  1. He was trying to be helpful. What you did was make a wisecrack and then think it wouldn't be as bad when you said you were just kidding. Twice, even when I answered the first comment honestly. I know you thought it was funny, but it wasn't. Later
  2. The telecast isn't going to be delayed unless something happens to ESPN Headquarters in Bristol. Hmmm. I wonder where I put my Space Laser. Later
  3. Is DVR'ng against your religion? Depends on how strictly you interpret doing "no work". I have no problem with it, but I'm sure there are more orthodox scholars would would say it is prohibited. But I think the timing was inconsiderate. ESPN is in Connecticut, not North Dakota. And at least some members of their on-air and production teams are Jewish, ex-New Yorkers and Mets fans*, so I'm surprised they haven't said anything to their management about this. Later * = Linda Cohen and I attended the same High Holiday service a few years ago.
  4. The second night is September 15th, when many Mets fans will be celebrating Yom Kippur and can't/ won't watch TV. Words can't describe my anger. Later

  6. Frayed Knot wrote: You're mixing up Buehler with Bauer. And you are right. Oops. Later
  7. Lefty Specialist wrote: Buehler has been moved back to Friday. Dodgers throwing a “bullpen game” tonight. Dodgers essentially saying "We got this". Buehler was in court all day, testifying in his sexual harassment case. According to WCBS Radio, he won the case, and the Judge did not grant a restraining order against him. Later
  8. When you're talking catchers of that era, my wife thought Steve Yeager was very good looking. Later
  9. MLB.com takes me to Yahoo sports, which still isn't showing the starter for L.A. Later
  10. Something to keep an eye on (from Amazing Avenue 8/18 minor league report): Of note, in that ninth, Francisco Alvarez removed himself from the game after returning the ball to Metoyer. As he was throwing the ball, he grimaced in pain and called over his coaches. He was not in agony and remained calm and collected, so whatever he felt in his throwing arm/shoulder hopefully is nothing serious Later
  11. Frayed Knot wrote: My point is that Familia pitched a full inning while giving up a single; a single single if you will as after that he went through Bryant, Belt, Crawford and Yastrzemski with the only runner coming via an intentional walk and not another ball leaving the infield. Framing that as a 'Blown Save', while technically true under the Covid-ed-Up rules presently in place, is, at best misleading, and at worst is framing facts so as to fit a predetermined conclusion. Actually, my definition of MVP was meant as a joke. Later
  12. Night game in Chavez Ravine. How low must have Chavez' self-esteem been that he felt he had to name a ravine after himself? PITCHING PROBABLES: Mets: Taijuan Walker (7-7, 3.75 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 110 strikeouts) L.A.: Walker Buehler (12-2, 2.10 ERA, .93 WHIP, 162 strikeouts) We got this. Later
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: With the 'Manfred Man' on 2nd rule in play, a pitcher in that situation Not blowing a save is the exception rather than the rule. Not all of them happened in extra innings. But, as Lefty said, a W is a W. LAter
  14. Familia is our MVP - Most Vulturous Pitcher. His book, soon available at a Barnes and Noble near you is titled "How to Blow Saves and Win Games". And who cares? They won! They won! They won the damn game! They're beasts, I tell ya', beasts. (I gotta' check my medications) Later
  15. This must be how the noblemen felt as they were on the guillotine, waiting for the blade to drop. Later
  16. I wonder why ANY free agent starting pitcher would want to sign with the Mets. (money being comparable, of course) It must be frustrating as heck to watch your good efforts go down the drain. Later
  17. Down by 1, a seemingly insurmountable deficit. Later

But will the team be (a)live? Later
  19. The Mets have recalled catcher Chance Sisco from Syracuse because McCann has a bad back. No official word whether McCann has formally been placed on the IL. Later
  20. McKayla Maroney can retrieve my frisbee any time she wants. Later
  21. .500 or bust. Tylor Megill 1-2 3.42 Anthony Descalafani 11-5 3.29 3:45 PM start. We got this. Later
  22. =bmfc1 post_id=74773 time=1629251153 user_id=73] What are the Giants wearing?
  23. I do believe the SFG social media team is trolling us by featuring their first baseman. https://twitter.com/sfgiants/status/1427399267812052994 Those are the fans who boo-ed Willie Mays and cheered Orlando Cepeda. They don't deserve a major league baseball team. Fuck 'em. LGM Later
  24. My favorite Banner Day memory goes back to 1962, when there was no parade, but fans could bring them to the Polo Grounds. The camera panned the upper deck, where they were being displayed, and one of the Mets announcers was reading them off as the camera got to them. Then, the camera briefly showed one that said, "FUCK O'MALLEY" until the director quickly cut to a commercial. Later
