  1. Most HRs by a team in a single season was 225 entering 2019. This year, the Twins already hit 287 HRs. Oh, and the ball's not juiced. "Oh, of course not" (sez MLB). It's that darn launch angle swing everybody's teaching. Later
  2. Starts tomorrow. https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/arizona-fall-league-announces-2019-schedule/https://www.baseballamerica.com/stories/arizona-fall-league-announces-2019-schedule/ Several Mets top prospects will be on the Scottsdale Scorpions, including my adoptee from the old CPF board Thomas Szapucki.(Do I have to re-adopt him here?) https://www.mlb.com/news/2019-arizona-fall-league-rostershttps://www.mlb.com/news/2019-arizona-fall-league-rosters This has been posted as a public service announcement for all of you who have given up on the Mets. Later
  3. Water doesn't boil faster at Coors Field than leads disappear. Later
  4. Edgy MD wrote: They should be assigning the umps, except for Angel Hernandez, and regulating the height of the grass and dimensions of the infield, and that's about it. I fixed that for you. Now, back to our rant about MLB. Later
  5. Joe Torre, traitor to NYC: https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/joe-torre-explains-why-mlb-wont-let-mets-wear-first-responder-hats-on-911/310758556https://www.sny.tv/mets/news/joe-torre-explains-why-mlb-wont-let-mets-wear-first-responder-hats-on-911/310758556 Mariano Rivera added 50 points to his baseball I.Q. Unfortunately, nothing can be done with the actual I.Q. the cretinous slug was born with. Later
  6. Hey folks! There's a game going on. 2-0 good guys on a Nimmo 3 bagger. OE: Edgy just beat me to the news. Later
  7. Most business courses will tell you it costs ten times more to get a new customer than to retain an old (dissatisfied) one. They would also say to retain that dissatisfied customer, you offer a price decrease, not an increase (surcharge). This is not only offensive, it is textbook stupid. Later
  8. Michael Lorenzen started in center field for the Reds against the Diamondbacks on Saturday. The Reds are giving Lorenzen a real chance to prove his mettle as a two-way player. He pitched two innings of relief Friday night and was unavailable as a pitcher on Saturday, so they took the opportunity to get his bat and his glove in the lineup. He went 0-3. Lorenzen is their best defensive outfielder with the possible exception of Nick Senzel, who is out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury. As a pitcher Lorenzen has a 3.12 ERA with six saves and 79 strikeouts in 78 innings. He can reach 100 miles per hour with his fastball. As a batter he is slashing .259/.333/.444 in 30 plate appearances. Later
  9. Alex Grammas, 93, Sparky Anderson's third base coach with the Reds and a Tigers, as well as manager of the Brewers pre-Bamberger. IIRC, in those pre-PC days, Grammas was referred to by TV announcers as "The Golden Greek". Later
  10. I said this at the end of the IGT, but this is the proper thread for it and it bears repeating: Pete Alonso did more to remember 9/11 than Derek Jeter did in his entire career. https://www.tmz.com/2019/09/12/pete-alonso-new-york-mets-911-nypd-cleats/https://www.tmz.com/2019/09/12/pete-alonso-new-york-mets-911-nypd-cleats/ He gets it. Thank you, Pete. If MLB can't step up to the plate on the caps, then the team should wear these cleats every year on 9/11. We must never forget! Later
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: If I were the replay umps I'd have turned down that challenge even if the evidence showed otherwise, just to reward Bellinger for the hustle and to punish Lockett for his laziness. Plenty of punishment to go around for this one - a lot of flat Schaefer, just like their performance. Later
  12. If Diaz doesn't pitch in this game, we know he floating in the sewer deep beneath the Empire State Building. Later
  13. While we're talking about homers, and with Conforto hitting # 30 today, what is the team record for most homers in a season by two teammates? Later
  14. =ashie62 post_id=21757 time=1568320338 user_id=90] Mets have not lost since my give up day.
  15. Is Alonso going to join in the fun today? Later
  16. Pete Alonso did more last night to remember 9/11 than Derek Jeter did in his entire career. https://www.tmz.com/2019/09/12/pete-alonso-new-york-mets-911-nypd-cleats/https://www.tmz.com/2019/09/12/pete-alonso-new-york-mets-911-nypd-cleats/ He gets it. Later
  17. Edgy MD wrote: Nonetheless, he and Sewald both escape with scoreless innings. Now they've got to get Corey Oswald activated. Scoreless innings for everybody! That they bring in Paul Sewage and Bashed-alot to protect a 9 run lead tells me that Diaz is buried deeper in the bullpen than Joe Pignatano's tomato seeds. I think it is great that they had 9 runs on 11 hits on 9/11. Later
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Not necessarily. It could fail to come true much sooner than that. Unless he can be replaced with someone better, I cringe at that thought. Anyhow, I'd like to be around here (or anywhere else) in fifteen years just to find out. Later
  19. =MFS62 post_id=2724 time=1549895334 user_id=60] Stick him at first base and leave him there - for 15 years.
  20. Paraphrasing Animal House: What the fuck happened to the CPF folks I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? We gotta' take these bastards. Now we could do it with conventional weapons, but that could take years and cost lives. No, I think the Mets have to go all out. I think this is a situation that requires a really futile and stupid gesture, like a 9 game winning streak. Now, LET'S GET IT FUCKING DONE! LFGM! Later
  21. The 2019 European Baseball Cup tourney is currently underway in Germany. My German friend the Mets fan tells me that one-time Mets uber-prospect Fernando Martinez is the DH for the Spanish team. Later
  22. Lefty Specialist wrote: Stroman seems to be aiming for membership in the Roberto Alomar Memorial 'Oh NOW they decide to suck' Club. I've called it the George Altman Syndrome for years. Later
  23. Frayed Knot wrote: Eight years younger, under team control for another year, an ERA a half run lower for his career and a full run lower for this season at the time of the deals. Do you really think this requires further explanation? Then let him start pitching like it. Later
  24. I'm waiting for BVW to explain to us exactly why Stroman is better than Vargas. Later
  25. He's like a unicorn. I won't believe he exists until I see him. Later
