Let's hope that draft pick turns into something better than a mediocre middle infielder. At least they didn't also lose LeRoy Stanton, Francisco Estrada and Don Rose. Later

Blomberg is very active on Facebook (and probably other platforms) and on his podcast, leading the charge (I didn't want to say "Crusade") to get Munson into the Hall of Fame. He hawks Thurman for the Hall shirts and caps along with his book at his personal appearances and on-line. Later

https://theathletic.com/news/mets-offer-billy-eppler-open-general-manager-position-sources/2tnoBuN1CMHS/Mets offer Billy Eppler open general manager position: Sources IMO, The negatives outweigh the positives in that article. Eppler's Angels teams combined for a 332-376 record. Ineffective pitching, multiple free-agent busts, numerous injuries and the 2019 overdose death of Tyler Skaggs derailed Eppler's best attempts to return the Angels to the playoffs. and But the Angels posted losing records during all five seasons of Eppler's tenure. The team's on-field failings and some stumbles in player development and scouting ultimately led to Eppler's ouster. VS One of his first successful moves was trading for elite shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who won Gold Gloves in consecutive years upon joining the Angels. Eppler also was credited with building the team's first full-time analytics staff and often was commended for how he interacted with players. I'm not thrilled. Later

=Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=81079 time=1637014787 user_id=119] Luis Rojas headed across town to the least of the lesser threads to coach third base.

He's worked for a Law Firm since he left baseball. A cynic (or a late night tv host) might say Cohen is talking to him about representing the team in future sexual harassment suits. But the article says he has "kept his hand in" by representing teams in arbitration negotiations. At least he wasn't an agent like BVW where there might be favoritism or conflict of interest. Later

I am perpetually gun shy of Japanese position players who make the jump to the U.S. It's the Kaz Matsui effect I guess. I'd certainly settle for Hadeki Matsui. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/matsuhi01.shtmlhttps://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/matsuhi01.shtml Later

=smg58 post_id=80844 time=1636480227 user_id=62] Of course Cohen can pay Conforto if he wants, but Cohen can also afford a quality righthanded bat with better defense. My sentimental attachments end when I think we can do better.

The baseball publications have started updating their top ten prospect rankings for each team. Here is the Baseball America list for the Mets: 1 Francisco Alvarez C 2 Brett Baty 3B/OF 3 Ronny Mauricio SS 4 Mark Vientos 3B/OF 5 Matt Allan RHP 6 J.T. Ginn RHP 7 Alex Ramirez OF 8 Khalil Lee OF 9 Joel Diaz RHP 10 Calvin Ziegler RHP The top 8 were predictable, but 9 and 10 are new. Diaz is a 17 year old righty starter who split time between two DSL teams, with a 0.54 ERA and a .755 WHIP. Ziegler is a 19 year old Canadian born right handed pitcher who was picked #2 in the last draft, but hasn't played minor league ball yet. Can this be pinned, so other publication lists can be added as they become available? Later

77 today. One year behind my wife at James Monroe High School, Bronx, NY. And if he hadn't received a kidney transplant, we might not be celebrating today. Later

Other. This position is for a business man. Mine would be finding out what my base line budget is, and how much over that the owner will let me go. Then, I could prioritize (or triage) the other moves. Later

Bobby Valentine is now available. Experienced "baseball man". Not afraid of the NY press. Loves the team. If he can run a large city (he thought he can) a daunting task doesn't scare him. Might be fun. Later

Is John Smoltz really Kevin Bacon? Since 1982, there have been 38 World Series played (no Series was played in 1994 because of the strike). That's 38 seasons -- nearly four decades of Fall Classic baseball -- with the current Fall Classic being the 39th. And for each one of those late October or sometimes early November games, there has amazingly been at least one participant who played previously with John Smoltz ... or would end up playing in the future with Smoltz. https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/john-smoltz-world-series-teammate-streak.html?fbclid=IwAR0BKtSarXnr6KI8MsKzAKo5T-5jmoFViuYyEXKGaLNS2uYi0cDPFyIekQIhttps://www.mlb.com/amp/news/john-smoltz-world-series-teammate-streak.html?fbclid=IwAR0BKtSarXnr6KI8MsKzAKo5T-5jmoFViuYyEXKGaLNS2uYi0cDPFyIekQI Later

Maybe seven or so. As much as I don't like Buck, I'm liking Smoltz the more I listen. He's letting us into the pitcher's (and catcher's) head when describing how each batter should be pitched. Sometimes it becomes information overload (like McCarver used to do) but very interesting. Later

That was as badly played as Trot Nixon's misplay of Derek Jeter's pop fly "double" (how can a fly ball get over your head in RF at YS III?) that turned a Red Sox victory into a loss in 2003. Later

Not a fan of either team (REALLY?), so the tie breakers for me are: Baseball-wise: The Braves are a National League team. Life-wise: Georgia elected two Democratic Senators and their head of elections basically told Donald Trump to fuck off when he called to have the presidential election results de-certified. So, (holding my nose) go Braves. Later
