  1. Does Ricco have the authority to pull off a trade? It must be more serious than reported for a GM not to delay the procedure until after the meetings. I hope not, and wish him well. Later

And that's why I didn't vote for him. He got lost on me. While he was active, if somebody had asked me to name the 5 or so best players in the game, I don't think he I would have named him. He sort of slipped under my radar. So, I couldn't vote for him. Sorry, Tim. If you were that good, you wouldn't need my vote to get in. My votes went to Griffey, Bagwell, Piazza, Trammell, Kent, Smith, Walker and Hoffmann. Later
  3. The Nehi Niche. The Dr. Brown's Balcony. Later
  4. The term "Classless fucks" comes to mind. Later
  5. Juan Direction because it also mentions a tribute to Yogi. Later
  6. Smith won't be in the AFL All Star game because of an injury that will keep him out 1-2 weeks. I read this a few days ago, but can't find the link. The Mets will be the only team without an ASG representative because SS Gavin Cecchini will be playing for Team USA. OE: found it. It was Rubin: NEW YORK -- First baseman Dominic Smith’s torrid start in the Arizona Fall League is on hold. Smith, a top New York Mets prospect, suffered a strain and may be sidelined for the next week or two. The 11th overall pick in the 2013 draft, Smith had been selected for Saturday’s AFL Rising Stars Game, but no longer is expected to participate. He is hitting .385 with one homer, five RBIs and a .519 on-base percentage through 12 games with Salt River. Smith, 20, is expected to open next season with Double-A Binghamton. He was named the Florida State League player of the year while competing for Class A St. Lucie in 2015. Smith hit .305 with six homers and 79 RBIs in 456 at-bats and also displayed above-average defense. Later
  7. He brought us Sid Fernandez, too. RIP. Later
  8. He got the saves. He got the strikeouts. But his peripherals (ERA, WHIP) weren't that good. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mejiaje01.shtml He should have received the Rolaids award if only because he made Mets fans buy the antacid in large quantities. It seemed (true or not) like every appearance was an adventure. OTOH, he'd probably be a suitable seventh or eighth inning reliever. And his arbitration price will (I'm guessing) comparable to what Sandy would have to pay to replace him. So, if they resign him, OK. If they don't resign him, OK. Chalk me up as a definite maybe. Later
  9. He was at one (maybe more?) of the postgame World Series press conferences, along with Terry and Curtis. And I'm still trying to figure out why. It isn't as though he was a major contributor. Did anyone ask him why he was up on the podium? If so, what was his reply? Later
  10. Didn't there used to be separate threads for discussions about unifirms? IIRC one was called "Uni Watch". Can't something like that be (re)started again? Just asking. Later
  11. I have no idea what this means to both teams, but, Yahoo Sports reporting: The Mariners have sent first baseman Logan Morrison, infielder/outfielder Brad Miller, and right-hander Danny Farquhar to the Rays in exchange for right-hander Nate Karns, left-hander C.J. Riefenhauser, and prospect outfielder Boog Powell. Let the shuffling begin. Later
  12. According to SNY, the Mets have added one-time Seattle first round pick LH pitcher Josh Smoker to the 40 man roster. The story said he was throwing 98 MPH this year (as a reliever) after recovering from arm problems. Later
  13. I'll 'fess up. He was one of the few MFYs I could watch without reaching for the remote. (The only one, actually) I like Curtis the player. Can you think of many other players who have changed their role for the good of the team? He went from middle of the order run producer to effective leadoff hitter. I like Curtis the charitable person, giving time and money to help inner city kids learn baseball and have a place to play it.. He's an all around, well spoken good guy. He has the pipes to easily slide into a front of the mike role in radio or TV. If Bob Gelbs has such a job, Curtis should own the network. Later
  14. David Glass seems a far cry from Ewing Kaufmann, the team owner after whom their stadium is named. Ewing grew up on a farm, and leveraged a $5,000 loan into a multimillion dollar pharmaceutical company. Later, he donated tens of millions to charity. From what I've read about him, his reputation is that of a nice, good and honorable person. People mattered to him. Its a shame that Glass couldn't have carried on that legacy. Later
  15. Wally Backman learned voodoo? Later
  16. Ceetar wrote: You mean Cespedes in your question. Yes, I did. And, thanks for the explanation. Later
  17. A procedural question here. Cespedes was acquired with a clause in his contract that said any team of which he is a member at the end of the season had five days to sign him or not be able to re-sign him until next April. Mets fans breathed a sigh of relief when that restriction was renegotiated. But, IIRC, there was another restriction. Because he played for several teams this year, he is not eligible to receive a qualifying offer. A qualifying offer would entitle the Mets to receive a compensatory draft pick. The reason I'm asking is I have heard several of the WFAN and ESPN talking heads say that if the Mets make one to him and Murphy, at least they would gain a draft pick My question, was that non-compensation waived in Conforto's deal as well? (Or is it mandatory in the CBA?) A huge one year qualifying offer might make resigning with the Mets very attractive to him. Later
  18. Watching Terry manage a game is like watching a drunk go through an entire book of matches before he finally lights his cigarette with his last match. He gets the desired results, but sometimes it is painful watching him do it. He sure makes the IGTs interesting. Later
  19. Oh goody! Now that my gag reflex has almost fully recovered, we will again be treated of those close-up shots of Dusty spitting whichever seeds he has always chewed out onto the dugout floor. Why have the TV directors felt the need to show that to us every time they televise a game in which Dusty is managing? Disgusting. Later
  20. And Don Mattingly. Later
  21. How do I feel today? One way to look at is that it is better to have loved and lost than never having loved at all. The other way to look at that is that must have been said by a loser. It still hurts. Later
  22. Bummed, but anxious to see what Sandy does in the off season. Later
  23. Every baseball fan wishes their team played with the focus and intensity of the Royals. They do all the little things, as well as the big things, to beat you, and they don't beat themselves. Congrats to them. They're damn good. Later
  24. The just released BA top 10 for this year. Don't know if these have been posted on the CPF yet. There will probably be other lists released shortly, but: 1. Steven Matz, lhp 2. Amed Rosario, ss 3. Dominic Smith, 1b 4. Gavin Cecchini, ss 5. Brandon Nimmo, of 6. Marcos Molina, rhp 7. Luis Carpio, ss/2b 8. Desmond Lindsay, of 9. Matt Reynolds, ss/2b 10. Wuilmer Becerra, of I think I read earlier this week that Molina had TJ Surgery. Seeing your #1 prospect as a World Series starter is kinda' kewl. Later
  25. OK, so I didn't clap for Tinker Bell. But of course I believe... in the Mets. Let's go kick some ass, guys. Kill KILL KILL. Later
