  2. Great news. The radio in my latest vehicle can't get the Buffalo station (1520 AM) that used to carry their games. My ride home late at night on Rte 684 was perfect signal skip distance to pick up that station. Later

Bauer has never gone on three days rest. The catchphrase here in Cleveland is "In Tito We Trust", but I'm not feeling great about this. I kept hearing the Indians say, "Don't worry. Bauer is a horse. He can do it". Well, if he is, he performed like the kind of nag that looked destined for the glue factory. You have to overcome situations that aren't your fault. I just hope Cleveland can win this tonight in front of all those cretins in YS III. I don't want to take a chance that the MFYs can get lucky in a game 5. Later
  4. 10-3 is the final. I never thought I would be able to use the word "final". The game seemed like it was going to go on forever. Later
  5. I know. The flashback got me. Totally unexpected. Later
  6. Mets Willets Point wrote: enormity (ĭ-nôrˈmĭ-tē)► n. The quality of passing all moral bounds; excessive wickedness or outrageousness. n. A monstrous offense or evil; an outrage. Being a GM is like being Trump, I guess. Yes. But he'd be terrible in our rock and roll threads. He thinks Purple Rain means the hookers were drinking grape juice. Later
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: I think they should hire Bobby Wine as their manager and Cookie Rojas as the bench coach, because who wouldn't want to live through the days of Wine and Rojas? You owe me a new keyboard. Or at least another cup of coffee. But you'll have the same reaction when you notice my Ted Turner vote. Later
  8. If I were doing the interviewing (OK, I can dream, can't I?) the first question would be "describe your toughest loss". If the answer contained any flavor of "we battled", my next comment would be, "Next!" Then, when I ask what they would expect from their players, the key words I'd listen for would be "fundamentals", "Heads-up", "opportunistic" and "Productive outs". That would at least get them to the second round of interviews. Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: Old managers are fun! You should have put them all in Group G, for Geritol. I wouldn't bring in Buck Rogers unless he brought Wilma Deering with him. (Like no other coach in the world) Later
  10. Frayed Knot wrote: And if you didn't see the Encarnacion injury, I'd be shocked if he plays again this year. What happened? At work we were wondering why he wasn't in there against CC when we were able to see the in-game box score. Later
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: One vote cast for the [crossout]man[/crossout] men named 'NOT Matt Williams' Yes, yes, a thousand times this.(Or one for each of the other candidiates, whichever comes first) I voted for Bill "Quail" Virdon, just because he was on the Pirate teams I liked after my team deserted Brooklyn and before the Mets were born. And his 1960 team beat the MFYs in the World Series, too. Later
  12. Lefty Specialist wrote: It's kind of sad, really. I hope Sandy doesn't make off-season decisions based on David Wright's desire to play. This. Decisions should be made based on the prognosis of the doctors. Later
  13. That turncoat Lee Mazzilli should never have the honor of wearing the Mets uniform ever again. Later
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: Lee Elia, if only to hear him rant against our fans. I remember when announcer Curt Gowdy used to pronounce his name eli. (no "ya" at the end) And he did it for years. Later
  15. Why is Mr. Incompetent (Angel Hernandez) umpiring a playoff game? I recall that he was rated the third worst umpire in the majors. There were higher rated options. Later
  16. I'm not sure if given a vote, the relief pitchers would vote for LaRussa. BTW, I wonder what Jerry Dybzinski is doing these days. Later
  17. JD Martinez hit 29 homers in 62 games after joining Arizona mid year!!! According to ESPN radio, he hit 16 home runs in September, which tied the all time National League record held by ........... wait for it...... Ralph Kiner. Later
  18. When Frank Cashen joined the Mets, I remember reading that when he was with Baltimore, he instituted a "playbook" - a procedure manual for how things were to be uniformly taught at every level of the organization. It included how to react in situations on offense and defense. This reduced the need for players to learn new systems as they were promoted through the system to the majors. By the time they reached the majors, things would be second nature to them and they were prepared to do things the right way. Cashen did the same thing when he joined the Mets, down to the detail of having the dimensions of all the team's minor league ballparks modified to conform to those at Shea Stadium (where it was possible). And the Cardinals have had a similar process for years. Maybe someone should find and dust off that manual and implement it again. Later
  19. They only played .500 ball or better in one month (June?) and they were 14-14. Later
  20. Can't wait for group B. If I had to pick one, Vukovich. But only if I HAD to pick one. Later
  21. Frayed Knot wrote: I hope this Hindenberger guy the Twins just brought in from the pen doesn't crash and burn. Nice.(Because we don't award BOCs anymore.) Later
  22. I remember him as a player for the Cards and Phillies, too. RIP, Solly. Later
  23. d'Kong76 wrote: Shouldn't the new head of the training and conditioning staff be able to decide who stays and who goes? Yes. After all the injuries, I expected that someone in the training staff would take a fall. But I thought it would be the conditioning/ exercise guy. Later
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: Not saying that I'd look nearly as good as that while naked and in that pose or anything, but at least I can claim that my blond hair and chest are real. So are hers. And I'll let you wonder if I really know. Later
