  1. A pitcher winning an award named after Harmon Killebrew? He must be some kinda' good hitter, too. Or did they name their best organizational hitter award after Bert Blyleven? Later
  2. Went to Hartford last night to see the Binghamton Rumble Ponies against the Hartford Yard Goats. When we got there, we found out it was Irish Night. There were dance groups, music, food (the specialty kiosk was from an Irish Pub and Restaurant in Hartford*) and the national flags for both the USA and Ireland were unfurled before the game and both National Anthems were sung. The giveaway as we entered was a replica baseball card of (John Joseph) "Dirty" Jack Doyle - from Killorglin in County Kerry - who made his Major League debut in 1889. He batted .299 over a 17 year career and stole 518 bases (which still ranks # 31 all time) and the picture shows him in a Brooklyn uniform. The card was provided by the Irish American Baseball Society, and if you'd like a free one year membership you can text "IRISH" to 877-358-2891 or log onto IrishBaseball.org/2021 . As for the game, I went there to see three players, 3B Brett Baty, and 3B Mark Vientos (who played first) who are two of the Mets top 5 prospects, and C Hayden Senger, who isn't on the top 20 list but I think will be. He's hitting .310. But Senger didn't play. Binghamton won 6-5 and the guys I was watching didn't disappoint. Both of them got two hits, including a double each. The doubles were as different as you could imagine. Vientos was a line drive to center that hit half way up the batters' eye/ fence to the right of the 392' sign. Baty's was a line drive that caromed off the umpire standing behind the pitcher and went into short center field Baty hustled it into a double. Of course, the best part of the night was seeing my grandson's picture up on the scoreboard. 3. Jon Matlack saw this win in the making hours, maybe years (48 perhaps), before it became reality. That's http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2021/08/01/alls-wall-that-ends-well/my story, at any rate. "I found that as long as they thought you put a good effort forth, you weren't necessarily in a position where you had to win all the time. As long as you weren't slighting the job, you were treated fairly" And that is why (as I have mentioned before) I couldn't stand Roger Craig, and LOVED Al Jackson. Later
  4. =Fman99 post_id=72998 time=1627688187 user_id=86] I love this trade. He's a MLB slugger and an immediate lineup upgrade, OBP/Ks notwithstanding.
  5. The Mets will be having a Banner Day contest this year. We should have a big one for situations like that. It should just say TAKE A (expletive deleted)PITCH! Later
  6. Keith Law came out with his mid season top 50. His rankings were: 8 Francisco Alvarez 28 Rocker !! 36 Mauricio 43 Baty Vientos didn't make his list. But it was a good showing for the kiddie Mets. Later
  7. Very suspicious that they didn't (can't?) name the part of the body that has a medical problem. If it is the arm, maybe that is why he "slipped" to # 10. Does this fall on the Medical staff? I'm anticipating another LOL Mets moment. Later
  8. dinosaur jesus wrote: MFS62 isn't kidding. Ashburn and Coleman were seventh and eighth on the team in home runs in 1962. Ashburn had a career-high 7. He hit as many home runs at the Polo Grounds that year, 6, as he did in his entire career in Philadelphia. (Over half his career home runs were at the Polo Grounds.) Thank you. I guess you have to be a dinosaur to remember that far back. Later
  9. Can we exhale now? Whew! Later
  10. Peterson to the IL (see the injury thread) to make room for Payton. Later
  11. SNY just reported that David Peterson has been put on the 60 day IL with a fracture of his right foot. The injury will require surgery. He was just walking in the clubhouse and felt a "pop". Later
  12. AHA! 'Splains a lot. Thanks. Later
  13. Lefty hitter, was in the MFY org for a while. Last full minor league year (2019)was decent - 30HR in fewer than 120 games. Later
  14. To paraphrase Andy Rooney, "Look at the fine collection of assholes we have named in this thread". Later
  15. Keith Law seems to agree on his midseason top 50. 8. Francisco Álvarez, C, New York Mets Álvarez's bat would play anywhere; he's showing ridiculous power for a 19-year-old, with 10 homers in 56 games and a lot of hard-hit line drives. He wrecked Low-A pitching for two weeks — Low A is not what it used to be, but still, Álvarez hit .417/.567/.646 there — and then moved up to High-A Brooklyn, where he's still taking good at-bats and showing power. The one weakness in his game right now is throwing; he has arm strength but has thrown out just 17 percent of runners this year between the two levels. As long as he stays behind the plate, he's a potential MVP. Later
  16. OK, they're not a direct rival, but after thinking about it for a while, and since Gardner has been taken, I'll change my pick to Yaddy. Later
  17. =nymr83 post_id=72427 time=1627093064 user_id=54] I don't like Bryce and he is probably my modern day choice, but man he is no Larry Wayne Jones
  18. on the bright side, there's a pretty natural branding tie-in that they could do in right field... https://www.kroger.com/product/images/large/front/0001700006837> maybe with freebie giveaways for the luck fans in attendance! So, like the Pepsi Porch, they could have the Right Guard armpit. Later
  19. =seawolf17 post_id=72344 time=1627059425 user_id=91] Okay, I'm all in, then.
  20. Like Seawolf, I want to see who the AA player is. They have at least two of their top 10 prospects at Binghamton. Later
  21. Not too bad. Could have been worse. Later
  22. Thank you, Edgy. After the emotional week you had, I hope this back to normal activity was therapeutic. Later
  23. Rincon is a righty hitter and has shown 15-20 HR power in the minors, but never higher than AA. Later
  24. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=71824 time=1626723111 user_id=68] These Mets pitchers have shown the largest drops in their spin rates since the crackdown: Drew Smith Edwin Diaz Marcus Stroman Taijuan Walker
  25. Can't wait for Edgy's roster update. All the moves might overflow the server. Later
