  1. Hey, didn't I just congratulate both of you in another thread? Or do I have to check my meds? Anyhow, kudos. Later
  2. To me, Peter Alonso fits/ sounds better than Pete Alonso. My wife heard this on the radio and asked why anyone should make a big fuss about this or even care. I tried to explain that this is important because we're talking about a player on my favorite team, to no avail. Anyone who wants to come over to my house and explain to my wife why this is a matter worthy of discussion is more than welcome. Later
  3. this is horseshit. I don't know whether I'd give it the "h" word, but it is definitely cold. But the point is valid, the starting staff could use some experienced depth. Later
  4. Edgy MD wrote: It's not, really. He's the muscle coach. He's in charge of helping the players build strength and conditioning. Chicklo is the health coach. Ideally the muscle coach and the health coach aren't working at cross purposes, but it doesn't always work out that way. I know. I was thinking that if he instructs the players to stretch, build and exercise the muscles the proper way, it will result in fewer time lost due to hamstring and other muscle pulls. Whether he or Chicklo does that isn't really clear. Probably together, as you said. Later
  5. I think he'd better do a good job keeping the players on the field by preventing physical problems and helping them fully recover as quickly as possible. Oh, wait! That's his job. Later
  6. So sad. My favorite Brooklyn battery was Newk and Campy (Roy Campanella). Now you guys can play pitch and catch again. RIP Later
  7. 30 games in September. .240 - 6 - 18 The rust will show. Later
  8. =seawolf17 post_id=3067 time=1550499841 user_id=91] .290/.360/.470, with 28 home runs and 122 RBI en route to a surprise fifth-place in the NL MVP balloting.
  9. Ish win, san losses, Ni.chi san ERA. * That's 1-3, 2.43 ERA back in the states. Later * = my humble attempt at transliteration from how I've heard those numbers pronounced.

  11. Edgy MD wrote: Everybody say hi to Jeff W.! Welcome, rookie. Now climb up on that virtual table in the middle of our clubhouse and sing your school fight song. Oh, and, did anyone tell you that you have to carry our luggage on the first road trip? Later
  12. =41Forever post_id=3008 time=1550332406 user_id=69] With a year under his belt and Jim Riggleman as a mentor, the deep end of the pool won't seem as scary. He'll have this season to prove himself and will do fine.
  13. Vic Sage wrote: SHAZAM! S - wisdom of Solomon H - strength of Hercules A - stamina of Atlas Z - power of Zeus A - courage of Achilles M - speed of Mercury I can't wait for that movie. Later
  14. He's out of options, according to mlb.com. As if that means anything in his case. Later
  15. His stat line for the Mets this year will be blanco. Later
  16. I still think the best addition to the team will be Jim Riggleman as bench coach. I remember we had post game discussions last year when we were wondering why Callaway made a move that we felt was odd (I'm being diplomatic. Some of them were WTF moments) and we chalked them up to a rookie manager's mistake. I believe Riggleman will bring a more experienced managerial perspective to the bench. Later
  17. They need new lyrics to a baseball classic. http://www.mysuncoast.com/2019/02/13/minor-league-ballpark-bans-peanuts-cracker-jack/http://www.mysuncoast.com/2019/02/13/minor-league-ballpark-bans-peanuts-cracker-jack/ It was only a matter of time. sigh Later
  18. Harper's agent has said he won't take a "short term" deal. https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/bryce-harper-rumors-free-agent-slugger-wont-consider-short-term-contract-offers-from-suitors/https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/bryce-harper-rumors-free-agent-slugger-wont-consider-short-term-contract-offers-from-suitors/ But its Boras, so maybe that's posturing. Of course, he has also had one of his clients sit out a year, so who knows? Later

  20. My dollar and two cents on Frank Robinson http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/02/08/towering-and-enormous/here. That was beautiful, man. I'm fah'klempt. Later
  21. A right-handed hitting outfielder with power. (my spell checker did not recognize righthanded as a word) Can't hurt. Later
  22. Peter Alonso, especially if we're talking first half. He's going to explode on the scene with a flurry of long home runs and big hits. Maybe one (I hope not) SI cover. He might cool off as pitchers learn more about him, but I think that first half is going to be a doozy. Later
  23. Stick him at first base and leave him there - for 15 years. Make Dominic Smith a distant memory - the answer to a far future trivia question. Later
  24. Which leads to a question. If a player cannot perform because of mental illness for a short period of time (unlike Cleveland first baseman Tony Horton, who never came back from a breakdown) is he injured or disabled? Later OE: Or should this be moved to the re-naming of the DL thread? Pete Harnisch spent some on the DL with depression, IIRC. Mental illness is an injury/disability like any other, I'd say. Yes, it is definitely a disability. But is it an "injury"? The question was about semantics and the name of the list. Later
