the second game for Las Vegas yesterday, batted cleanup, and hit a three run homer. Later
  24. His interim replacement from within the organization? I don't think it will be one of the top prospects because they are on innings limits, too. I'd imagine there will be a lot of pitchers available as waiver pickups by the end of August. But if they don't go that route, my dark horse candidate from within is Giancarlo Alvarado, an ex- Mexican League (and everywhere else) veteran now at Las Vegas: http://www.baseballamerica.com/statistics/players/cards/41721 Later
