  1. Sean Reid-Foley pitched one scoreless inning in a rehab start for St. Lucie today, giving up 2 walks, no hits and no strikeouts. Later
  2. Somebody talk Koosman into sticking around for a while. He might be a lucky charm. Later
  3. They're so confident Stroman is going to strike everybody out that they're playing without a first baseman! Memories of Satchel Paige. I love a team with guts like that. Later
  4. I recall that every year for his entire career, Who's Who In Baseball used the same picture of Jerry. In the neck-up shot, he has a silly grin and he is looking up to his left. Even though he became one of the best pitchers in the game, they never changed that picture. Later
  5. We would love to see him pull a Field of Dreams and put his uniform on and pitch again. But he'd would probably lose 1-0. Later
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: =G-Fafif post_id=75714 time=1630103299 user_id=55] Nido activated, Sisco sent down. That's too bad, cuz that Sisco kid was a friend of mine.
  7. A team that (on paper) it looks like they have a chance against. But these are the Mets, so hold your breath. Later
  8. I remember Strom coming up in the Mets minor league system. He went 13-5 in the minors in 1971 and I had hopes he could make it in the majors, even though it was reported he didn't throw very hard. With hard throwers Seaver, Matlack, Koosman and Gentry, I thought a pitcher like Strom could be very effective in the rotation. I was pissed when they traded him for Phil Hennigan. (seems like I've always been pissed off at something) Later
  9. Yes. And weren't we supposed to be forewarned when a link was to a paywall protected site? Later
  10. I was. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that is mine. At least I gave an explanation why I feel that way. I used insights in quotes because "copying other reporters' stories without giving them credit" was too long. I hope it makes you happy to parse my posts about my choice of words, but I'm sure you understood what I meant. Later
  11. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: And you're taking a shot at Peter Gammons, why? I think I mentioned this before. I used to read his stuff back in the day, when he moved from a beat writer covering the Red Sox to a national audience. And then I realized the he knew, in this order: 1) The Red Sox 2) The American League 3) The National League 4) The New York Mets. Nothing he wrote about the Mets seemed true to me. His "insights" were general knowledge if you read the NY papers, but must have sounded original to his national audience. None of his predictions about deals they were going to make came true. So I began to question how well he knew anything else. This article was about an ex-Met, so I considered it through that prism. Hey, I used to like to read Dick Young, who is vilified by many Mets fans. Each to his own. Later
  12. I was going to mention that Peter Gammons knows as much about the National League as FOX personalities know about COVID-19 prevention and treatment, but then I remembered that Houston is an American League club, and has been for a few years. Other than they knocked the MFYs out of the playoffs, Houston being in the AL is one of the changes to baseball I don't like. Later
  13. =kcmets post_id=75687 time=1630072349 user_id=53] Thanks, I was half afraid to ask and that it's already there and it flew under the radar and I'd feel like an utter moe-ronnn.
  14. The Hot Corner wrote: The team managed to do worse than the most pessimistic of predictions. Everybody lost - the folks who participated in the poll and the Mets. Later
  15. Syndergaard pitched at Brooklyn, not St. Lucie. Says he can't throw breaking stuff, by doctor's orders. Yep. https://wtop.com/mlb/2021/08/syndergaard-makes-rehab-start-cant-imagine-leaving-mets/https://wtop.com/mlb/2021/08/syndergaard-makes-rehab-start-cant-imagine-leaving-mets/ Later
  16. Thor pitched in a game for St. Lucie (low A) tonight. He pitched one inning and gave up one run. No report yet on his velocity or if he experienced any arm discomfort. Later
  17. The winner is displayed here: https://www.mlb.com/mets/fans/banner-dayhttps://www.mlb.com/mets/fans/banner-day Good job. Later
  18. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: The DH could solve a few things for us if we still believe in Smith/Davis. (cough) Cano (cough) Later
  19. Haven't given up yet, but the list of catalyst candidates is rapidly diminishing. That last at bat dropped Pete off my list. Later
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: Pop Quiz Which team scores first in a game where One team that gets four hits the first time through the lineup while the other has the first eleven retired? Hint: this is a Mets game I was hoping that would be a trick question. It wasn't. Later
  21. IIRC, Johnny Cueto had some well pitched starts against the Mets back when he was with the Reds. I'm not optimistic about seeing an offensive explosion against him. Later
  22. Batman wouldn't give up. But we just found out that Robin would give it up for Batman. https://nypost.com/2021/08/10/robin-is-bisexual-new-batman-comic-confirms/https://nypost.com/2021/08/10/robin-is-bisexual-new-batman-comic-confirms/ Later
  23. I don't give up on my teams. But they are making that very difficult. The physical talent is there, but they seem to just be going through the motions. They need a brain transplant. Or a new heart. Later
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: And when that stuff conflicts with something in the outside world, as they do all the time, then those viewers (or players: S. Koufax) are going to need to choose how they want to handle it. I agree. I was just venting. But, did you think my Space Lasers comment was serious? Later
  25. I didn't like his grandfather, and I'm not getting too fond of this generation, either. Later
