  1. Flores has played 20 games (19 as a starter) at first base in the minors. Later
  2. Ka-ching! Spend the newfound money wisely, Sandy. And while you're at it, ask him to talk his old pal into retirement, too. (Before he seriously hurts himself) Later
  3. He was David's longtime pal. That's about it. Later
  4. If he could play center, I have no doubt he would be part of Sandy's stealth plan. (You don't know about it until it has delivered.) But a team that stresses pitching usually needs to be strong defensively up the middle. I'm not so sure that is true with a strikeout/ fly ball staff. I remember when Davey would play HoJo at short when El Sid pitched because he didn't think there would be too many ground balls, and it didn't backfire too often. But if defense is a concern, Upton taking up a corner spot and moving Granderson to center wouldn't be an answer. Damn, if he could only play center! Later

Has anyone ever seen them together in the same room? Just wondering. Anyhow, in answer to the thread title's question, if the final deal is for the $200 million anticipated by the press, he can play anywhere he wants. Later
  8. I thought only giving up Leroy Stanton was too much for that guy. I wonder if Hubie Brooks has this day circled on his calendar. Later

  11. And, IIRC, Wilmer has played him some first base in the minors. Later

Someone asked Sandy if he knew how much, if any, the Mets have received from the insurance coverage of David's contract. He said he didn't know. It's probably none of Sandy's business. When should I stop rolling my eyes? Really? He is the GENERAL MANAGER. He is the one with the budget. He should know how much he has to spend. It IS his business, by the definition of his position. 13. Added to/ removed from "projected Pittsburgh?" You must be tired. Its been a long, exciting day. Later
  14. Gee. I leave you kids alone while I go to work and this is the kind of excitement I find when I get back home. As CF and Thon mentioned above, this makes me think the Mets are very concerned with Wright's health. I like both moves- they got themselves a new keystone combo that can both field and hit for power. (Cabrera had a real hot second half last year, and Walker won the Silver Slugger for 2B in 2014.) This frees up Wilmer to be great insurance for Wright. But don't forget, if David is ok, Wilmer can play first when Duda needs a rest or is in a slump. Incidentally, I saw an interview with Sandy earlier this week on Yahoo sports(it may have been a reprint of an earlier one). Someone asked Sandy if he knew how much, if any, the Mets have received from the insurance coverage of David's contract. He said he didn't know. Maybe he just looked inside the envelope and saw that he has more money to play with than he had thought. I hope so. There's more work to be done. Later
  15. Most of my memories of Niese involve a lot of my screaming at the TV set. The rest is all blurry. Later

  18. I posted this in the Sandy Alderson thread, but its down at the bottom of the page. So, here are my thoughts: Sandy has never ceased to surprise us by doing what everyone thought he couldn't do. While he might not produce two mic droppers, I'm sure he has (cliché alert) planned the work, and he will now work the plan. And I believe the Mets will start the new season with a true platoon centerfielder (maybe a regular with right handed power who can play the corners, too), infield insurance at second and third (Murphy?) and help for the bullpen. And I don't have the foggiest idea who those players will be. But given his track record, in Sandy I trust. I wasn't that thrilled with the prospect of paying Zobrist that much for that many years and I don't think Haywood is the player they really need. Yes he can play centerfield. So can I. But you wouldn't want to see me do it, much less pay me to do it. If they take a run at Upton, I'd be all over that. I still believe, Later

  21. I hope we'll have to wait at least another 50 years before Jeter gets in. Later
  22. I wouldn't donate even $3.00 to Wiki to save or support that page. And if Jeff can't raise the scratch, the team is in deeper shit than we thought. Later
  23. I was thinking of posting something similar, but made sure to take my meds first. I'm with CF on this one. Sandy has never ceased to surprise us by doing what everyone thought he couldn't do. 24. Let's do some math. Last year, the average person attending a Mets game spent $135. (Ticket, parking , concessions) I think I saw it in the WSJ. An increase in attendance of 2,000 people per game would yield an income of over $22 million per year. Won't a good offense to go with their pitching keep them in contention all year, producing that kind of increase in attendance? Would adding a middle of the lineup star hitter for less than that be worth it to management? That's the question they should be asking themselves. Later
  25. We have been pleasantly surprised by moves made by the Alderson team many times. Let's wait and see what happens. Later
