  2. I won't be able to make the ceremony. Please donate mine to the Schaefer Awards museum in Stockholm. Later
  3. The Blue Jays are never as good as people think they are. The pessimist in me says they won't beat the MFYs. The optimist in me hopes none of them will transmit Cholera to the Mets while they're in New York. Later
  4. For a chance to play in the majors, some minor leaguers would tell you they can run it in 6. Later
  5. The Syracuse Mets are at Charlotte today. The Charlotte airport is one of the busiest airports in the country, is the hub of at least one major airline and has 115 gates (the most in the country). You'd think he could find a seat on a flight that gets him to Atlanta (another major hub) by some time in tonight's game. There must be a gazillion flights between the two airports daily. Hustle, kid. Later
  6. Nogosek has had great minor league stats. He has to show that he's not just a AAAA pitcher. Later
  7. When they needed to add someone who can play the infield (before they added Marrero) I though they might sign Didi Gregorius, who was released Aug 4th, still hasn't signed with another club, and is only just 32 yrs. old. But then I noticed he is only a shortstop and the team needed someone to play second and third, too. Later
  8. =Gwreck post_id=102272 time=1659640072 user_id=56] There's a strong argument that as of today, the Mets have the best, healthiest, and most complete roster they've had all year.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Even with the Mets doing little offensively thru those first two innings, it still took Strider right about three innings worth of pitches to get there. Yeah, but he'd stay in there for 25 innings, just to back up the snide comments (about the Mets were lucky and getting all the calls)he made after the last series and the stuff he took for saying them. 10. =G-Fafif post_id=103994 time=1660596833 user_id=55] Guillorme moderate groin strain, 4-6 weeks.
  11. Just trying to be polite. Didn't want to step on your toes. Later
  12. The Rangers fired manager Chris Woodward. (I didn't know if it was proper for anyone else other than FK to start a new TWiB thread) Later
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Also, I tend not to think of pitchers declining the way other athletes do. Their skills don't fade as much with age, so much as with mileage. WRT mileage, didn't we have a discussion a few years ago about Jake starting pitching later in his career, so he hadn't pitched as many innings as many pitchers of a comparable age? Some CPF-ers mentioned that this might prolong his effectiveness. Later
  14. The kid is easing back into the rotation. He started today, and his line was: 2IP, 0 H,0 R, 1 B, 3K (he hit one batter) His string is still intact of never giving up more than two hits in any start. Later
  15. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=103872 time=1660496693 user_id=68] Yeah, I thought of Tommy John right after I posted. He may have been even better after returning. But he definitely wasnt throwing 102MPH heaters or 96MPH wipeout sliders that look just like fastballs coming out, especially if the batter has difficulty picking up the spin. And deGrom might be even better, too. Granted it's only been 16 IP's so far.
  16. For starters, I never ever heard of a pitcher deGrom's age missing a whole calendar year of baseball due to injury and not coming back diminished. FYI- Not sure about their ages, but here's a list. https://www.mlb.com/news/top-10-tommy-john-surgery-success-stories-c295719048https://www.mlb.com/news/top-10-tommy-john-surgery-success-stories-c295719048 OE: Jake was 31/32 Smoltz was 32 and Wainwright was 29. Wells had it before he reached the majors (23) and pitched another 21 years. Later
  17. Frayed Knot wrote: Cano, Tatis, Bonds, Boone (Bret at least): steroid using second (and third) generation players. Forgot that Robinson Cano's dad was (briefly) a major league pitcher. Dale Berra was caught using drugs, but that was for cocaine. Later
  18. You're not missing anything good. Later
  19. I'm glad he's getting help and hope this isn't another Tony Horton situation. Later
  20. =G-Fafif post_id=103533 time=1660334671 user_id=55] Thor will get a pregame tribute video.
  21. =kcmets post_id=103419 time=1660239903 user_id=53] 17 would be so much fun! We're gonna need plastic surgery to remove our goddamn smiles! We'll be whistling 'Zip-A-Dee Doo-Dah' out of our assholes!
  22. Just saw the replay of Vogelbach's double as he just beat the throw into second. I'm wondering who ran faster, Vogelbach yesterday or Bartolo Colon on his famous home run? Later
  23. Premature exultation? Later
  24. The squirrel can break some nuts here. Later
