  3. I'm concerned about the distraction aspect of this. Spring Training next year is going to make Bingo Long and the Traveling Road Show look like a stamp show by comparison. If it turns out he can play, it will have been a good move. My first reaction was "Oh fuck, No." After thinking about it for a while, that may have been the appropriate reaction. Sandy, another lefty hitter? Later
  4. Going back to just 40 players is going to be difficult if some of the new additions show they are deserving to stay. Players who are the 60 day DL have to be added to the 40 man roster prior to the Rule V Draft (or whatever its called these days). Later

  7. TransMonk wrote: The 2:15 includes taxiing time and time at the gate, and has a bit of fat in it. Actual time in flight is probably just about 90 minutes. Looks like this is the case. Gelbs said during the game today that the flight from NYC to Cincy took off at 1:12am and landed at 2:33am. The Cincy International airport (which is actually in Kentucky) was voted one of the best airports in the world a few years ago. When I used to travel a lot on business, they kept telling us that on the airport TVs. It is a major hub for major airlines as well as a number of regional carriers. If the flight was that quick, it sounds like they got a good landing slot. Later
  8. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: According to Howie and Josh, Matt Reynolds' seat mate on last night's overnight flight from Vegas kept him up talking. I'm no redeye veteran-- I've only been on two-- but, Jesus Christ, what kind of sociopath even TALKS on a redeye? Terry mentioned Wilmer was "going for the cycle" in the post game interview. He also noted that this is the second time that Reynolds flew to the game on the red eye and then hit a homer in the game. He quipped that he was going to fly Reynolds out of town and have him fly back on the red eye for the next game. Later
  9. Reinforcements will be arriving. From Yahoo Sports: The Mets have called up INF Matt Reynolds from Triple-A Las Vegas and will have RHP Rafael Montero on the taxi squad for Mondaay's game against the Reds in Cincinnati. On Tuesday, OF Brandon Nimmo, LHP Josh Edgin, RHP Erik Goeddel, and infielders Eric Campbell and T.J. Rivera will be promoted from Las Vegas. Additionally, the Mets will select the contract of INF Gavin Cecchini from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. If/when he appears in a game, Cecchini will be making his Major League debut. To make room on the roster on Tuesday, the Mets will transfer INF Neil Walker to the 60-day disabled list. In case you're wondering(I had to look it up), the taxi squad for MLB is for players who are added to the major league roster as the 26 th player for "special circumstances". But its after September 1. The rosters have expanded for up to all the players on the team's 40 man roster. So, why the taxi squad? Why couldn't they have just brought him up? Is it because he won't count against his arbitration (or whatever they call it) time? And, Campbell is still here? Is he the one who has those missing pictures of Jeff's last party in Vegas? Later

  11. Terry had nice things to say about Conforto's center field defense in the post game presser last night. Later
  12. I hope there is no rain delay or extra inning game tonight, with tomorrow's game in Cincy starting at 1 PM. Fuck you, ESPN (and Ichiro, too) Later
  13. Montero is listed as the starting pitcher for Binghamton today. Why isn't he up with the big club? Five scoreless innings in his last major league start wasn't good enough to fill in if DeGrom (or Matz) can't go? Later
  14. Where's Conforto? Did Terry send him out to find Waldo? Later

  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Lefty Specialist wrote: One thing about Montero's start was that he was definitely getting squeezed by the ump (in fairness, both pitchers were). With a bigger strike zone he might have gone longer. Yeah, the mental clicker in my head that "calls" balls & strikes prior to seeing the ump's official call was wrong a whole bunch of times last night; both strikes that I thought were balls, balls that I thought strikes, and across the board in both the top and bottom of innings. And I thought we dodged a bullet when Angel Hernandez, the most incompetent umpire in major league history*, left town after the last series. When Montero started out in the minors, his strength was his control. (It was Bartolo like) I didn't see the game, so his number of walks seemed out of character. Thanks. Later * = IMO
