  1. The flip side, it will be nice having Reyes do well against the MFYs for 18 games a year.
  2. I'd laugh if it wasn't so pathetic...ah what the hell, I'll laugh anyway! [youtube:3262hxi6]lb8fWUUXeKM[/youtube:3262hxi6]
  3. Anticipating R.A. Dickey's placement in the 2012 NL Cy Young voting, A look at Mets Cy Young Voting History.

  5. Apropos of it, I posted a column on the various Met related eateries that I could gather info on through the years.
  6. Working on an article on Mets & Cy Young voting. Kind of curious if anyone recalls or knows how Fergie Jenkins overwhelmingly won over Seaver despite Tom have better overal numbers? Even a better win percentage! Were the 4 extra wins THAT much bigger of a deal back then?

If only to hear local radio's THE BATTLE WITH BEANTOWN and ESPN/FOX slobber over themselves covering a weekend series between two teams battling it out for third in the AL East!

  13. Swan Swan H wrote: What FK said, which is what I said two pages ago. I don't consider it cheating at all, and if I implied that it's only due to my limited ability to express myself. Teams would be doing themselves a disservice not to tweak their rosters based on the rules as they stand. I just think the rules make no sense. So Shane Halter as the last guy off the bench drives in the winning run with a pinch hit, seeing eye double in the top of the 15th inning, and Dan Murray as the last guy in the pen, save for Rick Reed and Orel Hershiser, shuts down the Reds in the bottom of the 15th to nail down the game, you say they should be on the 25 man roster for the 1999 NLDS?
  14. At the same time though, teams that played in Game 163s had the same roster that they had for Game 162. Which meant, for example, instead of Al Leiter and Edgardo Alfonzo being the heroes of the 1999 Play-In Game, it could have been Shane Halter or Dan Murray as the heroes and neither one of them would even be considered to be on the NLDS/NLCS/WS roster that year.
  15. Swan Swan H wrote: I see your point, and I don't disagree that it may have been intentional rather than a loophole, but I don't like the idea. I'll buy it if the guys taken off can't come back in future rounds. FWIW, that's exactly what the Cardinals did with Carpenter, Wainright and Garcia, in favor of another infielder, a 3rd catcher and an extra arm in the pen. All three obviously not on the NLDS roster in favor of the starting rotation guys. I think teams have been able to tinker in between rounds since the start of the Division Series as I've seen statistical tables for a team's postseason go 27-28 deep and some of them I have no recollection of injuries causing a replacement to happen.
  16. MFS62 wrote: Those bastards! Casually listening to the news on WCBS radio this week. An ad came on for a Yankee breakfast. I heard yadda, yadda, yadda, Yankee Legend Doc Gooden!!! Blasphemy. Talk about truth in advertising. I'm writing to the FCC. What hubris. Later I'll do you one better. It was for a Sprint PCS store appearance so they couldn't use the term MFY (of course with MF not included), but there was a local radio ad touting an appearance by...it was either New York Baseball legend or New York Baseball fan favorite Jeff Weaver. I least I think it was Weaver, it was one of those big ticket items that the MFers brought in that severely underperformed in the 2002-2005 time frame. It wasn't a future HOFer/borderline HOFer like Brown or Johnson though, either way clear case of hubris and usual advertising hyperbole!

  21. Nope to Mike Hampton! Leiter's 1998 was the last time a Met would garner a CY vote until this guy, well after the Valentine era was over. And the only other guy is a well regarded 2nd-3rd starter Met whom probably got swept up in a very Metly voting year.
  22. We get a few more 7th in the 1994 voting. 6th in 1998 (this is his 1999 card due to no Al Leiter as a Met card in the 1998 Topps base) 3rd in 2008 3rd in 1990 4th in 1986, the Mets had 4 pitchers receive votes that year! 3rd in 1994. And we have all of the Mets top three finishes 7th, tied with Doc, in the 1986 vote 5th in that 1986 vote
  23. Swan Swan H wrote: How deep does the list go per season? Top 10 votegetters? Depends on the year, usually just 4-8 deep. Hardly ever double digits like it is with the MVP voting.
  24. We got Cone, Orosco and Koosman Runner up to Randy Jones in 1976 3rd place in 1983 3rd place in 1988
