  1. What the heck is THIS all about? http://abcnews.go.com/Sports/posada-sidelined-weeks/story?id=52994171 I'm thinking The Onion. Or are we doing the time warp again? The dateline is 2018? Later
  2. Amazing. It took only 44 pounds* of drugs to turn a workhorse into a mule. * 20 kilos, as per Jeff Passan's tweet Later

Its my understanding that you can use a player if he retired the prior year and his card is still active. I've always felt there is something zombie-like about that. Later

  5. The opening lines: Cool as marble, choosing bemusement over anger, Derek Jeter is playing defense from behind a desk. It’s a new position for the former Yankees shortstop. Not really. He ALWAYS played defense like he was sitting behind a desk. Actually, he played defense like he was carrying a desk on his back. Later
  6. I still remember his Baseball Digest rookie report, based on someone who had seen him play in the minors. It said, "Harrelson has good power for a shortstop". Buddy, we hope you saved some of that power to help you fight this terrible affliction. Later
  7. Ceetar wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: Jeter, as DiMaggio did, evokes a casual elegance and commands any space he enters, even one this big. I can't help but wonder how he was able to type that without gagging. I mean, he already had something in his mouth. No more calls, please. We have a winner. Later
  8. Sad to hear about Buddy. I loved to watch him play shortstop. Later
  9. What a shame. The MFYs have been able to find a franchise quarterback and the Jets haven't. Later
  10. G-Fafif wrote: I'm just glad Frazier isn't Moustakas. I love ya', man. That was a great piece. But (blushing) in my heart of hearts, my favorite all-time major leaguer is Frank Robinson, because in addition to his greatness as a player, he was a pioneer in the dugout and the front office. As a Brooklyn Dodger fan who saw Jackie Robinson lead the way on the field, I truly appreciated what Frank did, whether or not he was successful doing it But I'm with you on the rest of it. Go, Todd. 11. Talking about the Mets budget (well, even if you weren't. This is the current number): Mets RHP Zack Wheeler has won his arbitration case against the team, reports Jerry Crasnick of ESPN. Wheeler will earn $1.9 million this coming season. The Mets had filed at $1.5 million. With Wheeler's contract figured in, the Mets' payroll is currently at $146.37 million, according to Cot's Baseball Contracts. Is there room for another pitcher? Only [crossout]Sandy knows[/crossout] the Wilpons know. Later
  12. He fired the mascot!! He's even viler than I had ever imagined. Think of the children, Derek. Later

  14. How does the best shape of Dom Smith's life compare to the best shape of other starting major league first basemen? Or do we even care, if he plays the position very well, while having a small gut hanging over his belt? Later
  15. you know something, as long as we're rounding up the usual suspects, i wouldn't be upset by another go-round with Mr. Dickey! Where do I sign up for that? With Ferrari, the fat gent in the corner of the 'Blue Parrot' After all, the buying and selling of human beings is Casablanca's leading commodity. Well, it would be Dickey's second time with the club. So we could ...... wait for it ....... play it again, Sam.* Later * i know, I know. Its wasn't really said in the movie, but people think it was. https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=A0LEV1GTgXtaCTQAIwpXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTEyY2cyb2trBGNvbG8DYmYxBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDQjUwMjZfMQRzZWMDc2M-?qid=20060611102318AACqtiK

  18. I'd say she looks more "there" than "here". Maybe even out there. Later
  19. Ahhhhh. Now all is clear. Didn't remember the reference. Later
  20. Benjamin Grimm wrote: No, the Post doesn't wait for News covers! They're simply referring to the same event, in their own way. The "thumbs down" thing is public knowledge. The Post doesn't need to get it from the Daily News. Funny they both referred/ used it on the same day for the same topic. Thanks. Later
  21. Benjamin Grimm wrote: "Thumb on Down" rhymes with "Come on Down" and is also a reference to the "Thumbs Down" guy on the Daily News cover. I figured the first one. Didn't realize the Post waits for the News covers before they publish.(Do they do that often?) I'll still say, "Screw you, Rupert Murdoch". Later
  22. What the F does "Thumb on Down" mean on the Post page above? Are they negative about the deal? (I'll give it a 30% probability) Are they sad the MFYs didn't get him? (my 30% probability) Are they doing something to get us to buy that rag to find out? (40%) Screw you, Rupert Murdock, I'm not spending money to help you support Donald Trump. Later
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Go get Joey Votto and let's complete the rebuild of the Dusty Baker-era Reds. I'd rather Big Red Machine-type Reds so we wouldn't have to look at Dusty Baker spit sunflower seeds in those closeups, but I'll take some of that era's Reds mojo. Later
