Turns out that I was more correct than I thought seeing as how any vote that awards the MVP for pitching a scoreless 8th inning in a three run game is essentially a pre-arranged deal. He would have won it even if he gave up a game-winning grand slam. And he got it only because they couldn't give it to Jeter. Later
  2. My wife took my 2 year old grandson to see it - his first in-theater movie. He loved it and didn't squirm. My wife thought it was cute. I'll ask her how she rated it and update the poll. Later
  3. Was at work and missed the competition. Just saw some video. When a ball was heading toward the stands, the scoreboard showed "BACK ... BACK ... BACK". I guess they thouht that fans attending the game would really miss Chris Berman's call. Later
  4. My vote went to Duda. Later
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Except not in Davis or Duda, apparently. Earlier in this season (maybe in the prediction thread) I wrote that "Davis and Duda would become the most outstanding pair of Ds seen on a baseball field since Morgana". I still hope they can turn their careers around and approach that goal. But if they can't, which is the topic of this thread, and must be traded to improve the team, why can't they be replaced with a new pair for whom I have high hopes? Later

  7. Since MLB honors everything that isn't under investigation, how about having the major league pitcher who has given up the most home runs prior to the All Star game throw out the first pitch of the Home Run Derby? Later
  8. Thanks. Later
  9. Maybe Tony Bernazard was right. Later
  10. Montero started for the International team. Any pics of him? Later
  11. Where's "Trade Both"? Flores(1B) and Puello (RF) will both be ready to become regulars by next year. Use the D boys as trade chips to upgrade the rest of the roster. Later
  12. Edgy MD wrote: Congratulations to Wright. What did he do? Later
  13. Swan Swan H wrote: David Lennon reports that the tarp is on the field at Yankee Stadium, apparently to protect the infield from tears shed over Jeter's MRI results. Badass. Later
  14. Edgy MD wrote: What kind of nonsense play was that? Is there a no-sliding rule for the All-Star Game? I dunno. Maybe there is. They don't want another Ray Fosse injury. Or, more likely, the batter didn't believe my kid had a great arm and thought he could score standing up. Then when he saw the ball was there, it was too late to slide, so he tried to knock the ball out of the catcher's mitt. Later
  15. Carpio Diem. Later
  16. The only reason I even brought it up was because it was the most obvious thing in the world that, no matter what actually happened, Jeter's return was going to be noted as a catalyst. And the papers will be all over this. They will say things like: Look how many runs they scored. He DOES make everyone around him better. And we will barf. Later

  19. Thanks for the props, Swannie. When I hear talk of "colorful players" I remember that quote, too. Later
  20. As the Bard may have said, "An asshole by any other name smells as bad". Later
  21. Focused. Later
  22. As opposed to a pitcher like Kris, she only measured .22 on the gun. Strange. It looked like she's packin' a 38 in that swimsuit pic. Later

  24. I'm setting the over/under for total innings on that trip at 158. And the extra innings will probably be the day games that follow night games. Any takers? Later
  25. ESPN, citing a police report, said that in addition to carrying a handgun and wearing a bulletproof vest, she also entered the home with a hatchet, an expandable baton, a taser and a knife. That reminds me of the old joke in which the mob boss tells the underling, "I want you to poison him, stab him, shoot him, chain him to a piano and drop him in the river. Oh yeah, and make it look like an accident." Later
