  1. I remember when Wade Boggs was criticized for being a "singles hitter". So in his sixth year in the majors he went from single digit homer runs to 24. (Of course , he hit .363 while doing it.) Then, after his "I'll show you" year he went back to single digits.(OK, so one later year he hit eleven dingers) https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/boggswa01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/boggswa01.shtml I'm sure he'll continue to do whatever the pitchers let him do. And I'll take either one. I just hope the new manager will be someone who starts him in the game after he gets four hits. Later
  2. One of the Munificent Seven who toiled behind the plate for the 1962 team. RIP, Sammy. Later
  3. That song would make me proud to be an Astro, too. Go 'Stros! Later
  4. Oh crap! Later
  5. I have no doubt that if it ever aired on TV instead of just radio, the winner hands down would be the 1-800- cars 4 kids ad. Later
  6. Last time I looked it was 4-1 Astros. I was listening on radio driving home from work. But the radio announcer (I don't know which one) said something I hadn't heard or read before. He said that a ball hit to left wasn't a home run because the baseballs used in the playoffs are different from those used during thr regular season. Has anyone else heard that? Later
  7. I guess Howie made up for the three errors he made in the series. Every time LA gets eliminated for the year, a flower grows. Later
  8. Freddy F'n Freeman is hitting .158 for the series. I hope someone in the Mets organization is recording how the Cards are pitching to him. Later OE: burn the tape.
  9. =Gwreck post_id=24085 time=1570653916 user_id=56] Odds that the Atlanta fans do it anyway even if not prompted by the video board?
  10. Makes sense to me. Later
  11. There's a certain sweetness about Wainwright being deprived a playoff victory. Later
  12. Thanks. You're a week late on the birthday wishes. But I guess you were busy designing those fabulous cards. Later
  13. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=23876 time=1570379511 user_id=68] It'd be nice if some of youse, any of youse would actually buy these cards at a store near you to help keep our light on. But youse never give me your money. (Groan.)
  14. Making me reach for the clicker: The stupid guy from Men In Black II doing those car rental ads. Making me want to throw something at the TV (If the clicker is out of reach): When he laughs at his own jokes. Later
  15. =G-Fafif post_id=23854 time=1570338051 user_id=55] Andy Etchebarren, Orioles catcher from their heyday, 76.
  16. Thinking to myself, "Why did he do THAT"? Often screaming it. Lots of times. Later

  18. I'm rooting for, like, 40 oblique strains over the next week. The "greatest baseball fans in the world" against the most obnoxious. Neither fanbase deserves diddly. This series makes me want to fwow up. Later
  19. I cringe while I type this, but I fear the #1 excuse for failure in 2020 will be "We still have Mickey Callaway". Later
  20. The Brewer's surge started when Yelich went on the IL. So, obviously, he is not that crucial to the success of the team. * If BVW is the smart guy he thinks he is, he can make that case and get Chris for the Mets. In the meantime, Go Brewers! Later * = pegged my S/M
  21. Edgy MD wrote: But the first walkoff HOME RUN in Mets history came yesterday afternoon/evening, as Dom Smith capped 2019, with Mets down 6-4 in the bottom of the 11th, And THAT is the answer to the question I asked. Thanks. Later
  22. Is this the first time in their history the Mets have ended a season with a walk-off home run win? If it is, this gets my vote. Later
  23. Edgy MD wrote: . [bIGPURPLE]HOLY FUCKING ASS FUCKING SHIT FUCKING DOM SMITH![/bIGPURPLE] You are a master of the understatement. That was as unexpected as the Spanish Inquisition, and a great birthday present. Later
  24. It would be a nice birthday present. Later
